Director of Leadership and Engagement, Kristin Walsh
Today, our students, faculty, and staff gathered so that our nine families could compete in a fun-filled Family Council-sponsored Olympics event. Our Family Council student leaders did an excellent job organizing and facilitating the many games and competitions between our families. The opening ceremonies honored the seniors and their four-year commitment as a member of their family with a senior parade. The Family Olympics were not just a culminating activity for our annual Family Competition but also gave students the opportunity to spend time, connect, and engage with members from each grade in their family. The spirit on display was exciting to experience. Please take a moment to ask your daughter about the day and what she may have learned from the new family members that she met. It was truly a wonderful community-building event. After all scores are calculated, the winner of Family Olympics and the overall family winner for the year will be announced at the spring pep rally later this month.

ACTS Prayer Service
On Tuesday, our sophomores attended a prayer service to conclude their ACTS service experience. These students worked diligently every Wednesday this semester with various community service connections in Louisville. There is a large range of focuses, such as the marginalized elderly populations, refugee/immigrant populations, special needs, populations in poverty, global issues, domestic violence/abuse survivors, animal welfare, environmental destruction, and more. This allows students to serve in line with concerns they are passionate about. We are so grateful our students get to participate in this compassion-centered journey, and that positive impacts in our community are being made. This prayer service gave students space to reflect and share about what ACTS has meant for them, and so they could be blessed for everything ahead, including new opportunities for service and compassion.

JUNIOR PROM SEMIFORMAL DANCE: On Saturday, April 13, the junior class is hosting a juniors-only prom from 8:00-11:00 p.m. Every student and her guest must have a ticket that was purchased in advance. Each student must also present her student ID when entering. Tickets were sold during all lunches April 9-12. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Students have received information about dance rules and expectations via SharePoint, email, and morning announcements. In order to ensure student safety, all students and guests must arrive by 9:00 p.m. and may not leave until 10:30 p.m. All students will be monitored with the use of a passive alcohol sensor upon arrival and departure of the dance.
RTI TIME DURING LEAD & LEARN NEXT WEEK: Next week on Monday, April 15 and Tuesday, April 16 during LEAD & Learn Time, we are offering Rockets Taking Initiative (RTI) time again. During this time, students will have the opportunity to work with teachers on course skills, to get organized, or participate in extension opportunities. Students may be specifically referred by a teacher during this time. If your daughter has been referred for assistance, she has received an email with information, and you will receive an email this afternoon as well.
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: Assumption is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, April 17. Student donors must be at least 16 years old. Students who are 16 must have parental permission; students 17 and older may give without parental permission. Student sign-ups will begin soon. We encourage you to talk with your daughter about how to prepare for being a donor if she expresses interest. The Red Cross provides more information for students at this link: Red Cross Student Guide to Blood Donation.pdf. We have some open appointment times, so we invite any parent who is interested to sign up to be a donor at this drive. Please contact diane.darst@ahsrockets.org for scheduling. Thank you!
CALENDAR CHANGE – 12:30 DISMISSAL DAY ON FRIDAY, APRIL 26: On Friday, April 26, we will follow a 12:30 dismissal schedule so that our faculty and staff can participate in a timely faculty/staff meeting. The seniors will be participating in Senior Celebration on this day and will also be dismissing by 12:30.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, April 16 from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. We will be praying for all juniors. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance.
PARENT PRAYER – PINK & WHITE EDITION: Each year before the Pink & White Game, the parents of Catholic high school students come together for a joint prayer service. Please join us for this year’s Pink & White Parent Prayer on Thursday, April 25, at 8:30 a.m. at Assumption. Please enter through the main entrance and greeters will direct you to the service in our chapel. And those who usually come to our own AHS Parent Prayer on Tuesdays, please be aware that we will NOT meet on April 23 since the special service is on April 25. Refreshments will be available in the Atrium afterwards.
PRAYER INTENTIONS: The Community of Assumption knows the power of prayer! All AHS parents and alumnae are invited to submit prayer intentions online. These intentions are then lifted in prayer all together during Five-Minute Prayer in the chapel on Wednesdays and weekly on the PA during morning prayer. If you would like to submit an intention, you can do so here. They will remain there for about two weeks, but feel free to post the same intention again later if needed. Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

This week LEAD & Learn time will be devoted to RTI and another community building event: Bleacher dances. During our Spring Pep rally, each class will perform a choreographed dance on the bleachers arranged by the class officers. We’re excited to see how these dances come together with lots of devoted practice this year!

