President and the Principal, Mary Lang and Martha Tedesco
The Community of Assumption wishes all of our families a safe spring break and a blessed Easter. May we share together in this prayer for Easter:
Good and gracious God,
We praise you and thank you for the gift of new life in the Risen Jesus.
May we be like the women at the empty tomb and the disciples on the road to Emmaus
who welcome Christ into our homes and hearts even when we are confused or afraid.
Help us to be open to the Paschal Mystery at work in our own lives
so that we may truly be people of the Resurrection.
Amen.

Senior Citizen Prom
This past weekend, Assumption’s Beta Club hosted the 21st annual Senior Citizen Prom! This year’s theme was the Roaring 20s, and we were so thrilled to have 175 guests join us for live music, dancing, and delicious food. This annual service project, organized by Assumption students, gives senior citizens in the greater Louisville community a chance to have some fun. Many thanks to the live band, our Beta Club, and to every guest we had!

SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, March 29, since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive. School will resume on Monday, April 8 with a digital learning day due to the solar eclipse. The school building will re-open with in-person classes onTuesday, April 9.
ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that Assumption does not grant excused absences for college days on days immediately before or after Spring Break. We also cannot excuse students from school for family trips and/or vacations. If you are planning to take your daughter out of school for the whole day or before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, whether to incorporate a college visit or to get a jump start on Spring Break travel, please bear in mind that the absence will be unexcused and she will not be able to receive full credit for anything collected for a grade (including tests) in her classes while she is gone; makeup work that is completed and turned in will receive 50% of the grade earned. If your daughter becomes ill and is unable to attend school on Thursday, March 28, or Tuesday, April 9, she will need to provide a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Dean of Students Kamaria Wesley. Full details about our attendance and absence policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.
DIGITAL LEARNING DAY – MONDAY APRIL 8 – SOLAR ECLIPSE: On the Monday after spring break, April 8, a total solar eclipse will occur and be visible in some areas of Kentucky and southern Indiana. We will see a partial eclipse in Louisville beginning around 2:00 p.m. with the largest impact occurring locally at 3:07 p.m. So that students, faculty, and staff can be home or travel to see this once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, we will utilize a digital learning day. Teachers will post lessons for the day’s classes on Teams by 8:15 a.m. and will be available via email for students until 1:00 p.m. Students will be required to complete their digital class work by the next class meeting day. Student attendance for this day will be determined by completion and submission of work by the established due date. The school building will be closed.
FAMILY OLYMPICS: On Friday, April 12, all families will compete in Family Council-sponsored Olympics event from 12:50-3:00 p.m. Families will participate in a series of activities which will serve to strengthen family bonds and promote friendly, inter-family competition. Activities will include a family potluck, opening ceremony, four Olympic-style games, and finally, a closing competition in the gym at the end of the day. Families will dine together in their family suites picnic style by either organizing a family potluck OR bringing their own brown bag lunch. Traditional FLIK lunch will not be available for purchase on this day as families are encouraged to spend their time together. Additionally, students are encouraged to wear a family t-shirt OR a t-shirt in their family color WITH their uniform skirts. May the best family win!

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, April 9 from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. We will be praying for all sophomores. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance.
PRAYER INTENTIONS: The Community of Assumption knows the power of prayer! All AHS parents and alumnae are invited to submit prayer intentions online. These intentions are then lifted in prayer all together during Five-Minute Prayer in the chapel on Wednesdays and weekly on the PA during morning prayer. If you would like to submit an intention, you can do so here. They will remain there for about two weeks, but feel free to post the same intention again later if needed. Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

Following spring break, we will be in celebration mode during LEAD & Learn times. This week, our sophomores will participate in their ACTS closing prayer service, our juniors will receive some reminders about their punior Prom and upcoming leadership opportunities for their senior year, and seniors will continue to look forward to graduation. All students will have the opportunity to participate in a short mass on Thursday held in our Chapel by Fr. Dustin Hungerford as well as participate in a school culture survey to afford us valuable insight into their school experience as a whole. We will end the week with our Family Olympics on Friday. Students should plan to bring a brown-bag lunch this day as the lunches will be held in homeroom and FLIK will have very limited ordering options.

SCHOOL CULTURE SURVEYS: At Assumption, excellence empowers, so we are always committed to continuous improvement. We rely on feedback from students, parents, and employees on their experience as part of the community. Therefore, we have contracted with ISM (Independent School Management) to implement school culture surveys with each of these groups in April. Students will complete their version of the survey during LEAD & Learn time on April 11. Parents and employees will receive an email with a link to the survey shortly after spring break. Please take some time to complete the parent version of the survey. Your feedback makes it possible for us to identify what we are doing well and what we may need to work on. Thank you!
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: Assumption is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, April 17. Student donors must be at least 16 years old. Students who are 16 must have parental permission; students 17 and older may give without parental permission. Student sign-ups will begin soon. We encourage you to talk with your daughter about how to prepare for being a donor if she expresses interest. The Red Cross provides more information for students at this link: Red Cross Student Guide to Blood Donation.pdf.
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING PLAY: A story of courtship and laughter, Much Ado about Nothing centers on two couples. The relationship between the young Hero and her suitor Claudio drives the plot, but it is Hero’s cousin Beatrice and her war of words with the witty soldier Benedick which will steal the audience’s hearts. The play begins with the soldiers’ return from war. By setting Shakespeare’s classic comedy in post-WWI Britain, Rose Theatre hopes to immerse audiences in an age of upstairs-downstairs drama, suffragists, and scandal. Performances will be April 20, 25, and 27 at 7 p.m., April 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at www.showtix.com. You can use this link or go to Showtix and search for “Assumption.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact us at rose.theatre@ahsrockets.org.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer have been updated. You can find these on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2024. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like General/Pre-College, Leadership, STEM, etc. Many applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.

ROCKET MADNESS: We want to extend a huge thank you to the families who supported Rocket Madness raising over $20,000 in just five days! It means so much that you chose to invest in programs that further enhance the Assumption experience for your Rocket and future Rockets! Congratulations to the sophomore class who won the class challenge with 22% giving and received a cupcake during lunch on Wednesday as their treat. For those who donated over $100 and did not receive their backpack cooler this week, your cooler will be available for pick-up in the Main Office after Spring Break. Missed your chance to give? SENIORS – MOTHER/DAUGHTER BREAKFAST FOLLOW UP: Thanks to all the senior mothers/mother figures for attending this year’s event with their daughters! It was equal parts fun and tearful and marks the first of many events over the next several weeks to celebrate the Class of 2024. If you would like to purchase photos from the event, you can do so by scanning the QR code on the card you received at the breakfast and selecting “Assumption High School” or going to https://shop.studioillumination.com/assumption/. NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES: Beginning April 9, as FLIK works to close out the school year with our graduating class, seniors who have a negative FLIK lunch account will not be able to charge their account until the account is brought positive.
LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents – The final deadline for submission of letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges is April 10. Your student’s timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2024. After April 10, the documentation used for the Senior Honors Ceremony will be finalized for printing and we will not be able to make any further changes. Admission letters and award notifications can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org or brought in to Guidance.
SENIOR PARENT LETTER: An email was sent out on Wednesday, March 27 to parents of seniors giving details about senior activities and graduation events that will be occurring in April and May, including a link to the Class of 2024 senior events website page.
