Assumption High School Breaks Ground to Build Indoor Softball Center
Assumption Athletics hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on September 19 at the Assumption Green announcing the construction of an indoor softball facility. As part of the Sports and Education Complex located at 4500 Champions Trace, this facility will provide the opportunity for softball players to train year-round. Assumption is the first all-girls school to have a facility dedicated specifically for softball.

Having a state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor field that softball players in the area can utilize will be helpful to our current and future students. The nearly 5,000 square foot Assumption Indoor Softball Center will include a bullpen, locker room, batting cages, dugout, office, and restrooms.
Coach Lisa Pinkston, who is in her fifth year as head coach, shares, “I have fought a battle my entire life of people only wanting to invest in boys. We should be very excited and proud of this for our girls.” The Assumption softball program has grown tremendously since the hire of Lisa Pinkston. In her first season, the team only won 12 games; now they’re making it to regional finals. Over the past few years, the team has been traveling across the city and relying on other facilities to train throughout the winter. Having an on-campus facility provides consistency for players closer to home.
Sabrina Fusseneger ’16 currently plays softball for Bellarmine University. Sabrina shares, “This facility speaks volumes for the success of past and future Assumption teams that will be able to train and develop. The ability to practice year-round has been a dream for past and present coaches.”
The future of Assumption Softball is here and ready to flourish. Junior player Olivia Pastin shares, “Coach Pinkston and my teammates have worked so hard to improve the program not only during the season, but also in the off season. Assumption Softball has come so far in the past few years, and I believe it will continue to grow.” For Olivia, the facility will be a vital part of the team’s success. “I am so excited to see the facility when it is completed because I truly believe that it will make us better players and will help us prepare for the 2020 season.”
