Director of Mission Effectiveness – Mary Ann Steutermann
The community of Assumption wishes all of our families a blessed Easter. May we share together in this Easter prayer on Sunday:
Good and gracious God,
We praise you and thank you for the gift of new life in the Risen Jesus.
May we be like the women at the empty tomb and the disciples on the road to Emmaus
who welcome Christ into our homes and hearts even when we are confused or afraid.
Help us to be open to the Paschal Mystery at work in our own lives
so that we may truly be people of the Resurrection.
Amen.

To keep our families informed of the impact of COVID on our school, we continue reporting our positive COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.
- This week, (reporting from Thursday 3/31 (prior to Spring Break) to Thursday 4/14/22); AHS had 4 new positive COVID cases – 3 students and 1 faculty/staff member.
- Since the start of this semester, AHS has had 210 positive COVID cases. 185 were students and 25 were faculty/staff.
Mask Mandate: Based on our current Covid numbers and declining cases in the greater community, AHS will remain mask optional until further notice including on buses and vans.

This morning we gathered as a community to bear witness to Jesus’ sacrifice as we prayed the Stations of the Cross together on Good Friday. Through a silent prayer service with interpretation of the stations, our students reflected on questions provided through music and prayer. Thank you to our student actresses, our bell choir, singers, and Mr. Armstrong for playing the bagpipes.

EASTER MONDAY: School will be closed on Monday, April 18, for Easter Monday.
NATIONAL ACT FOR JUNIORS: All juniors will be taking a National ACT on Tuesday, April 19. Juniors will not attend any of their classes on this day and will be dismissed at approximately 1:35 p.m. This test is offered at no additional cost to our families and can be used to send to colleges and universities. Please encourage your daughter to continue to complete practice questions this weekend and help her remember to eat a good breakfast, check her calculator battery, and to bring her favorite #2 pencil on Tuesday.

PARENT PRAYER Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!
PARENT PRAYER – PINK & WHITE EDITION: Each year before the Pink & White Game, the parents of Catholic high school students come together for a joint prayer service. Please join us for this year’s Parent Prayer on Thursday, April 28, at 8:30 a.m. in the AHS chapel. And those who usually come to our own AHS Parent Prayer on Tuesdays, please be aware that we will NOT meet on April 26 since the special service is on April 28.
COLLECTION FOR UKRAINE RELIEF: Compassion inspires at Assumption! On the day before Spring Break, AHS held a dress-down day to collect money for relief efforts for the people of Ukraine. We raised a record total of $3,760! This money is being donated to Catholic Relief Services for their work specifically for the people of Ukraine.

This week during LEAD & Learn Time, classes participated in a variety of activities! Freshmen, sophomores, and seniors each had the opportunity on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to practice their traditional class bleacher dance in the gym in preparation for the return of our bleacher dance competition at next week’s spring sports pep rally. Juniors will practice their bleacher dance after the national ACT and prior to their early dismissal next Tuesday. During homeroom, all students had the opportunity to hear about an opportunity to engage with the community by supporting the Rose Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Les Mis. Additionally, juniors received direction on materials preparation for the upcoming national ACT while in homeroom and in class meeting shared test-taking strategies in advance of the ACT. Seniors were in class meeting on Tuesday where they received direction about their upcoming senior end-of-the-year and graduation activities.
Next week during Tuesday’s LEAD & Learn Time, all students will receive information to prepare them to engage in the return of our first Family Olympics since 2019. On Thursday, April 21, all families will compete in Family Council-sponsored Olympics event from 12:50-3:00 p.m. Families will participate in a series of activities which will serve to strengthen family bonds and promote friendly, inter-family competition. The event will begin with pre-competition bonding as homerooms eat together in homeroom prior to the event. Students will receive information about how to order lunch through FLIK that day if they would like to do so. Lunch must be ordered by 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Olympic activities after lunch will include an opening ceremony, Olympic-style games, and finally, a closing competition in the gym at the end of the day. Additionally, students are encouraged to wear a family t-shirt OR a t-shirt in their family color WITH their uniform skirts. May the best family win!

ACT TEST PREP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep, an innovative test training program that cracks the code on improving ACT scores. TorchPrep has continually yielded outstanding ACT scores for our students. Last year, Assumption students who participated in TorchPrep saw an average score increase of 2.2 points. All courses include 30 hours of direct training, four full-length simulated tests, TorchPrep training manual, customized study plan, and guaranteed results. The training program will take place at Assumption June 6 – 11 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Early registration deadline is May 30. More information about programs, registration, and fees can be found at www.torchprep.com.
PINK AND WHITE GAME: The fifteenth annual Pink and White Game will be held at Saint Xavier High School on Thursday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Students may purchase tickets during lunches in the cafeteria the week of April 25; tickets are $10.00. Assumption, Sacred Heart, St. X, and Trinity each receive a ticket allotment to sell to their communities. We are encouraging students to arrange with their family and friends at St. X, Trinity, and Sacred Heart to buy their tickets at their own schools. In order to ensure that all students have the opportunity to buy a ticket from Assumption’s allotted tickets, on Monday, April 25, each student may buy only one ticket for herself. For the remainder of the weeks, students may buy a maximum of two tickets per day. Tickets will be sold to students only. There will be no outside sales. Please note: All schools have agreed that there will be no tailgating at this event, and we highly encourage carpooling to the game!
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING MUSICAL: The beloved musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s literary masterpiece, Les Misérables, is coming to Assumption April 22, 23, 27, and 30 at 7 p.m. and April 24 and May 1 at 2 p.m. Set in 19th century France after the first French Revolution, Les Misérables weaves together the stories of downtrodden men and women who cling to their dreams in the face of injustice and social upheaval: a former convict chooses redemption, a mother ensures her daughter’s survival, and a group of students rally for the world they long to see. These timeless characters offer Hugo’s vision about grace and justice, poverty and revolution, love and hope, assuring audiences that even in a weary world, “tomorrow comes.” Tickets are available at www.showtix.com. You can use this link or go to Showtix and search for Assumption. If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact Colleen Murphy at colleen.murphy@ahsrockets.org.

FINAL DEADLINE FOR LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! In order to have the most accurate information for our senior class, we ask them to submit a copy of their college acceptance letters, honors program acceptance letters, and scholarship offers. Your daughters have heard this reminder at class meetings and received the reminder via email numerous times. We wanted to make sure that you were aware of the expectation that seniors submit a copy of all college admission acceptance letters, admission into honors colleges and special programs, as well as scholarship offers to the Guidance Office. This submission can be in paper form, or students may also forward their letters to college.letters@ahsrockets.org Although the deadline has passed, we will still accept the paper copies until FRIDAY, APRIL 22. After that time, our materials used at the Senior Honors Ceremony will be prepared for printing and we will not be able to make any further changes.
