FEBRUARY 4, 2022

This past Saturday night, we hosted our 41st Annual Rocket Spectacular, one of the longest-running and most successful fundraising events in our community. We are excited to share that we smashed all previous records and raised an astounding $455,000 (net)! In just the past three years, we have raised over $1 million dollars through Rocket Spectacular to fund our financial aid program and support students in need.
We know that the cost of attending Assumption is a barrier for many families, and in line with our strategic vision for the future, AHS continues to increase the amount of assistance provided annually. This year alone, we awarded nearly $1.4 million dollars in assistance which translates to 225 students receiving a life-changing Assumption education through the generosity of our parents, donors, alums, and supporters. Whether you bought Rocket Raffle tickets, secured or donated an auction item, volunteered your time, or attended the event, you made a difference!
We also congratulate our Tuition Raffle Winner, Amanda Palazzo – parent of Evelyn Palazzo ’25, and our $20,000 Rocket Raffle Winner, Dr. John Buchino – grandfather of Carmen Johnson ’25.
Our heartfelt congratulations go out to each of you. Your support of Assumption’s mission is what makes the magic happen. Because of you, even more young women will have the opportunity to enjoy a superior Assumption education than ever before!

To keep our families informed of the impact of COVID on our school, we continue reporting our positive COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.
- This week, (reporting from Friday 1/28/22 up to Thursday 2/3/22); we had 15 positive COVID cases; 14 were students and 1 was faculty/staff.
- Since the start of this semester, we have had 196 positive COVID cases. Of these 181 cases; 174 were students and 22 were faculty/staff.
Please remember that per our AHS Healthy at School protocols, your daughter should stay home if she has a pending COVID test result. Also, while home tests can provide peace of mind, any positive COVID test administered at home should be followed up with a medically proctored rapid or PCR test to verify the results. Positive test results must be reported to our school nurse, Mrs. Laura Burnam, at either 502-271-2507 or laura.burnam@ahsrockets.org.
COVID TESTING CLINICS: Both PCR and rapid testing are offered at these clinics. Results will be emailed. Please use the link provided to schedule an appointment.
- Saturday, February 5: 12:00-3:00 p.m. at St. Michael Link: https://wildhealthtesting.com/stmichael
COVID VACCINE CLINICS:
- Friday, February 4: 3:00-6:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius

We hope you received the good news in your inbox on Thursday, but in case you missed it:
As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, Assumption High School has additional cause for celebration! It is with great pride that we announce to you that Assumption has received the distinct honor of being named a 2021 School of Distinction for excellence in education by Cognia, the global non-profit school improvement organization, who serves as our accrediting agency.
We marvel on a daily basis at the dedication to excellence that our faculty and staff demonstrate on behalf of our students. We are thrilled for them to see their remarkable work celebrated at an international level. It is particularly meaningful that this recognition comes at a time when they are working even harder as they seek to address students’ learning needs over the course of the pandemic.

SPIRIT WEEK: Next week, February 7-11, is Spirit Week. Our Varsity Club and Student Activities Office have planned several different activities to show support for our students and all that they do to make us proud. All dress-up days and penny war contributions are voluntary, but we highly encourage students to show their school and class spirit by getting creative and participating in some capacity. Penny War proceeds will go to fund Varsity Club endeavors and incentives, with any extra proceeds being donated to financial aid!
- Spirit Week Dress-Up Days: Students are invited to dress up according to a different theme each day next week. Students have been emailed the dress-up day descriptions and rules, so they may begin planning their costumes. Costumes are all or nothing (no “partial uniform/partial costume” dress); students may not wear costume masks or face paint; and current school policies regarding shoes and hair color still apply. The themes for the week are: Marvel Monday, Tourist Tuesday, WayBack Wednesday, Class Color Thursday, and Pajama Friday. Students will be eligible for prizes at lunch for participating in dress up days and for best costume!
- Class Penny War: A penny war between classes will be held every day during lunches with the results announced at the pep rally.
12:30 DISMISSAL DAY: Friday, February 11, will be a 12:30 dismissal day so that faculty and staff can attend a special professional development session on cultural sensitivity in the classroom as part of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative of our strategic plan. After-school supervision will not be provided, so please make arrangements for your daughters to be picked up by 12:45 p.m.
FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students— freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Tickets may be purchased in advance during lunches on from February 7 – February 11 for $20, or at the door the night of the dance for $25. The dance theme is “Dad, You’re Out of This World” and is space inspired! Guests are invited to dress for the theme, but of course, themed attire is not required. Music will be provided by the band Famous on Friday. In line with our Healthy at Assumption protocols, masks will be required at this time. Hope to see you there!
WINTER BREAK: School will be closed for Winter Break from Friday, February 18, through Monday, February 21. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 22.

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30 -9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

LEAD & LEARN UPDATE: During LEAD & Learn time this week, we wrapped up our dedicated New Year to Love Yourself Even Better series with culminating events on Monday and Tuesday during our extended LEAD & Learn time. Those LEAD & Learn times focused on areas to improve social and emotional health and were particularly targeted toward topics that students identified as ones that would help them as they continue to navigate the pandemic. Over the course of the two days, each class engaged in a bonding opportunity specifically designed for their class and received direction in a session on time management skills and a session with Dr. Eric Baker, TAPI, LCADC, LCSW who shared insights on managing anxiety. Students will also ate lunch with their classes on these days.
Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be in class meeting where they will receive direction regarding the course registration process for the 2022-2023 school year. Seniors will engage with the family members in their homerooms on Monday with a session in which they will receive information to help them plan ahead for senior prom and participate in an activity facilitated by their homeroom class officers and Family Councilmembers. On Tuesday, seniors will receive information for Mission Week based on their selected programming for that week.

