Rocket Report – Friday, November 19, 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians,
On Saturday, we had a very successful and well attended Open House for prospective students and their families. We are so grateful to everyone in our community who assisted on Saturday especially our amazing student workers, parent volunteers, faculty, and staff as well as all of those who kept Assumption in your thoughts and prayers this past weekend. During this Thanksgiving season, we are especially thankful for the Community of Assumption!
HEALTHY AT SCHOOL: To keep our families informed of our COVID cases on campus, we will continue reporting our COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.
- Since the start of the school year, we have had 35 total COVID cases.
- This week (reporting since 11/12/2021) there were no new COVID cases. That makes the fourth week in a row that AHS has had no reported cases.
Leaders from our area Catholic high schools are continuing to meet with the Archdiocese to discuss plans for moving to a mask optional policy as well as other healthy at school protocols. We will update our community with more details as we have them. We remain grateful to our families for all their understanding and support during this time.
CALENDAR NOTES:
- CANSTRUCTION: The can collection for Canstruction on Monday, November 22, is in full swing. Please encourage your daughter to help fight hunger in the Louisville community by bringing in canned goods for Dare to Care between now and November 22.
- THANKSGIVING HOLIDAYS: Assumption will close for Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 24 – Friday, November 26.
- 12:30 DISMISSAL DAY: Friday, December 3, will be a 12:30 dismissal day so that faculty and staff can attend a special professional development session on adolescents and anxiety caused by the continued pandemic. After-school supervision will not be provided, so please make arrangements for your daughters to be picked up by 12:45 p.m.
CAMPUS MINISTRY:
- ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30 -9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends, and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!
ALERT SYSTEM TEST: We sent a test weather and emergency alert on Tuesday, November 16, at 5:00 p.m. All parents who set their options in PowerSchool were sent a test message to their email and/or phone via text or voice. If you did not receive the message as you expected, please check your options by logging into PowerSchool or email Brent Miller in our IT Department or call his office at 271-2527 for assistance.
FINANCIAL AID FORM: The financial aid link for 2022-2023 has been added to the school’s website. The due date is January 31, 2022, and the form must be submitted online to FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION LINK. As a reminder, you are required to file every year to receive assistance.
YEARBOOK SENIOR TRIBUTES – Attention, parents of seniors: Just a reminder that submissions for “Senior Tributes” for the Rosecast (the yearbook) are due by Tuesday, November 23. If they are not submitted by November 23, there is a $10 late fee until Christmas Break, and after that a $20 late fee until Spring Break. After Spring Break we will not be able to accept any more submissions. Parents and guardians received a letter with directions as well as a contract on October 1 via email. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Katie Culver at katie.culver@ahsrockets.org.
THANKSGIVING LUNCH: On Tuesday, November 23, FLIK will serve a traditional Thanksgiving lunch both as a fixed price meal and a la carte. The lunch menu will be sliced turkey and dressing with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a dinner roll. The fixed price is $8.00, and the a la carte prices are $4.25 for turkey and $1.50 per side. Dessert is $2. In addition, several but limited options will be offered through our deli, pasta, and grab and go bars for those students who prefer something other than the Thanksgiving lunch menu.
DUAL CREDIT TUITION DUE TO WKU, JCTC, AND UL: Students enrolled in a dual credit class this semester need to make sure they pay any tuition owed by the beginning of December. Students should log into their accounts on www.KHEAA.com to double check which colleges they chose for disbursement for the Dual Credit Scholarship and then need to log into their JCTC, WKU, and/or UL account to pay any remaining tuition due for this semester. This includes all first semester and yearlong DC courses except for PreCalculus and Calculus, which will register for credit in January. If you need help knowing which course is associated with which university, consult this sheet from our website: Dual Credit Information 2021 – 2022. If you have any questions, contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE .
LEAD & LEARN UPDATE: During LEAD & Learn Time this week, students had the opportunity to engage with their homeroom family and classes in class meetings on Tuesday and Thursday and then gave thanks for the value of friendship in homeroom on Friday. Next week, we will engage with gratitude in our work to give to others through our Canstruction event on Monday and our Thanksgiving prayer service on Tuesday.
NEWS FROM THE ROCKET PARENT NETWORK (RPN): In pre-Covid times, RPN hosted an annual Mother/Daughter Bunco event in the fall of each year. While we were unable to host Mother/Daughter Bunco this year due to the proximity in which bunco players typically sit, we have a fun alternate event planned for this year. We are excited to invite all Assumption moms and daughters to join us this year for an ornament exchange. We hope that you can join us on Thursday, December 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the AHS cafeteria for a time to get together with other Assumption moms and students, enjoy some desserts, and get into the holiday spirit by exchanging ornaments with other AHS moms. This is a free event, and each family needs to bring only one ornament for the exchange. If you would like to attend this event, please take this very short two-question survey:
ASSUMPTION PARENT ORGANIZATION (APO) NEWS – ROCKET SPECTACULAR SPONSOR OPPORTUNITIES: We are excited for our 41st annual Rocket Spectacular Benefit Dinner and Auction on Saturday, January 29, 2022. All proceeds benefit the financial needs of our students, and there are many ways you can support this effort! Donations Needed: We are currently collecting donations for our live and silent auction.
