SPECIAL MONDAY EDITION ROCKET REPORT
Dear Parents,
We hope you and your daughters enjoyed a safe and healthy spring break. While we were on spring break, Governor Andy Beshear asked all school superintendents to extend the closure of school buildings until Friday, May 1. Below is communication from the archdiocese in response to the governor’s recommendation:

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
April 2, 2020
Dear Catholic School Leaders and Parents,
Given Governor Andy Beshear’s recommendation today that all Kentucky schools cease in-person classes through Friday, May 1, 2020, Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville will not resume in-person instruction for that period. As previously communicated, online/alternative instruction will continue as announced. All Catholic school activities are canceled during this time. The Archdiocese of Louisville will continue to resource and support Catholic school leaders and teachers as they serve students in the coming weeks.
Thank you,
Leisa Schulz
Superintendent of Schools
Assumption will continue to offer quality instruction to your daughter through our current virtual learning plan. We are so proud of the entire community of Assumption as we have worked together virtually. Our students have done an excellent job learning how to navigate Microsoft Teams and communicating with their teachers. We are especially proud of our senior class who continue to be leaders of the school, even from afar. We are proud of the way that they continue to challenge themselves academically and spiritually. And we are most proud of their class motto which has become vitally important through all of this: Always together, never apart, maybe at distance, but never at heart. We hope the seniors enjoyed the “We are proud of the Class of 2020” yard signs that popped up in their front yards over spring break that fully expressed this sentiment!
We know that you and your daughters have questions about milestone events and we want to assure you that we are continuing to assess events on a case by case basis depending upon a possible return to school or an alternate way and time to celebrate. We promise to keep you posted and informed.
Please know that we are keeping your families in our continued prayers. We ask that you keep the entire community of Assumption in your prayers as well as we navigate this ever-changing situation together.
VIRTUAL LEARNING DAYS AND STUDENT RESOURCES: Our virtual learning day schedule will continue for this week. Our teachers have done an amazing job with interactive lessons during our virtual learning days. We are so grateful for all of their hard work planning, preparing, and teaching! As always, we will be evaluating our virtual learning processes as we move forward and communicate any changes as determined. During this time, we want to assure you that your daughters will have continued access to the following student resources:
- MORNING PRAYER AND ANNOUNCEMENTS DAILY EMAIL: Morning prayer and announcements will continue to be sent each day. This email contains a mindfulness moment, prayer, and birthdays as well as daily announcements. It is one way that we are keeping our students, faculty, and staff connected.
- GUIDANCE: Your daughter’s guidance counselor will also continue to send a daily email with specific information related to your daughter’s grade level. You and/or your daughter are welcome to email any counselor via email or may reach the Guidance Office by calling 502-271-2539 for any assistance. Guidance counselors will also be meeting with individual students and groups via Teams. Our college counselors are also sending an email each day to their students informing students of pertinent college information and are available via email or can meet with students individually via Teams.
- ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES -ACHIEVEMENT CENTER AND PSP: Our academic support services continue to be available for all students through the Achievement Center. Mrs. Conway and Mr. Armstrong can be contacted via email. Students who are in the PSP learning differences program are expected to join a Team meetings during their study block for guidance and assistance from their learning differences teacher and may also email Mrs. Cronin or Mrs. Erskine for additional support as well.
- TECH SUPPORT: Students who have any issues with their tablet PCs should contact Mr. Russ Wallace in the Boeckmann Lab via email.
- RESOURCE LINKS: Here are the resource links that we have shared previously for your continued reference:
ATTENDANCE CHANGE AND HELP NEEDED FROM PARENTS: After completing three virtual learning days before spring break, we realized that we needed to do a little tweaking to help make everything go more smoothly for both students and teachers. Beginning TUESDAY, April 7, students will need to complete an Attendance Survey every morning between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. before starting classes at 9:00 a.m. Parents do still need to call the school office (458-9551) or email attendance@ahsrockets.og if their student is sick and won’t be able to attend her classes or if she is going to miss all or part of a day due to medical appointments, virtual college visits, etc. If a student doesn’t submit her survey response by 10:15 a.m. and we haven’t heard from a parent, Laura Burnam, our attendance clerk/school nurse, will call you to check on your daughter’s status for the day. There are several things you can do to help your daughter during our extended time out of our building:
- Remind her to submit her attendance survey by 9:00 a.m. every day.
- Make sure she is awake and ready to be in her first class by 9:00 a.m.
- Try to help her if she encounters a technology problem—and if it can’t be resolved within 10 minutes or so, please make sure she lets us know (see Tech Support above) or you can let us know if the nature of the problem means that she can’t.
- Help your daughter remember to check and read her school email at least a couple of times throughout the day—it’s really our only way to communicate with her about announcements and reminders.
- Reach out to your daughter’s counselor if you see her struggling emotionally during this anxiety-filled time or her teachers or academic dean (Judy Fieldhouse A-K, Theresa Schuhmann L-Z) if she is experiencing academic challenges as we continue our virtual learning days.
HOLY WEEK STATIONS OF THE CROSS: If we were in the building, we would have had a whole-school prayer service on Good Friday this week featuring the Stations of the Cross. We may not be physically together, but we can still pray the stations! Students received an email on Sunday explaining a way to access “digital stations of the cross.” They have been invited to pray a few stations each day during Holy Week using the music, art, and reflection question provided. If you’d like to pray along with them, please check out that email yourself!
ALTERNATIVE SPIRIT WEEK: Since everyone’s Spring Break probably wasn’t what we had planned this year, the Family Council wanted to welcome students back to virtual learning this week with an “alternative spirit week.” Students have been asked to join in the fun by dressing up each day according to that day’s theme, post a photo of themselves dressed up on Instagram, and tag @ahsfamilycouncil. It’s an opportunity for students to show their school spirit digitally!
Gratefully,
Martha Tedesco
