Parents should park in the AHS lot in a visitor space or in any open space. REMINDERS FROM THE REGISTRAR:
- CLASS OF 2021 INFORMATION CONFIRMATION MAILING: Parents of the Class of 2021: On October 13, a letter was mailed to your home with important information about your daughter’s legal name. It contained a form asking for confirmation of the spelling/accuracy of your daughter’s name for official graduation documents and programs. It was due in the school office by Friday, November 6. Even if no changes need to be made, please make sure to return a signed copy to the main office ASAP.
UPCOMING CLUB OPPORTUNITIES: Clubs are in full swing in November! Be sure to ask you daughter to take some time to check out the upcoming club meetings that are posted regularly on the website calendar linked here: https://www.ahsrockets.org/events/event/
LEAD & LEARN WEDNESDAY UPDATE: After successfully using our LEAD & Learn Days in October to facilitate standardized testing opportunities for our students, this Wednesday we again turned our LEAD & Learn Day focus to addressing the whole person development and social, emotional and spiritual learning needs of our students with our scheduled activities. All classes not only participated in class meetings during which they learned about how they could support this year’s Open House but also had additional planned activities designed to meet these needs. Freshmen had the opportunity to participate in Heart2Heart meetings facilitated by senior retreat leaders. Sophomores engaged in their sophomore ACTS retreat to prepare to begin their virtual ACTS service next week. Juniors choosing an alternative junior ACTS service option had the chance to engage in a meeting with seniors to facilitate this project.
Additionally, after spending September and October establishing and honing our Healthy At Assumption routines as a community, we were ready to use the protocols to offer a supervise, physically-distanced in-person activity for all seniors and sophomores, allowing them the opportunity to meet in-person with their classes. Seniors were invited to gather in the gym for a “Nothing But Love for our Seniors” themed class meeting followed by activities planned by their class officers which was also offered via Teams. Sophomores met at the Assumption Green for an hour of Games and Gratitude which included activities planned by their class officers as well. Next week, juniors will have the opportunity to meet at Assumption for a trivia contest planned by their class officers with the option to participate virtually and freshmen will get to participate in their own Games and Gratitude activities at the Green facilitated by senior leaders from each of their families. This year more than ever we recognize the chance to be together is truly a gift and we hope the sophomores and seniors who participated in-person in these activities enjoyed them as much as we did. We look forward to being with the freshmen and juniors next week.
PARENT SURVEY: If you haven’t already, please take a moment to complete our Parent Survey on our Hybrid Learning Model that was emailed on Monday. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to using this information to ensure the effectiveness of our hybrid schedule. Please note that all questions asking for comments or recommendations are optional. Please complete this survey by Monday, November 9: PARENT SURVEY ON HYBRID LEARNING MODEL
ACT SCORES – A Message for Parents of Juniors and Seniors who took the October 6 Test at Assumption High School: Your daughter received an email on Thursday afternoon from our registrar, Kathy Fleischer. This email contained your daughter’s uniquely assigned ACT ID number and a link to this supplement which will help her create an account on MyACT.org. We expect most students to be able to see their scores here. If she cannot, have your daughter contact Judy.Fieldhouse@ahsrockets.org on Monday; she should have access to their scores by that time. If your daughter is having trouble creating an account or accessing her scores, or if she created an account without using her ACT ID number, please check out the FAQS or contact ACT Customer Care at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/contact-act.html for assistance.
ROCKET RAFFLE AND WALK FOR ASSUMPTION: This year The Walk for Assumption (which typically takes place in September) will take place in April 2021! The WALK is our largest fundraising event that our students participate in each year, and it is connected to our Annual Rocket Spectacular, which will take place virtually this year on Saturday, January 30, 2021 (more details to come).
How are the Walk for Assumption and the Rocket Spectacular connected? Through the Rocket Raffle. In order to participate in the Walk for Assumption, students must sell a minimum of three Rocket Raffle tickets. Tickets cost $25 each, and the purchaser is entered into a drawing for $20,000, which will take place at our Rocket Spectacular on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Students who turn in a minimum of three tickets will receive a Walk for AHS T-shirt before we walk in the spring and will be eligible for great incentives in the weeks before Christmas break.
