Dean of Studies and Student Activities, Theresa Schuhmann
On Thursday, our students, faculty and staff gathered so that our nine families could compete in a fun-filled Family Council-sponsored Olympics event. Our Family Council student leaders did an excellent job organizing and facilitating the many games and competitions between our families. The Family Olympics were not just a culminating activity for our annual Family Competition but also gave students the opportunity to spend time, connect and engage with members from each grade in their family. The spirit on display was exciting to experience. Please take a moment to ask your daughter about the day and what she may have learned from the new family members that she met. It was truly a wonderful community-building event. Congratulations to the following families who were recognized for their top performance in the spirit competition: in third place, Family Kingstown, in second place, Family Carlow, and in first place, Family Cork. The final results for overall competition will be announced next week and the overall family winner for the year will be announced later this month.

At today’s spring sports pep rally, each of the four classes had the opportunity to demonstrate their class spirit through their bleacher dance performances. The bleacher dance contest is a favorite Assumption tradition which began ten years ago. Classes work together to create a music selection and choreograph a dance to showcase their class personality and pride. Last year, classes carried on this tradition with field dances during our LEAD & Learn Wednesdays but we were thrilled to be back in the bleachers as a community to experiences these dances this year! Congratulations to the Class of 2022 for their winning performance!

To keep our families informed of the impact of COVID on our school, we continue reporting our positive COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.
- This week, (reporting from Friday 4/15 to Thursday 4/21; AHS had 1 new positive COVID case – which was a faculty/staff member.
- Since the start of this semester, AHS has had 211 positive COVID cases. 185 were students and 26 were faculty/staff.
Mask Mandate: Based on our current Covid numbers and declining cases in the greater community, AHS will remain mask optional until further notice including on buses and vans.

SENIOR CELEBRATION DAY: On Friday, April 29, the class of 2022 will participate in Senior Celebration Day. Seniors will report to school by 8:15 a.m. as usual but may wear shorts and Senior Celebration Day team t-shirts. The senior class will spend the day participating in a mind, body, and spirit field day, which will culminate with a class picture and class cookout in the courtyard. Seniors will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.
PINK AND WHITE GAME: The fifteenth annual Pink and White Game will be held at Saint Xavier High School on Thursday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Students may purchase tickets during lunches in the cafeteria the week of April 25; tickets are $10.00. Assumption, Sacred Heart, St. X, and Trinity each receive a ticket allotment to sell to their communities. We are encouraging students to arrange with their family and friends at St. X, Trinity, and Sacred Heart to buy their tickets at their own schools. In order to ensure that all students have the opportunity to buy a ticket from Assumption’s allotted tickets, on Monday, April 25, each student may buy only one ticket for herself. For the remainder of the weeks, students may buy a maximum of two tickets per day. Tickets will be sold to students only. There will be no outside sales. Please note: All schools have agreed that there will be no tailgating at this event, and we highly encourage carpooling to the game!

PARENT PRAYER THIS WEEK – THURSDAY – PINK & WHITE EDITION: Each year before the Pink & White Game, the parents of Catholic high school students come together for a joint prayer service. Please join us for this year’s Parent Prayer on Thursday, April 28, at 8:30 a.m. in the AHS chapel. And those who usually come to our own AHS Parent Prayer on Tuesdays, please be aware that we will NOT meet on April 26 since the special service is on April 28.

This week during Tuesday’s LEAD & Learn Time, all students received information to prepare them to engage in the return of our first Family Olympics since 2019. On Thursday, April 21, all families competed in this Family Council-sponsored Olympics event from 12:50-3:00 p.m. On Friday, we celebrated together again as a community, coming together for our spring sports pep rally.
Next week during Tuesday’s LEAD & Learn Time, all students will be in homeroom for Family Celebration day when homeroom leaders will lead students in activities to celebrate those with spring birthdays and provide an opportunity for engagement with each other. On Monday, Thursday, and Friday, freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be focused on leadership as they hear speeches from those candidates to serve as class president, Family Council president, class officers, and Family Councilmembers for the 2022-2023 school year. Seniors will also be thinking about leadership on Monday as they write letters of encouragement and support that the juniors will receive at their ring ceremony on Sunday, May 15, a symbolic passing of the leadership of the school from the Class of 2022 to the Class of 2023. On Thursday, they will be in class meeting to receive information in preparation for senior prom.

