What amazing school spirit at the Pink & White Game last night! We are so proud of our senior team and the entire student body for their positivity, understanding of community, and focus on the true meaning of the game. As some of you may not know, the game originated at Assumption High School’s annual Senior Dream Assembly for juniors. In 2007, one junior came up with the idea of a flag football game with rival Sacred Heart as a fundraiser for breast cancer. A few hundred parents and students were expected at the first game held at Saint Xavier High School. However, due to the Assumption seniors’ school spirit and social media campaign on a new platform called Facebook, more than 3,000 attended! Nearly $12,000 was collected, and a community tradition was born. Fifteen years later, what started with a few students has grown into a full-fledged main event with over five thousand attendees sporting pink or white to support Louisville area breast cancer patients. The proceeds from the game sales are donated to the Norton Cancer Institute, which provides a personal oncology-certified nurse specializing in breast health to help ease stress and increase emotional support for patients and family members throughout treatment. Since its inception, the Pink and White Game has raised over $270,000 for this program, living up to the game’s motto: “Four Schools, Two Rivalries, One Cause: Everyone Wins!” The spirit of the game is a testament to how young people, educated in a tradition of service, faith, and excellence at each of the schools, can truly make a difference in this world! We are so happy this tradition continues and are proud to be a part of it!

Today, the class of 2022 participated in Senior Celebration Day, which has been a tradition at Assumption for twenty years. The senior class spent the day participating in a mind, body, and spirit day of activities, which culminated with a class picture and lunch in the senior courtyard. As we prepare to celebrate our seniors during the month of May, we were excited to give them their Graduation Yard Signs to recognize this amazing milestone.

PARENT PRAYER Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

This week during Tuesday’s LEAD & Learn Time, all students were in homeroom for Family Celebration day when homeroom leaders lead students in activities to celebrate those with spring birthdays and provided an opportunity for engagement with each other. On Monday and Friday, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors focused on leadership as they heard speeches from those candidates running to serve as class president, Family Council president, class officers, and Family Councilmembers for the 2022-2023 school year. On Thursday, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors discussed the Assumption Way when it comes to school spirit as we prepared to show our spirit at the Pink and White Game on Thursday night. Seniors also reflected upon leadership on Monday as they wrote letters of encouragement and support that the juniors will receive at their ring ceremony on Sunday, May 15, a symbolic passing of the leadership of the school from the Class of 2022 to the Class of 2023. On Thursday, they were in class meeting to receive information in preparation for senior prom.
Next week during Monday’s LEAD & Learn Time, all students will be in homeroom for a Family Council-led engagement activity. On Tuesday and Thursday, all classes will rotate between homeroom and class meeting. When in homeroom, students will review a student produced video discouraging vaping. In class meeting, each class will hear from speakers regarding timely topics for their classes.