Tickets may be purchased online. More information will be shared with students about this. Paper tickets will be distributed to the Blue Cohort on Friday, November 13 and to the Maroon Cohort on Monday, November 16. Tickets for the Pink Cohort will be mailed home Thursday, November 12.
The deadline for ticket sales is Tuesday, December 1 for the Maroon Cohort and Thursday, December 3 for the Blue Cohort. Tickets will be collected in study hall on hybrid students’ in-person days of instruction. Collection information will be provided to Pink Cohort students.
As we look forward to the Walk in the spring, the Family Council has a great theme and great T-shirts planned. But as a community, the best part of this fun event is coming together! We ask all students to be a part of this effort to support each other. More than 225 students currently receive financial assistance at Assumption and there are always circumstances that arise in which we may need to help another student. The exciting journey through the Assumption adventure begins with a single step, and there is no better way to get ready for this great Assumption tradition than by helping your daughter sell her Rocket Raffle Tickets! If you have any questions, please contact Tricia Ferree tricia.ferree@ahsrockets.org.

COMPETITIVE SUMMER PROGRAMS: Parents of juniors interested in applying for the Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP): All juniors were sent a narrated PowerPoint last week covering the program’s purpose and application process. Students were also invited to attend one of two virtual Q&A meetings on September 30 and October 1. These virtual meetings held on Teams provided students the chance to ask questions about the information covered in the PowerPoint. Applications are due to the Guidance Office the week of November 9. Due dates are dependent on a student’s cohort: Maroon Cohort – due Tuesday, November 10, by 8:25 a.m.; Blue Cohort – due Thursday, November 12 by 8:25 a.m. Any student in the All Virtual/Pink Cohortneeds to contact kelly.kirwan@ahsrockets.org to schedule a drop-off by Thursday, November 12, by 8:25 a.m. Click on GSP POWERPOINT and TIMELINE to access the information shared with students. Please contact KELLY KIRWAN regarding any questions about the application.
ROSE THEATRE PRODUCTION: The remaining performances for the Rose Theatre Company’s outdoor production of Spoon River Project based on the work of Edgar Lee Masters are November 6 and November 7 at 7:00 p.m. We are pleased to announce that Rose Theatre’s fall production will take place at Historic Farmington’s Brand Pavilion, just down the road from Assumption! Tickets are available now through Showtix4u at https://www.showtix4u.com/events/1128. Spoon River Project tells the story of a small town through a series of monologues delivered by deceased town members coming back from the dead to share their stories. The play, set in a fictional graveyard in the town of Spoon River, was able to be rehearsed remotely for much of the process. The event will be an outdoor production. Seating is socially distanced, and masks will be worn at all times. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are nonrefundable but fully transferable. If you need assistance with accessibility or have questions, contact Colleen Murphy at colleen.murphy@ahsrockets.org.
OPEN HOUSE 2020: We will be hosting an in-person Open House on Saturday, November 14 for eighth graders and their families. Registration is available online and families will follow all Healthy at Assumption protocols. While it will look much different this year, we are excited to offer this opportunity before future Rockets make their high school decision in December. As a valuable part of the Assumption community, we ask you to personally invite any prospective eighth grader and her family to Open House. Thank you, in advance, for your continued support!
MAIN OFFICE AVAILABILITY: To adhere to state mandates in response to COVID-19 and to continue to keep our entire community safe and healthy, we are continuing to recommend that parents email or mail any school-related items instead of dropping them off at school. Assumption’s Main Office is open from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. In line with Assumption’s Reopening and Learning Plan, visitors to the school will continue to be limited. Any visitor who has an appointment requiring them to come into the building should come to the Tyler Lane door, ring the buzzer, and will be met there. Visitors must wear a mask, undergo a temperature scan, and complete a health screening before entering the building. Please feel free to contact Amy Schelb at 502-458-9551, option 0, or email at amy.schelb@ahsrockets.org for questions regarding the above or if you need assistance during this time.
Gratefully,
Martha Tedesco