IMPORTANT 2022-2023 REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
- TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students were emailed a letter from Mary Lang announcing our tuition for the 2022-2023 school year last week. This year we have a new electronic system called Blackbaud Tuition Management (formerly Smart Tuition) which will allow you to securely pay the registration fee of $225 and select your tuition payment option online. Paying the registration fee and completing the tuition selection are required to guarantee your daughter’s course selections and allow her to be considered for financial aid and/or scholarships. The registration fee and tuition selection form are due by February 17. Parents should have received an email directly from Blackbaud with directions to set up their account. Please check your junk or spam boxes. You may read more about how Assumption will use the Blackbaud Tuition Management in these communications. If you are unable to pay the online $225 registration fee or have other arrangements with our finance office, please contact TAMMY FINCH. If you have any questions about registration, please contact your daughter’s dean or our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER.
- PARENT POWERSCHOOL LOG IN FOR 2022-2023 REGISTRATION: We will continue meeting with freshman, sophomore, and junior students during LEAD & Learn over the next week to prepare for our online registration for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a great time to have a conversation with your daughter about her classes for next year. More detailed information will follow, but please make note that you will need to log into your parent PowerSchool account to register your daughter for classes next year. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, when you go to the login screen for PowerSchool, just click on the link “Having trouble signing in?” and follow the directions to obtain a forgotten username or forgotten password.
- 2022-2023 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES: On Monday, February 7, and Tuesday, February 8, our teachers will be conferencing with all current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors regarding their course selections for the 2022-2023 school year. SPRING DUAL CREDIT NEWS: If you daughter is enrolled in a Spring Dual Credit class (DC PreCalculus, DC Calculus, DC Public Speaking or DC Personal Finance), Mrs. Fieldhouse has been in to visit her class this week to discuss registration and KHEAA scholarship eligibility. You should have completed this JCTC ENROLLMENT AGREEMENT FORM with your daughter for all classes except Personal Finance. She will register for Personal Finance at WKU next week in class. Additionally, she should already be able to see her scholarship disbursement from KHEAA listed as TBA for Spring here: KHEAA HOME. CATHOLIC CONFERENCE OF KENTUCKY AND SCHOOL CHOICE HOUSE BILLS: A message from the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Catholic Conference of Kentucky about School Choice: Parents are asked to reach out to your legislators in the next few days and urge them to support SB 50 and HB 305. These bills build on the success of the recently passed Education Opportunity Account Act by expanding the program statewide and increasing the size of the program and the number of eligible families. You can use the form on this page to contact both your state representative and senator with a customized message. https://www.votervoice.net/CCKY/Campaigns/90626/Respond. Education Opportunity Accounts are privately funded by citizens and businesses who donate to non-profit Account Granting Organizations (AGOs). The AGOs then uses the donations to award needs-based funding to eligible families who in turn can utilize these funds for K-12 public and non-public school tuition and fees, online learning programs, tutoring services, therapy programs, transportation to and from school, and more. In this way, a family can choose the school/programs that best meets the unique needs of their child. If you want to see more educational choice in Kentucky, please take a couple of minutes and contact your legislators to ask for their support of SB 50 and HB 305.

CURRENT FRESHMAN REGISTRATION PARENT NIGHT: Thanks to those parents in the Class of 2025 who joined us for this information night on Wednesday. During the course of the event, dean of studies Theresa Schuhmann reviewed the two information sessions covering the registration process that have and will be shared with the freshmen. The first is designed to introduce students to the language of the registration process so that they can be active and informed participants in the process. The second will be covered with the freshmen on Monday and goes through the logistical details of the process including due dates and deadlines. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint that was used as part of this presentation is linked here: FRESHMAN REGISTRATION PARENT NIGHT POWERPOINT

SOPHOMORE ACTS SERVICE BEGINS NEXT WEEK: Parents of sophomores:
- FIRST DAY OF ACTS: Sophomore students will be visiting their ACTS agencies for the first time on Wednesday, February 9. Email KATELYN MOORE with any questions and pray for our sophomores as they begin their ACTS experience!
- ACTS UNIFORM PANTS: Please be sure that your sophomore is prepared for ACTS by having her uniform pants purchased AND embroidered by Shaheens by Wednesday, February 9. Pants are not embroidered in advance of purchase, and embroidery may take a few days, so please do not wait until the last minute. Please be sure to check your daughter’s pants and, if they do not have the Assumption “A”, please take them back to the store to have this added. Uniform pants purchased or passed on from older students with the Assumption crest instead of the “A” are acceptable.

GRADUATION INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF SENIORS – GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS: Our Balfour representative will be on campus during all lunches on Friday, February 25, to collect final orders from seniors during all lunches. Any orders not made by this date will need to be ordered online at www.Balfour.com or contact our rep at 1(763)227-5101 to schedule a time to drop off in person.
SENIOR ASSEMBLY: Parents of Seniors – On Friday, February 11, seniors will participate in an assembly centered around the award-winning documentary, The Hunting Ground. Current statistics indicate that one in five women will be sexually assaulted in college. The documentary features the stories of several victims of campus sexual assault and shows the emotional aftermath on the victims and their individual journeys for justice. At the assembly, seniors will view the documentary and hear from guest speakers about campus resources, consent, and bystander empowerment. We hope that this program will spark a discussion at home about the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses. If you would like to view the documentary with your daughter to foster a follow-up discussion at home, the documentary is available for purchase or rent on Amazon.com: Amazon Link. If you have any questions about this documentary or the assembly planned for seniors, please contact Dawn Deweese via email at dawn.deweese@ahsrockets.org.
