Three Seniors Recognized by National Merit Corp.

Assumption senior Emma Bartley has been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a National Merit Semi-finalist for her excellent score on the PSAT. Additionally, seniors Lydia Cardwell and Rachel Woods have been recognized as National Merit Commended students for their excellent scores as well.Emma Bartley has been recently recognized for her perfect score on her ACT.
Emma is a McAuley Scholar, received the George Washington University Book Award, on the Principal’s List, and is an AP Scholar with Distinction. She was named the junior class Model of Mercy in 2017 and received the National Catholic Education Association Youth Virtues, Vision, and Valor Award for developing Compassion Connections, a school-wide initiative designed to connect Assumption students with local service agencies. She has also developed P.A.V.E. the Way (www.she-is-fierce.org/pave), which is a program in which AHS students mentor refugee teens through the college application process. In addition to her recognition by the National Merit Corp., Lydia is in the top 5% of her senior class at Assumption. She has been on Honor Roll all four years, is a member of the National Honor Society, is a Distinguished Scholar, an AP Scholar and a McAuley Scholar. She has been recognized for several honors such as the University of Virginia Book Award, Ohio Summer Law and Trial Institute, Wilson Wyatt Debate League Scholarship recipient and Louisville Collegiate Merit Scholarship. Lydia is incredibly involved at Assumption and in her community. She is the Co-President of the Spanish National Honor Society, Assumption Debate LD Squad Leader, member of St. Joseph of Arimathea Society, Beta Club, Math League and Peer Leader. Outside of Assumption, Lydia is the YMCA Leadership Club President, a YMCA Day Camp Group Leader, a Borgen Project Writing Intern and gives back to the Southeast YMCA. We are extremely proud of all that Lydia does to enhance the lives of those in the community of Louisville.
Senior Rachel Woods is also making an impact with all the honors she has received over the years. As an incoming freshman, she was a recipient of the High School Placement Test Scholarship, given to the top 10 students who take the placement test. Rachel is a McAuley Scholar, AP Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and attended the Governor’s Scholars Program at Morehead State University. She has been involved at Assumption as a Cheerleader for all four years, receiving the Varsity Scholar Athlete Award, All-American Award, a Varsity Letter and is the Cheer Captain for 2018-2019. She has been a Peer Leader, an Assumption Ambassador, Mu Alpha Theta Vice President and Summer Seminar Leader. Rachel is involved in Mu Alpha Theta, She-is-fierce.org, Rose Window Magazine Staff, Spanish Scrabble Club and Beta Club. She also gives back by donating her time at His Kids Academy and the Kid’s Café.
