April 19, 2024

At Assumption, we have been blessed with numerous accolades over the years that recognize not only our superior educational programming but also our dynamic school culture. But such a culture is not something we can ever take for granted. It requires strategic, intentional efforts to make sure that our students, parents, and employees feel that they belong to a vibrant community in which they can thrive. That’s why we invest in implementing school culture surveys. Students and employees will finish completing their versions of the surveys by the end of next week, but parent input is also critical. Many schools are reluctant to seek out parent feedback, but at AHS, we embrace it! Please, take a few minutes to complete the survey sent to you via email by Independent School Management (ISM) on April 10. The survey will remain open through April 24. We rely on your input to make Assumption the best possible environment for both students and adults within the community!

AP Seminar & Research Oral and Visual Presentations
This week, 94 of our juniors and seniors delivered their AP Capstone Seminar and Research presentations. These students learned to synthesize information from multiple sources, developed their own perspectives in written essays, chose their own topics and designed and delivered their oral and visual presentations. Students presented in front of a panel of administrators, faculty, and outside community members. On Tuesday, the AP Capstone students will be sharing their work in the Media Center at 6:30 p.m. All are invited and admission is free!

12:30 DISMISSAL DAY ON FRIDAY, APRIL 26: On Friday, April 26, we will follow a 12:30 dismissal schedule so that our faculty and staff can participate in a timely faculty/staff meeting. The seniors will be participating in Senior Celebration on this day and will also be dismissing by 12:30. After-school supervision will not be provided. Please make plans for your daughter to be picked up by 12:45.
SENIOR CELEBRATION DAY: On Friday, April 26, the class of 2025 will participate in Senior Celebration Day. Seniors will report to school by 8:15 a.m. as usual but may wear shorts and Senior Celebration Day team color t-shirts. The senior class will spend the day participating in a mind, body, and spirit field day, which will culminate with a class picture and class cookout in the courtyard. Seniors will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
PINK AND WHITE GAME: The seventeenth annual Pink and White Game will be held at Saint Xavier High School on Friday, April 26, at 7:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Students may purchase tickets during lunches in the cafeteria the week of April 22; tickets are $10.00. Assumption, Sacred Heart, St. X, and Trinity each receive a ticket allotment to sell to their communities. We are encouraging students to arrange with their family and friends at St. X, Trinity, and Sacred Heart to buy their tickets at their own schools. To ensure that all students have the opportunity to buy a ticket from Assumption’s allotted tickets, on Monday, April 24, each student may buy only one ticket for herself. For the remainder of the week, students may buy a maximum of two tickets per day. Tickets will be sold to students only. There will be no outside sales. Please note: All schools have agreed that there will be no tailgating at this event, and we highly encourage carpooling to the game!
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING PLAY: A story of courtship and laughter, Much Ado about Nothing centers on two couples. The relationship between the young Hero and her suitor Claudio drives the plot, but it is Hero’s cousin Beatrice and her war of words with the witty soldier Benedick which will steal the audience’s hearts. The play begins with the soldiers’ return from war. By setting Shakespeare’s classic comedy in post-WWI Britain, Rose Theatre hopes to immerse audiences in an age of upstairs-downstairs drama, suffragists, and scandal. Performances will be April 20, 25, and 27 at 7 p.m., April 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at www.showtix.com. You can use this link or go to Showtix and search for “Assumption.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact us at rose.theatre@ahsrockets.org.

PARENT PRAYER – PINK & WHITE EDITION: Each year before the Pink & White Game, the parents of Catholic high school students come together for a joint prayer service. Please join us for this year’s Pink & White Parent Prayer on Thursday, April 25, at 8:30 a.m. at Assumption. Please enter through the main entrance and greeters will direct you to the service in our chapel. And those who usually come to our own AHS Parent Prayer on Tuesdays, please be aware that we will NOT meet on April 23 since the special service is on April 25. Refreshments will be available in the Atrium afterwards.
PRAYER INTENTIONS: The Community of Assumption knows the power of prayer! All AHS parents and alumnae are invited to submit prayer intentions online. These intentions are then lifted in prayer all together during Five-Minute Prayer in the chapel on Wednesdays and weekly on the PA during morning prayer. If you would like to submit an intention, you can do so here. They will remain there for about two weeks, but feel free to post the same intention again later if needed. Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

This week LEAD & Learn time will continue to build the anticipation of a fun Assumption tradition: bleacher dances. On Thursday, April 25th, our Spring athletes will celebrate their season with our Spring Pep Rally in addition to the performance of each grade level’s bleacher dance. We will also celebrate the spirited work of the entire student body throughout the year by announcing the winner of this year’s Family Competition. While the seniors participate in Senior Celebration Day on Friday, April 26th, our underclasswomen will think ahead to the 2024-2025 school year by participating in Student Leadership elections. Our candidates for Family Council President and Class President will deliver speeches to each class which will paint the picture of what they hope the next school year will look like. The student body will have until Tuesday, April 30th to cast votes.

WE NEED YOUR VOTE! For the last two years, Assumption was chosen as the Best Private High School in Louisville by the Courier Journal as part of its Community Choice Awards which recognizes the top organizations and businesses in 25 different categories. We are honored to be nominated again for this year! We are asking our families to support Assumption so we can again be recognized as the best of the best here in Louisville. Voting is open until Monday, April 29 and you can vote once per day. Click here to vote.