AP EXAMS: AP Exams will be held the first two weeks of May. Important information about the testing days and testing site as well as how to help your daughter be prepared can be found through these links: AP EXAM SCHEDULE and AP EXAM GENERAL INFORMATION.
STUDENTS PARKING AT GARDINER LANE SHOPPING CENTER: Earlier this week, we received word from the manager of the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center that Assumption students are parking there during the school day, making it difficult for the customers of several of the businesses to find parking spaces and/or park close to the businesses they are patronizing. As indicated in our student/parent handbook, our students are not allowed to park in parking spaces intended for patrons of local businesses or on private property without permission of the property owner, and the parking lot at Gardiner Lane Shopping Center fits into both of these categories. Violators of this policy will be issued demerits and, even worse, are subject to having their vehicles towed. We have advised the shopping center’s property management company to start towing the cars of AHS students who are parked there illegally on Monday. If your daughter is driving to school, please make sure she has a legal place to park when doing so—we still have student parking available, and students can get a parking pass by contacting Mrs. Schelb in the main office and paying the $25 parking fee.
PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR: Our current sophomores and juniors have already been given information about applying for parking spaces for next year. Students need to have their driver’s license (not just a permit) by August 10 to apply for a parking space before school starts and begin driving to school on the first day of the new school year; those who won’t have licenses by August 10 but will have them by Labor Day may apply for a space now, but it won’t be assigned until after school starts and they get their licenses. Because we believe that if the girls are mature and responsible enough to drive to school, they should be mature and responsible enough to listen to announcements, read email, submit their own parking requests online, and work with school personnel to resolve any difficulties they have related to applying for parking, we will work only with students (not parents) on parking issues, and we will not be sending detailed information about applying for parking to parents. That said, to help parents of rising juniors and seniors encourage their daughters in taking care of parking business themselves, here are some key dates the girls will need to keep in mind:
- Thursday, July 28, 3:00 p.m.: deadline for submitting a parking request for space assignment before school starts
- Thursday, July 28, 3:00 p.m.: deadline for having passengers set up in CarpoolToSchool.com (the number of other AHS students in the carpool on this date will determine the priority for assigning parking).
If your daughter wants to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It builds community, is good for the environment, and helps Assumption be a good neighbor by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road in the morning and afternoons. As has been the case for at least 10 years, priority in assigning parking will be given to students with carpools and will not be based on seniority.
CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: Assumption is pleased to announce that we will again partner with CarpoolToSchool.com for the 2022-2023 school year. This online service creates an Assumption-only network that allows parents and students to set up carpools to and/or from school that others can then request to join or request to join a carpool to/from school that has already been set up by an AHS junior or senior who drives to school or another AHS parent. As noted in the information about student parking above, this is one of the many ways that we build community, respect the environment, and try to be good neighbors by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should be receiving an email from CarpoolToSchool.com on Monday, May 9, inviting them to participate. Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are interested in using this service may log on to CarpoolToSchool.com and access their already existing accounts; just “request a new password” if you don’t remember what you set up previously. Parents who have general questions about CarpoolToSchool may contact Amy Schelb in the main office; those needing technical help with the CarpoolToSchool website are encouraged to use the LiveChat feature on the CTS website (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.) or contact Aaron Raley in the AHS Boeckmann Lab for assistance.
ACT TEST PREP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep, an innovative test training program that cracks the code on improving ACT scores. TorchPrep has continually yielded outstanding ACT scores for our students. Last year, Assumption students who participated in TorchPrep saw an average score increase of 2.2 points. All courses include 30 hours of direct training, four full-length simulated tests, TorchPrep training manual, customized study plan, and guaranteed results. The training program will take place at Assumption June 6 – 11 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Early registration deadline is May 30. More information about programs, registration, and fees can be found at www.torchprep.com.
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING MUSICAL: The beloved musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s literary masterpiece, Les Misérables, is coming to Assumption April 22, 23, 27, and 30 at 7 p.m. and April 24 and May 1 at 2 p.m. Set in 19th century France after the first French Revolution, Les Misérables weaves together the stories of downtrodden men and women who cling to their dreams in the face of injustice and social upheaval: a former convict chooses redemption, a mother ensures her daughter’s survival, and a group of students rally for the world they long to see. These timeless characters offer Hugo’s vision about grace and justice, poverty and revolution, love and hope, assuring audiences that even in a weary world, “tomorrow comes.” Tickets are available at www.showtix.com. You can use this link or go to Showtix and search for Assumption. If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact Colleen Murphy at colleen.murphy@ahsrockets.org.
ASSUMPTION ROCKET MEN (ARM) NEWS – CORNHOLE TOURNEY POSTPONED: Thank you for signing up for Assumption Rocket Men (ARM) Father-Daughter Cornhole Tournament that was scheduled to take place this Sunday, April 24. Based on the feedback and limited availability to participate due to the large list of scheduled activities taking place, not only this weekend, but for the months of April and May, we have decided to postpone this event until the fall of 2022. More information and a rescheduled date will be announced later this summer. If you have any questions, please contact Tricia Ferree tricia.ferree@ahsrockets.org or Chad Dierken at 502.939.3175.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer have been updated. You can find these on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.
AHS SUMMER CAMPS: We are excited to announce that our 2022 summer camp schedule is now open! This year, Assumption is offering over 40 fun-filled enrichment and athletic sessions (including 10 co-ed opportunities) to all K-9 students. Our goal is for each camper to have an exciting, safe summer and build new friendships. Registration is linked here. Please share with family and friends. Contact LAUREN LEGA with any questions.
AFTERNOON CROSSING GUARD UPDATE: Good news! A crossing guard has been secured by Louisville LMPD for the remainder of the year for AHS and St. Raphael in the afternoon at Bardstown Road and Lancashire!

DUE TODAY! FINAL DEADLINE FOR LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! In order to have the most accurate information for our senior class, we ask them to submit a copy of their college acceptance letters, honors program acceptance letters, and scholarship offers. Your daughters have heard this reminder at class meetings and received the reminder via email numerous times. We wanted to make sure that you were aware of the expectation that seniors submit a copy of all college admission acceptance letters, admission into honors colleges and special programs, as well as scholarship offers to the Guidance Office. This submission can be in paper form, or students may also forward their letters to college.letters@ahsrockets.org Although the deadline has passed, we will still accept the paper copies until TODAY, FRIDAY, APRIL 22. After that time, our materials used at the Senior Honors Ceremony will be prepared for printing and we will not be able to make any further changes.
SENIOR PARENT LETTER: An email was sent out on Wednesday, April 13, to parents of seniors giving details about senior activities and graduation events that will be occurring in April and May, including a link to the Class of 2022 senior events website page. If you are a senior parent and did not receive this email, please click on this website link to view this important information: CLASS OF 2022 SENIOR EVENTS WEBPAGE