WORK IT WEDNESDAY – APRIL’S SCHEDULE: The Achievement Center will be hosting two more Work It Wednesdays for the month of April. Mark your calendars now for April 17 and 24. Students are invited to come to the Media Center from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to receive extra support in their classes from peer tutors, study groups, or the AC teachers. We ask students to please RSVP in advance.
SCHOOL CULTURE SURVEYS: At Assumption, excellence empowers, so we are always committed to continuous improvement. We rely on feedback from students, parents, and employees on their experience as part of the community. Therefore, we have contracted with ISM (Independent School Management) to implement school culture surveys with each of these groups in April. Students will complete their version of the survey during homeroom time over the next two weeks based on grade level. Parents and employees received an email with a link to the survey this week. Please take some time to complete the parent version of the survey. Your feedback makes it possible for us to identify what we are doing well and what we may need to work on. Thank you!
ACT TEST PREP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep, an innovative test training program that cracks the code on improving ACT scores. TorchPrep has continually yielded outstanding ACT scores for our students. Last year, Assumption students who participated in TorchPrep saw an average score increase of 2.3 points. All courses include 30 hours of direct training, four full-length simulated tests, TorchPrep training manual, customized study plan, and guaranteed results. The training program will take place at Assumption June 3 – 6 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Early registration deadline is May 24. More information about programs, registration, and fees can be found at www.torchprep.com.
PINK AND WHITE GAME: The seventeenth annual Pink and White Game will be held at Saint Xavier High School on Friday, April 26, at 7:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Students may purchase tickets during lunches in the cafeteria the week of April 22; tickets are $10.00. Assumption, Sacred Heart, St. X, and Trinity each receive a ticket allotment to sell to their communities. We are encouraging students to arrange with their family and friends at St. X, Trinity, and Sacred Heart to buy their tickets at their own schools. In order to ensure that all students have the opportunity to buy a ticket from Assumption’s allotted tickets, on Monday, April 24, each student may buy only one ticket for herself. For the remainder of the weeks, students may buy a maximum of two tickets per day. Tickets will bfamike sold to students only. There will be no outside sales. Please note: All schools have agreed that there will be no tailgating at this event, and we highly encourage carpooling to the game!
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING PLAY: A story of courtship and laughter, Much Ado about Nothing centers on two couples. The relationship between the young Hero and her suitor Claudio drives the plot, but it is Hero’s cousin Beatrice and her war of words with the witty soldier Benedick which will steal the audience’s hearts. The play begins with the soldiers’ return from war. By setting Shakespeare’s classic comedy in post-WWI Britain, Rose Theatre hopes to immerse audiences in an age of upstairs-downstairs drama, suffragists, and scandal. Performances will be April 20, 25, and 27 at 7 p.m., April 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at www.showtix.com. You can use this link or go to Showtix and search for “Assumption.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact us at rose.theatre@ahsrockets.org.

ALUMNAE UNITE: On April 16-18, Rocket alums are participating in our annual Alumnae Unite giving challenge between the alums of Bethlehem, Holy Cross, Mercy, Presentation, and Sacred Heart. Similar to the Rocket Madness family fundraiser in March, this fundraiser is focused on participation but is targeted for our alumnae in which they are asked to give back in support of their alma mater. This is one of the largest alumnae fundraisers of the year and is a big competition between the other schools’ alumnae. If you have an alum daughter, sister, or friend, please encourage them to participate in this fundraiser aimed at supporting all Rockets! Learn more here!
