As we celebrate Catholic Schools Week, Assumption High School has additional cause for celebration! It is with great pride that we announce to you that Assumption has received the distinct honor of being named a 2021 School of Distinction for excellence in education by Cognia, the global non-profit school improvement organization, who serves as our accrediting agency.  Assumption High School was recognized and selected as one of only 59 schools and 20 school systems across the globe out of the more than 1,200 institutions who were eligible to be recognized with this distinction.

This inaugural program recognizes pre-K–12 education institutions that excel in educating and serving their students. To earn this distinction, Assumption participated in Cognia’s rigorous Accreditation Engagement Review process, which is based on research-based performance standards. The process included a visit from a team of education experts who completed a thorough review of evidence we provided, conducted interviews, and engaged in classroom observations. The evaluation analyzed Leadership Capacity, Learning Capacity, and Resource Capacity, as well as a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement. See all of the Cognia Schools of Distinction.

We are both honored and humbled to receive this recognition as a result of our accreditation process. Preparation for our accreditation visit provided the opportunity to reflect upon our institutional effectiveness at serving our students. Being named a School of Distinction validates the amazing work that our faculty and staff do each day to meet our students’ whole person needs.

We marvel on a daily basis at the dedication to excellence that our faculty and staff demonstrate on behalf of our students.  We are thrilled for them to see their remarkable work celebrated at an international level.  It is particularly meaningful that this recognition comes at a time when they are working even harder as they seek to address students’ learning needs over the course of the pandemic.

When notifying us of our receipt of this award, Dr. Mark A. Elgart, president and CEO of Cognia, emphasized the significance of this distinction to us when he stated, “Assumption High School is to be commended on their award as a School of Distinction. Cognia accreditation is already a mark of distinction recognized around the world. Being named a School of Distinction further recognizes the commitment to excellence in education Assumption has for its learners.”
