Deans of Studies – Judy Fieldhouse and Theresa Schuhmann
This time in March each year is always one that we find exciting and energizing while working with our students. As we continued educating students about the registration process for the 2024-2025 school year this week, we have been in class meetings to share the logistics of the registration process, but more importantly, to provide opportunities for students to learn about the wide variety of course options from which they can choose. Helping students chart their pathways as they work to make their academic dreams a reality is our favorite part of our jobs. Your daughter’s class counselor is a knowledgeable resource and invaluable part of this process as well.
Linked here are the instructions that your daughter received in class meeting on Thursday or Friday to complete the registration process. We hope you will take time to review the COURSE CATALOG
and this process and sit with her as she chooses her courses for next year. Along with the opportunity to talk to her counselor or dean of studies, your daughter’s current teachers will conference with her in classes on March 11 and 12. We are excited about looking to the future with your daughter!

Faculty & Staff Service
As a part of Mission Week, some members of our faculty had the opportunity to experience their own service activities at various agencies in our community on Wednesday and Thursday. The agencies that included our faculty ands staff included Parklands/Beckley Creek, Supplies Over Seas, Grade School Science Projects, Dreams with Wings, Blackacre, Hildegard House, Norton Cancer Institute, WaterWatch, Feed Louisville, Jeffersontown Area Ministries, Just Creations, Catholic Charities, Franciscan Soup Kitchen, 4th Avenue Methodist Church. We are so grateful to all of our faculty and staff who live out our mission everyday.

RTI TIME DURING LEAD & LEARN NEXT WEEK: Next week on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12 during LEAD & Learn Time, we are offering Rockets Taking Initiative (RTI) time again. During this time, students will have the opportunity to work with teachers on course skills, to get organized, or participate in extension opportunities. Students may be specifically referred by a teacher during this time. If your daughter has been referred for assistance, she has received an email with information, and you will receive an email this afternoon as well.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, March 12 from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Next week, we will be praying for the Limerick Family juniors and seniors. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities.
PRAYER INTENTIONS: The Community of Assumption knows the power of prayer! All AHS parents and alumnae are invited to submit prayer intentions online. These intentions are then lifted in prayer all together during Five-Minute Prayer in the chapel on Wednesdays and weekly on the PA during morning prayer. If you would like to submit an intention, you can do so here. They will remain there for about two weeks, but feel free to post the same intention again later if needed. Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

Next week during LEAD & Learn time, we will celebrate birthdays and milestones/achievements in homeroom with our Family Celebration. During the Family Celebration days, students are invited to wear their family t-shirt with their uniform skirt or pants to honor their family colors and allegiance. Our sophomores will also celebrate the conclusion of their ACTS experience with a short prayer service during LEAD & Learn time on Friday. We look forward to hearing about their experiences and honoring the service they did in our community this semester.

WORK IT WEDNESDAY – MARCH SCHEDULE: The Achievement Center will be hosting two more Work It Wednesdays for the month of March. Mark your calendars now for March 13 and 27. Students are invited to come to the Media Center from 7:45 to 9:00 a.m. to receive extra support in their classes from peer tutors, study groups, or the AC teachers. We ask students to please RSVP in advance.
FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIP LETTER: Financial Aid and scholarship letters were mailed to families on March 1 through USPS. If you applied for financial aid or a scholarship, you hopefully have received your notification letter by now. If your daughter received a scholarship, the scholarship award was also included in the financial aid letter. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and if you daughter did not receive a scholarship for the coming year, she has an opportunity to apply again for the 2025-2026 school year. With over 1,000 applications for scholarships, it is always a difficult decision when it comes to making awards. If you do have any questions regarding financial aid awards, or would like to file an appeal for an additional award, please contact our Executive Director of Finance, Sarah Branham, at sarah.branham@ahsrockets.org or 271-2520.
MID-SEMESTER CONFERENCE COMMUNICATION: This semester, teachers will be sending an email to the parents of any student whose grade in their class is a D or F as of TODAY, Friday, March 8. We ask all parents who receive an email to respond in a timely fashion. Parents may request a conference virtually through Teams during the conference window of Tuesday, March 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A link will be provided in the teacher’s email. Of course, any parent may request a conference call via phone or team or in-person meeting with a teacher at any time during the school year to discuss a student’s progress in a course. We appreciate your shared commitment to our partnership to best help our students achieve academic success.
LEAD & LEARN WEDNESDAY ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20: We are looking forward to our third LEAD & Learn Wednesday of the year, which will take place on Wednesday, March 20. Students invited specifically to attend an academic help session will be notified by their teachers by Friday, March 15, via email, and a parent/guardian will also receive an email. Please remember, we strongly recommend that students attend if an invitation is extended. Students will receive information in homeroom about educational extension opportunities offered by faculty and staff and will be asked to develop their plans for their purposeful use of March 20 to specifically work to achieve their academic and co-curricular goals for this semester. Please be sure to talk with your daughter about her plans for this day as her plan must be submitted for her attendance on March 20 via an attendance online survey. Students may arrive for their scheduled meetings, if applicable, after 12:00 p.m. Supervised study in the cafeteria is available between 12:00-4:30 p.m. Please consult this message sent out prior to our first LEAD & Learn Wednesday on September 28 to review general details of these days: SPECIAL MESSAGE TO PARENTS – LEAD & LEARN WEDNESDAYS.
NOTICE OF UPDATE TO STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK: Assumption updated our Parent/Student handbook recently to clarify release of student records, specifically disciplinary records, and to resolve conflicting language found in the handbook. The updated language is as follows and can be found on page 77: Disciplinary Records – disciplinary records are considered internal records and do not become a part of a student’s permanent record or transcript. Disciplinary records will be disclosed only by way of a signed release form which will be provided by AHS to the student’s parents for their signature (or to the alumna if she is a graduate). The entire Parent-Student Handbook can be found here: 2023-2024-Student-Parent-Handbook-.pdf
ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that Assumption does not grant excused absences for college days on days immediately before or after Spring Break. We also cannot excuse students from school for family trips and/or vacations. If you are planning to take your daughter out of school for the whole day or before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, whether to incorporate a college visit or to get a jump start on Spring Break travel, please bear in mind that the absence will be unexcused and she will not be able to receive full credit for anything collected for a grade (including tests) in her classes while she is gone; makeup work that is completed and turned in will receive 50% of the grade earned. If your daughter becomes ill and is unable to attend school on Thursday, March 28, or Monday, April 8, she will need to provide a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Dean of Students Kamaria Wesley. Full details about our attendance and absence policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.

LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2024. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. We ask that students submit all of this information by Monday, March 25, 2024.

Ms. Wesley recommends that students ask parents for advice in following the dress code guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with other specific information about senior prom in class meetings and with reminder emails and announcements.

Encourage her to bookmark this link for ACT practice, information about making an account to see her scores, and to access TAKING THE ACT: A STUDENT GUIDE. This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE if you have any questions.
JUNIOR PROM: The junior prom will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the Assumption gym. The junior class moderators and class officers have been hard at work in the process of planning the details for the big semiformal event, and many juniors have already started shopping for the dance. With this in mind, our dean of students, Kamaria Wesley, will visit junior class meetings to review information about our dress code for dances with the students and answer any general questions they might have; she will email information about the dress code for the dance to all the juniors. Please take a few minutes to look it over and then to discuss with your daughter so you can help her know what is expected as she is deciding what to wear to the event—as you will see in the information, Ms. Wesley recommends that they ask parents for advice in following the guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. The second covers the logistical details of the process including due dates and deadlines. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint that was used as part of this presentation is linked here.
