Pope Francis has stated that “God’s mercy transforms human hearts; it enables us, through the experience of a faithful love, to become merciful in turn.” During this Mission Week, our students have fully experienced how to be merciful and grounded in faithful love through their Mission Week activities. They have learned that they are valuable people, that everyone has dignity and worth, and what they do and say really does make a difference! In the end, whether experiencing something as big as a mission trip or something as small as an act of kindness, our students’ hearts have grown fully and faithfully. Our hope is that they have been inspired to continue to “own their story” throughout the year – intellectually, physically, spiritually, and interpersonally. Thank you for your prayers and support of your daughters during this very special week.

Senior Mary Claire Schmidt had a dream. She envisioned an opportunity for current students to share lessons learned through pivotal experiences in a TED Talk format. When students were given the chance to provide input for what should be included during Mission Week, Mary Claire believed it could be the perfect fit for her dream. Thus, the first annual Assumption TED Talks were born. For the last few months, five students have been working with faculty members Daniel Hamm and Paula Spugnardi to develop their ideas to share as a part of Mission Week. These students modeled the theme of Mission Week, “Own Your Story,” as they shared their experiences with our community. Mary Claire emceed the forum that included a Q&A after each talk.
Many thanks to these students who inspired our community and left a lasting impression with their stories!

VIRTUAL PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT CONFERENCES: Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in order to give students and parents the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss your daughter’s progress. Due to the convenience and popularity of virtual platforms in the fall and the lower number of spring conference requests traditionally, we have chosen to offer only a virtual option this semester during our designated conference time. As always, if you would like to request an in-person meeting with your daughter’s teacher, please email the teacher to request a before- or after-school meeting. To schedule a virtual TEAMS conference with your daughter’s teacher(s), please use this link: Conference Signup. All parents are invited to sign up, but parents of students with a D or F in in a class or classes as of March 9 are required to request an appointment time. We recommend, however, that you check your daughter’s grades on PowerSchool between March 9 and March 14 to make plans to attend if needed. If you have any questions that cannot be addressed at parent/teacher/student conferences, please contact your daughter’s dean – JUDY FIELDHOUSE (students whose last names begin with A-K) or THERESA SCHUHMANN (students whose last names begin with L-Z).
IMPORTANT UPCOMING STUDENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION: In March, we will be starting the registration process for the 2023-2024 school year. Below is important information:

Once that process is complete, you will receive a verification email from BBTM with instructions on how to log in to your 2023-24 account or call them directly to make any changes (payment plan, banking information, etc.) Your registration fee will be included with your July payment. If your daughter will not be returning for the 2023-24 school year, please contact our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER. If you have any questions about your account, please contact TAMMY FINCH.

ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that Assumption does not grant excused absences for college days on days immediately before or after Spring Break. We also cannot excuse students from school for family trips and/or vacations. If you are planning to take your daughter out of school for the whole day or before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, whether to incorporate a college visit into or to get a jump start on Spring Break travel, please bear in mind that the absence will be unexcused and she will not be able to receive full credit for anything collected for a grade (including tests) in her classes while she is gone; makeup work that is completed and turned in will receive 50% of the grade earned. If your daughter becomes ill and is unable to attend school on Thursday, March 30, or Tuesday, April 11, she will need to provide a doctor’s note or have authorization from our school nurse for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Dean of Students CINDI BAUGHMAN. Full details about our attendance and absence policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer have been UPDATED. You can find these on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2023. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like STEM or Creative Arts/Design or General Summer Pre-College Programs, etc. Many applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.
AHS SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN: We are excited to announce that our 2023 summer camp schedule is now open! This year, Assumption is offering over 40 fun-filled enrichment and athletic sessions, including 13 new camps to girls and boys in grades K-9. Click here to learn more. Please contact Lauren Lega or Miranda McCarty with any questions. Please share this information with those who may be interested in summer camps at AHS!
CAMPUS STORE HOURS UDPATE: The Campus Store hours will change temporarily while our Campus Store manager is on maternity leave. The Campus Store will now be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 -3:30 p.m. through the end of the school year. This will give every student the opportunity to visit the store during her lunch block or after school. If there are more immediate needs, parents and students may contact the main office for assistance. Thank you for your flexibility in our new hours!
HIRING FOR FACILITY/MAINTENANCE TEAM AND CUSTODIAL TEAM: Parents, do you know of someone who would be a good fit for Assumption? We are hiring for our Facility/Maintenance and Custodial Teams. Full-time and part-time positions are available. Good starting pay and benefits along with a great work environment. In addition, employees receive a 50% discount off their daughter’s tuition. Please email Michael Clark, Facility Director, at Michael.Clark@ahsrockets.org for more information.

SENIORS – MOTHER/DAUGHTER BREAKFAST: Just a reminder to our seniors and their mothers or mother figures – the Mother/Daughter Breakfast is Saturday, March 25, at the Holiday Inn – Hurstbourne (1325 S Hurstbourne Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40222) from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Optional pictures will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. Please note that it’s best to arrive early for photos so that you don’t have to wait until after the breakfast to get yours. After the event, you can go online to order photos at https://shop.studioillumination.com/. We are planning on you and your daughter attending, but if a conflict makes this impossible, please let MARY ANN STEUTERMANN know by March 15 if you are NOT able to attend.

JUNIOR PROM: The Junior Prom will be held on Saturday, April 15, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the Assumption gym. The junior class moderators and class officers have been hard at work in the process of planning the details for the big semiformal event, and many juniors have already started shopping for the dance. With this in mind, our dean of students, Cindi Baughman, visited junior class meetings twice this week to review information about our dress code for dances with the students and answer any general questions they might have; she also emailed information about the dress code for the dance to all the juniors. That information is linked here: DANCE DRESS CODE INFORMATION FOR JUNIOR PROM. Please take a few minutes to look it over and then to discuss with your daughter so you can help her know what is expected as she is deciding what to wear to the event—as you will see in the information, Mrs. Baughman recommends that they ask parents for advice in following the guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with information about the theme and ticket details in a class meeting and with reminder emails and announcements.
