Dear Parents/Guardians,

Today a Special Message from the President and Principal was emailed to all parents/guardians with detailed information about our Reopening and Learning Plan for the upcoming school year. If you did not receive this email, please click on this link to view this important information: Healthy at Assumption.  Please take time to review the plan as a family and complete the survey included at the end of the plan for your daughter(s) by Friday, August 7. We will also be sending a student-friendly version of the plan to all students via email early next week.

Next week, we will send our traditional summer letter that includes all of the usual beginning of the school year information.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to finalize all details for our Healthy at Assumption return to school.

MAIN OFFICE AVAILABILITY:  To adhere to state mandates in response to COVID-19 and to continue to keep our entire community safe and healthy, we are continuing to recommend that parents email or mail any school-related items instead of dropping them off at school.   Assumption’s Main Office will be open from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday starting Monday, August 3. In line with Assumption’s Re-opening and Learning Plan, visitors to the school will continue to be limited.  Any visitor who has an appointment that requires them to come into the building should come to the Tyler Lane door, ring the buzzer, and will be met there.  Visitors must wear a mask, undergo a temperature scan, and complete a health screening before entering the building.  Please feel free to contact Amy Schelb at 502-458-9551, option 0, or email at amy.schelb@ahsrockets.org for questions regarding the above or if you need assistance during this time.

FACULTY/STAFF RETREAT: The school and all offices will be closed while faculty and staff participate in an opening retreat on Thursday, August 6. Please keep us in your prayers.

ATHLETICS UPDATE: From the Athletic Office – Assumption’s golf team begins competition this Friday at the E’town Country Club. Good luck to our Rocket Golfers! The KHSAA Board of Control met this week and approved for sports to begin on Monday, August 24. This would be the earliest date that soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, cheer and dance would be allowed to have tryouts. Once tryout dates are set we will update this page Fall Tryouts on our website. Please continue to monitor this link for further information. The board also approved for games to begin as early as September 7. We are busy working on schedules and should have those pages on the website updated soon.

APPLIED DIGITAL SKILLS COURSE FRESHMEN AND TRANSFER STUDENTS:  During the weeks of July 27 and August 3, we are welcoming freshmen and transfers students to campus in groups of 10 for a 15-minute introduction to their HP Dragonfly tablets. This brief training allows them to quickly familiarize themselves with their tablet and login information.  Following their in-person training, freshmen and transfer students will receive an invitation to begin their semester-long Applied Digital Skills technology course to learn more on the features and capabilities of their tablet PC. This fully-online course has been in development over the last year and was designed by Jill Elder, one of our technology integration specialists, in collaboration with teachers. The course will be delivered over freshman and transfer students’ first semester to ensure that they can master the programs and software that they use in the classroom.   Although this course was planned as an enhancement to the already robust training that students new to Assumption received directly and through use and training within the context of their classes in the past, we are proud to launch this course in the 2020-2021 school year as we know now, more than ever, understanding the digital world is key to how our students will thrive in class or at home with their HP tablets.

INCOMING FRESHMEN AND TRANSFER STUDENTS: Thanks to all parents who attended our Zoom Parent Tablet PC Orientation meeting this week.  Here is the link to the PowerPoint Presentation which is also posted on the Class of 2024 webpage.  If you were unable to attend, please contact Angie.Dusch@ahsrockets.org, and she will let you know what you need to do so your daughter can pick up her tablet PC.  Remember, in order for your daughter to be able to leave with her Tablet PC, she needs to bring the printed signed Tablet PC Agreement Form linked here which can also be found on our website on the Class of 2024 page or by searching www.ahsrockets.org for Tablet PC 2024.

SENIOR PORTRAITS: Senior parents, if she hasn’t already done so, please make sure your daughter makes an appointment to have her senior portrait for the yearbook and the class composite taken before school starts if at all possible. While they may have other senior portraits taken by any photographer of choice, only senior drape photos taken by Illumination Photography Studio, the Senior Portrait Division of [BIG] Photo, the official photographer for Assumption High School, will be included in the yearbook and the class composite. Use this link to access full information about options and pricing and to book an appointment.

CLARIFICATION ON CLASS OF 2024 EMAIL ADDRESSES: Parents of incoming freshmen, please note that when we ran the list of classes for the class of 2024 to send earlier this month, we were unaware that the report would generate with a typographical error in the student email address.  You may have noticed that the period or “dot” (.) between “ahsrockets” and “org” was missing.  The correct email address for freshmen should read as follows “first name.lastname24@ahsrockets.org” ; i.e. rosie.rocket24@ahsrockets.org or a first initial.last name24@ahsrockets.org; i.e. r.rocketsarelaunching24@ahsrockets.org for a student whose first and last names with the “24” exceeds 24 characters.  Using the correct format is critical so that your daughter may receive the information needed by email from MBSDirect.

PURCHASING BOOKS FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR:  Assumption’s MBS Direct bookstore is open.  When you log onto MBS via this link to purchase textbooks with your daughter’s student ID number, it will provide her list of books.  Book titles and ISBN numbers will be available for purchase through MBS.  You are welcome to use this information to shop via other sources (ex. Amazon) if you would prefer.  Please pay special attention to any “student message” listed at the top of the page regarding digital versions of texts.  Most courses allow for student choice.  Also, all course fees for art and any other courses must be paid via MBS Direct. Please note:  MBS Direct is the official supplier of textbooks for AHS students and works closely with the school to have all textbooks to the students by the start of school. If you choose to order books from a different online source, this needs to be done early enough to make sure the student has her books prior to the start of school; a student will not be excused from having a textbook if it was ordered late or from a vendor other than MBS Direct.

FRESHMAN SUMMER READING – NEW UPDATE:  A new update about the freshman summer reading novel, A Summer of Kings:  It has come to our attention that availability of A Summer of Kings is limited in bookstores and online. It was our understanding that MBS Direct would have copies for purchase either in paperback or digitally but that has not occurred. The book is available to read electronically, and the English department has updated the summer reading assignment for students to see how they can complete their active reading with the digital version.  Follow this link to the updated assignment:  Updated Freshman Summer Reading Assignment. You can purchase a digital copy through the vendor of your choice, but for your convenience we have included the link for purchase through Amazon:  Digital Version of A Summer of Kings

IMMUNIZATION CERTIFICATES:  ALL STUDENTS (returning, incoming freshmen, transfers) are required by state statute to have a current Commonwealth of Kentucky Certificate of Immunization Status on file with the school by the first day of classes. Immunization certificates may be faxed to the school at 502-454-8411 or snail mailed to Assumption High School, 2170 Tyler Lane, Louisville, KY  40205.

PHYSICALS FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN, TRANSFER STUDENTS, AND ATHLETES:  Parents of Assumption athletes: KHSAA requires that your daughter have a current physical on file with the athletic office before she may participate in tryouts or practice of any kind (even virtually). This physical must be submitted on the KHSAA PHYSICAL FORM. All incoming freshmen and transfer students need to have current physicals for the 2020-2021 school year on file with us by the first day of classes. You can use this link to access the AHS PHYSICAL FORM if you need one. If your daughter is a student-athlete, please use the AHS Physical Form, which incorporates the KHSAA form so it can be used for athletics, but also contains other information needed by Assumption personnel. Completed physical forms may be faxed to the school at 502-454-8411 or mailed to Assumption High School, 2170 Tyler Lane, Louisville, KY  40205.

Gratefully,

Martha Tedesco
Principal
