Deans of Studies, Theresa Schuhmann and Judy Fieldhouse
We would like to thank all of our parents who met with one or more of their daughter’s teachers during Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences on Tuesday night. We hope that you found the virtual conference format to be a convenient and efficient way to address the need to meet with our faculty. We appreciate your partnership, and we value the opportunity to work together for your daughter. Whether you participated in a conference last night or not, this is a great time in the school year to have a conversation with your daughter about her academic progress. Is she meeting her goals? Does she need to make adjustments to her study habits? What does she need to do to have a successful end to the school year? There are many resources to help her achieve her goals. Encourage your daughter to work with her teachers, deans, and counselors to take advantage of resources such as the upcoming LEAD & Learn day, Achievement Center, Work It Wednesdays, peer tutors, and study sessions offered by teachers as she needs them.
Additionally, we know that your daughter’s success is most important to you and to us. We want to make sure that our programming formats are meeting these needs. That is why we are asking for your feedback on virtual events held this spring (Registration and College Night for sophomore and junior parents, Current Freshman Registration Night, P/T/S Conferences ) by answering this three-question survey by Thursday, March 30: VIRTUAL EVENTS SURVEY

Assumption is the largest all-girls Catholic high school in the region, but did you know that our administration maintains a commitment to the personalized academic experience? One of the benefits of being a large, medium sized school is that students are able to individualize their academic plans as they chose from a wide variety of semester and yearlong courses in every academic discipline. Even with the wide variety, we maintain classroom environments where students are able to be known and supported individually by prioritizing our as reflected by our average class size. As your daughter makes decisions regarding her courses next year, you can feel confident that she will be appropriately challenged by teachers who know her well and classmates who she will be able to get to grow alongside.

LEAD & LEARN WEDNESDAY – MARCH 22: Our third LEAD & Learn Wednesday will take place next week on Wednesday, March 22. Please be sure to talk with your daughter about her plans for this day as her plan must be submitted for her attendance on Wednesday via an attendance online survey. Students invited specifically to attend an academic help session were notified by their teachers this week via email (and a parent/guardian was copied on the email). Please remember, we strongly recommend that students attend if an invitation is extended, and we ask that you and your daughter discuss this weekend how to ensure that she is able to do so. Students may arrive for their scheduled meetings, if applicable, after 12:00 p.m. Supervised study in the cafeteria is available between 12:00-4:30 p.m. Please consult this message sent out prior to our first LEAD & Learn Wednesday on September 28 to review general details of these days: SPECIAL MESSAGE TO PARENTS – LEAD & LEARN WEDNESDAYS.
FAMILY OLYMPICS: On Friday, March 24, all families will compete in Family Council-sponsored Olympics event from 12:50-3:00 p.m. Families will participate in a series of activities which will serve to strengthen family bonds and promote friendly, inter-family competition. Activities will include a family potluck, opening ceremony, four Olympic-style games, and finally, a closing competition in the gym at the end of the day. Families will dine together in their family suites picnic style by either organizing a family potluck OR bringing their own brown bag lunch. Traditional FLIK lunch will not be available for purchase on this day as families are encouraged to spend their time together. Additionally, students are encouraged to wear a family t-shirt OR a t-shirt in their family color WITH their uniform skirts. May the best family win!
SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, March 31, since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive, and continue through Monday, April 10 (Easter Monday). School will resume on Tuesday, April 11.

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, March 21, from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Next week, we will be praying for the Tullamore Family freshmen and sophomores. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities. All are welcome!

This past week, our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors learned more about our registration process and courses for next year. Seniors learned more about graduation and participated in a collaborative art project.
Next week, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will have an opportunity to get teacher signatures on their printed registration forms on Monday and Tuesday. Seniors will have class meetings on Monday and Tuesday to discuss Family Olympics and speakers for their graduation events. On Thursday and Friday, students will not have LEAD & Learn time due to our annual Prevention Assembly and Family Olympics.

CARPOOL LANE REMINDERS: The parking lot proctors and parents in the carpool lane would like to remind you that drivers need to pull up as far as possible in the carpool lane before stopping, and that once the vehicle has pulled up as far as possible behind the car in front of it and stops, the student is to get out of the car and then walk along the sidewalk to the entrance of her choice. Please do not stop short so your daughter will be close to her preferred entrance. When you stop short, it causes the carpool lane to stop and traffic to back up on Bardstown Road; it also creates a dangerous situation when the student takes what seems like a long time to get herself and her belongings out of the car and those in line behind the stopped vehicle try to go around the vehicle and block the flow of traffic in the two-way drive, which is used by those who need to drive in the opposite direction of the carpool lane to get to their parking spaces. We ask our students to treat others with courtesy and compassion and to follow school rules and procedures to keep things running smoothly and safely. Parents and guardians, we ask the same of you.
WORK IT WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE FOR MARCH: There will not be a Work It Wednesday next week on March 22, but the AC will be open for LEAD & Learn Wednesday from 12-3 p.m. The next Work It Wednesday is scheduled for March 29. Mark your calendar now and be sure to RSVP in advance to Mrs. Conway or Ms. Prentice.

LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2023. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. We ask that students submit all of this information by Monday, March 27, 2023.

DRESS CODE FOR SENIOR PROM: Seniors received information about their Senior Prom at class meetings this week. Senior Prom will be held Friday, May 12, at the Mellwood Art Center from 6-11 p.m. Unlike other Assumption dances, the senior prom is a formal dance, and our dean of students, Cindi Baughman, reviewed information about our dress code for a formal dance with the seniors; she also emailed information about the dress code for the dance to all the seniors. That information is linked here: DANCE DRESS CODE INFORMATION FOR SENIOR PROM. Please take a few minutes to look it over and then to discuss with your daughter so you can help her know what is expected as she is deciding what to wear to the event—as you will see in the information, Mrs. Baughman recommends that they ask parents for advice in following the guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with other specific information about Senior Prom in class meetings and with reminder emails and announcements.

NATIONAL ACT FOR JUNIORS: On Tuesday, March 28, all juniors will take the National ACT at Assumption at 8:15 a.m. Juniors will be dismissed at 12:45 on this day. Just like in October, there is no makeup date for this ACT at AHS, no signup is needed on the part of each family, and this test fee is covered by your tuition dollars. Please encourage your daughter to consult the link sent to them from Mrs. Fieldhouse: Everything you need to know to prepare for the MARCH 28 ACT. Encourage her to bookmark this link for ACT practice, information about making an account to see her scores, and to access TAKING THE ACT: A STUDENT GUIDE. This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE if you have any questions.

CONGRATULATIONS ACTS ANGELS: We are so proud of the Sophomore Class of 2025 for completing their Sophomore ACTS service! The 206 members of the class of 2025 ventured out to 37 agencies each week across Louisville to make and serve meals, comfort the sick, care for small children, provide help to teachers and students, and take care of the environment. Their work amounted to well over 12,000 hours of service! We are proud of their dedication and commitment to following in the footsteps of our foundress, Catherine McAuley, to GO OUT and serve our larger community. We received messages from many of the agencies singing the praises of these wonderful students as well as expressing gratitude for the gift of this time and hard work. We look forward to celebrating this class at their ACTS closing prayer service on March 28th during LEAD and Learn time!