END-OF-THE-YEAR TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS: One of our technology integration specialists will be sharing the following information with our students in one of their May class meetings.
- All students must turn in their Tablet PCs to the Boeckmann Lab by their last day of classes. Seniors must turn in their Tablet PCs on or before May 13, depending on their last exam. All other students need to turn them in on or before May 27.
- Graduating seniors may purchase their Tablet PCs for $5.00. However, they must turn them in and tell us then if they want to purchase them so we can remove the school software if they do. The graduates may pick up their purchased Tablet PCs starting the week of June 13. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.
- If a senior wants to purchase her Tablet PC, the $5.00 fee, (cash or check, no credit cards) will be collected when she comes to pick it up. The Tablet PCs not purchased by the seniors will be placed in our school loaner pool or will be used for parts to fix other computers. A big thank you to all graduates who decide to give their Tablet PC back to the school.
- The PC warranty and accidental damage protection ends the day before graduation.
- Rising seniors may pick up their Tablet PCs starting the week of July 18 and rising sophomores and juniors starting the week of July 25. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. Tablet PCs can only be given to students who come with their school-issued case to pick up. This is a requirement for our accidental damage insurance.
- Be sure to report accidents and get computers fixed in the Boeckmann Lab within 30 days of the damage. Students who are experiencing any hardware issues (physical damage such as cracked screens, damaged plastics, etc.) with their Tablet PCs must bring their tablets to the Boeckmann Lab within 30 days of the accidental damage.
STUDENTS PARKING AT GARDINER LANE SHOPPING CENTER: Earlier this week, we received word from the manager of the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center that Assumption students are parking there during the school day, making it difficult for the customers of several of the businesses to find parking spaces and/or park close to the businesses they are patronizing. As indicated in our student/parent handbook, our students are not allowed to park in parking spaces intended for patrons of local businesses or on private property without permission of the property owner, and the parking lot at Gardiner Lane Shopping Center fits into both of these categories. Violators of this policy will be issued demerits and, even worse, are subject to having their vehicles towed. We have advised the shopping center’s property management company to start towing the cars of AHS students who are parked there illegally. If your daughter is driving to school, please make sure she has a legal place to park when doing so—we still have student parking available, and students can get a parking pass by contacting Mrs. Schelb in the main office and paying the $25 parking fee.
PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR: Our current sophomores and juniors have already been given information about applying for parking spaces for next year. Students need to have their driver’s license (not just a permit) by August 10 to apply for a parking space before school starts and begin driving to school on the first day of the new school year; those who won’t have licenses by August 10 but will have them by Labor Day may apply for a space now, but it won’t be assigned until after school starts and they get their licenses. Because we believe that if the girls are mature and responsible enough to drive to school, they should be mature and responsible enough to listen to announcements, read email, submit their own parking requests online, and work with school personnel to resolve any difficulties they have related to applying for parking, we will work only with students (not parents) on parking issues, and we will not be sending detailed information about applying for parking to parents. That said, to help parents of rising juniors and seniors encourage their daughters in taking care of parking business themselves, here are some key dates the girls will need to keep in mind:
- Thursday, July 28, 3:00 p.m.: deadline for submitting a parking request for space assignment before school starts
- Thursday, July 28, 3:00 p.m.: deadline for having passengers set up in CarpoolToSchool.com (the number of other AHS students in the carpool on this date will determine the priority for assigning parking).
If your daughter wants to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It builds community, is good for the environment, and helps Assumption be a good neighbor by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road in the morning and afternoons. As has been the case for at least 10 years, priority in assigning parking will be given to students with carpools and will not be based on seniority.
CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: Assumption is pleased to announce that we will again partner with CarpoolToSchool.com for the 2022-2023 school year. This online service creates an Assumption-only network that allows parents and students to set up carpools to and/or from school that others can then request to join or request to join a carpool to/from school that has already been set up by an AHS junior or senior who drives to school or another AHS parent. As noted in the information about student parking above, this is one of the many ways that we build community, respect the environment, and try to be good neighbors by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should be receiving an email from CarpoolToSchool.com on Monday, May 9, inviting them to participate. Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are interested in using this service may log on to CarpoolToSchool.com and access their already existing accounts; just “request a new password” if you don’t remember what you set up previously. Parents who have general questions about CarpoolToSchool may contact Amy Schelb in the main office; those needing technical help with the CarpoolToSchool website are encouraged to use the LiveChat feature on the CTS website (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.) or contact Aaron Riley in the AHS Boeckmann Lab for assistance.
ACT TEST PREP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep, an innovative test training program that cracks the code on improving ACT scores. TorchPrep has continually yielded outstanding ACT scores for our students. Last year, Assumption students who participated in TorchPrep saw an average score increase of 2.2 points. All courses include 30 hours of direct training, four full-length simulated tests, TorchPrep training manual, customized study plan, and guaranteed results. The training program will take place at Assumption June 6 – 11 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Early registration deadline is May 30. More information about programs, registration, and fees can be found at www.torchprep.com.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer have been updated. You can find these on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Additionally, pictures, videos, programs, etc., from each celebratory senior event will be posted on this page following each event!
CLASS OF 2022 YARD SIGNS: Seniors received their Class of 2022 Yard Sign today at the end of Senior Celebration. We have asked the seniors to take a picture with their yard sign and send it to MAGGIE ISING.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT GRADUATION TICKETS: If your family will not be using all eight (8) of the allotted graduation tickets that were handed out to your senior two weeks ago, please have her bring them to the main office so they can be distributed to another senior who is in need of extra tickets. Thank you!

JUNIOR ACTS SERVICE HOURS: Sophomores (rising juniors) are encouraged to start their 15 hours of junior ACTS service the summer before their junior year. Please see the Junior ACTS Syllabus linked here for more information: JUNIOR ACTS SYLLABUS.
