Director of Mission Effectiveness – Mary Ann Steutermann
Countless hours of preparation have gone into planning a purposeful and meaningful Mission Week for your daughters. This year’s 16th annual Mission Week is designed to be a special experience of growth and transformation. Through a wide array of learning experiences, students are called to reflect upon their own dignity and worth, that of others, and the potential they each have to make the world a better place. Our Mission Week theme is “Own Your Story.” We invite your participation by holding us all close in prayer as we work with students to own their stories – intellectually, physically, spiritually, and interpersonally. Please remember in prayer those traveling, those teaching, those serving, those learning, those reflecting, those planning and adapting plans. Our parent prayer group will not be meeting this week due to the changed schedule, but we invite you to take some time on Monday to offer this prayer for the week:
Be with us, Merciful God, as we seek to be
Your voice, Your hands, Your love
in the world this week.
Help us be open to growth and new opportunities. |
Give us the strength to always be people of Mercy.
Amen.

On Wednesday, our community came together to reflect upon how we can use this Lenten season as an opportunity to fast from the things in our lives that distract us so that we may feast on the blessings and holiness of God’s creation. As a part of the prayer service, the administration also blessed our senior ARISE teams as they prepare to serve communities in Cincinnati, Ohio; Auxier, KY; Washington, D.C.; and Louisville during Mission Week.

MISSION WEEK: Mission Week is Monday, February 27 – Thursday, March 3. We will begin school each morning one hour later at 9:15 a.m. and dismiss each day at 3:00 p.m. We believe that Mission Week activities are so important that we suspend classes for the week; all students are required to attend and participate in the activities scheduled, both on and off campus. All attendance policies apply during Mission Week–if your daughter is ill and unable to participate on a given day, please call the attendance office as usual. If at all possible, please do not schedule medical appointments for your daughter on days when she will be participating in activities off campus. There is no school on Friday, March 3.
BEFORE- AND AFTER-SCHOOL SUPERVISION: During Mission Week, before-school supervision will be provided in the cafeteria as usual beginning at 7:15 a.m. each day. After-school supervision will also be provided each day in the cafeteria until 4:30 p.m. as usual.
ARCHDIOCESAN PARENT PRESENTATION: The Archdiocese of Louisville invites all parents to a special presentation. Roy Petitfils, a Catholic author, speaker, and psychotherapist in private practice, will present “Post Pandemic Parenting: Raising Kids in a Disconnected, Avoidant, and Traumatized World” on Monday, February 27, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church. IMPORTANT UPCOMING STUDENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION: In March, we will be starting the registration process for the 2023-2024 school year. Below is important information:
- TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students will be receiving an email in April announcing tuition for the 2023-2024 school year. This year we will continue using Blackbaud Tuition Management (BBTM) for registration and tuition. BBTM will automatically re-enroll your account in March for the 2023-2024 school year. Once that process is complete, you will receive a verification email from BBTM with instructions on how to log in to your 2023-24 account or call them directly to make any changes (payment plan, banking information, etc.) Your registration fee will be included with your July payment. If your daughter will not be returning for the 2023-24 school year, please contact our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER. If you have any questions about your account, please contact TAMMY FINCH.
- CURRENT FRESHMAN PARENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION NIGHT – Save the date! Attention, all freshman parents–on Thursday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. please join Dean of Studies Theresa Schuhmann for an online meeting in which she will provide information about the registration and course selection process for all freshman parents. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this important informational session in order to assist your daughters in planning their course of study for their sophomore year. A link to the meeting will be available closer to the meeting date.

This is a great time to have a conversation with your daughter about her classes for next year. More detailed information will follow, but please make note that you will need to log into your parent PowerSchool account to register your daughter for classes next year. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, when you go to the login screen for PowerSchool, just click on the link “Having trouble signing in?” and follow the directions to obtain a forgotten username or forgotten password. ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that Assumption does not grant excused absences for college days on days immediately before or after Spring Break. We also cannot excuse students from school for family trips and/or vacations. If you are planning to take your daughter out of school for the whole day or before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, whether to incorporate a college visit into or to get a jump start on Spring Break travel, please bear in mind that the absence will be unexcused and she will not be able to receive full credit for anything collected for a grade (including tests) in her classes while she is gone; makeup work that is completed and turned in will receive 50% of the grade earned. If your daughter becomes ill and is unable to attend school on Thursday, March 30, or Tuesday, April 11, she will need to provide a doctor’s note or have authorization from our school nurse for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Dean of Students CINDI BAUGHMAN. Full details about our attendance and absence policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.
JUNIOR PROM: The Junior Prom will be held on Saturday, April 15, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the Assumption gym. The junior class moderators and class officers have been hard at work in the process of planning the details for the big semi-formal event, and many juniors have already started shopping for the dance. With this in mind, our dean of students, Cindi Baughman, visited junior class meetings twice this week to review information about our dress code for dances with the students and answer any general questions they might have; she also emailed information about the dress code for the dance to all the juniors. That information is linked here: DANCE DRESS CODE INFORMATION FOR JUNIOR PROM. Please take a few minutes to look it over and then to discuss with your daughter so you can help her know what is expected as she is deciding what to wear to the event—as you will see in the information, Mrs. Baughman recommends that they ask parents for advice in following the guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with information about the theme and ticket details in a class meeting and with reminder emails and announcements.

CATHOLIC CONFERENCE OF KENTUCKY AND SCHOOL CHOICE HOUSE BILLS: A message from the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Catholic Conference of Kentucky about School Choice: Over 30 members of the Kentucky House of Representatives have signed on as co-sponsors of the Students First Constitutional Amendment (House Bill 174). This is the most support any school choice measure has ever received in the Kentucky General Assembly. You can learn more about the proposal here. If passed, it would give voters the opportunity to make Kentucky an educational choice state with robust policies that ensure all students are supported. Please use this link to send an email encouraging your legislator to support House Bill 174. It takes only a few minutes of your time to help advance this important issue. You can also call and leave your representative a message at 1-800-372-7181.

MONDAY OF MISSION WEEK DETAILS: The week of February 27-March 2 will be our 16th annual award-winning Mission Week. Our theme this year is “Own Your Story.”
MONDAY PROGRAM: On Monday of Mission Week, all students who are not on mission trips experience the same opportunities, while the rest of the week, activities are based on their grade level. Monday will begin with a keynote address by Katie George. Katie is a 2012 graduate of AHS who earned a degree in Journalism and is currently a sports correspondent for ESPN. She was also named Miss Kentucky in 2015. Then later in the day, students will cycle through three rotations. One involves the BLOOM Theatre Project which features student-led dramatic elements related to our theme, “Own Your Story.” A second will involve an exciting new feature this year – Assumption’s own version of TED Talks. Several students have been working hard for many weeks to prepare to share their own stories. The third session will allow students to select two different 30-minute learning opportunities from a wide array of options in the areas of life skills, creative arts, movement, and personal development.
STUDENT DETAILS: We would like to share information given to students this week about Monday. Please remind your daughter of the following for Monday:
- Students may wear spirit wear as usual.
- Students do not need to bring their tablet PCs.
- Students will need to bring a bagged lunch, or they can purchase from a limited menu from FLIK in the cafeteria.
- Students will be instructed on Monday about attire, lunch, and other details for the remainder of the week for their particular class level.
- Students need to check their email daily during Mission Week for important information from their counselors.
