Assumption’s innovative mindfulness program aims to ease student anxiety and optimize learning
In 2005, AHS was one of only 12 schools in the United States to earn the “Innovations in Education” award. This spirit of innovation has led Assumption to be the first Catholic high school to implement a school-wide mindfulness program.
Brain science research has shown that mindfulness training improves attention, helps regulate emotions, creates changes int he brain to lessen reactivity, and enhances one’s ability to engage in tasks even when emotions are activated. In the summer of 2014, the mindfulness program was launched at Assumption.
Every morning before school starts, students begin the day with a minute of mindfulness that leads into our school prayer.
The program’s goal is to help students center, focus inwardly, and calm themselves so as to begin their day on a positive note.
