Rocket Report – Friday, August 13, 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The beginning of the 2021-2022 school year has been an energizing one! It has been wonderful to have our faculty, staff, and students return to the building refreshed and ready to start another year. Additionally, it has been a joy to share our new expansion with students and to see their excitement at the many wonderful ways the changes to our facility will improve their daily experience. As we celebrated this special new beginning for the Assumption community, our student leaders were eager to introduce the school theme for this year which is, very appropriately, “Unlock New Doors.” As they helped us reflect upon the opportunities that lie ahead this year, our class officers, Family Council members and homeroom moms reminded us all that each of us has the potential to “be the key” to making this year one of the best in Assumption history. Watching our students these last two days, we are confident that they can do just that!
HEALTHY AT SCHOOL: To support the health and safety of our entire school community, we ask that students who are exhibiting any COVID-like symptoms stay home and follow up with their health care practitioner. In addition, our school nurse, Laura Burnam, should be notified. Mrs. Burnam can be reached at laura.burnam@ahsrockets.org or 271-2507.
We continue to recommend that students get vaccinated. While the COVID vaccine is not mandatory, we are encouraging students to be vaccinated not just to avoid the possibility of catching and spreading COVID but also to avoid the real risk of frequent quarantines. We have already experienced first-hand that effects of a COVID positive case with a number of individuals being identified as close contacts. Vaccinated students avoided quarantine and were allowed to attend school and participate in athletics and other events while those who were unvaccinated had to quarantine and miss the first days of school and other activities.
With all of us working together, we can hopefully reduce the risk of COVID transmission and quarantine within our school and maintain full in-person learning for the benefit of our students.
TRAFFIC FLOW REMINDERS: Thank you for your patience and cooperation in the carpool drop off/pick up line this week. There is always a learning curve for all of us on the first few days! If you haven’t already, please be sure to review the CARPOOL AND TRAFFIC FLOW INFORMATION & MAP. Important Note: vehicles may not queue on the paved shoulder along Bardstown Road in front of AHS. Per our new binding elements with the Planning and Zoning Commission, the shoulder is not to be used as a turning lane nor as a waiting area for vehicles prior to entering the carpool lane on campus. Please help us with this.

Students should keep an eye out for an email with information on registering for sophomore, junior and senior retreats and for freshman retreat assignments with their family homerooms.
BEGINNING OF THE YEAR FORMS:
- YELLOW STUDENT INFORMATION FORMS: Your daughters were given a yellow personalized student information form in homeroom Thursday morning. Please check with her if you have not seen this form as you will need to review the information we have on file for your daughter regarding contacts, phone numbers, email address, and home address. A parent or guardian will need to make any updates or corrections, sign it, and have your daughter sign it. She can turn it into homeroom or the main office. It is due to the main office by Friday, August 20.
- HANDBOOK AGREEMENT FORM: If you haven’t already, please take time to review handbook: STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK 2021-2022. Your daughter will be asking you to sign a Student-Parent Handbook Agreement Form verifying that you have read and agree to be governed by the rules and policies in the handbook. The printed form is on the first page of her Student Planner and must be signed by both the parent and student and returned to your daughter’s homeroom teacher by Friday, August 20.
- OTHER BACK-TO-SCHOOL FORMS & INFORMATION: Please be sure to complete the forms that were mentioned in the summer back-to-school mailing. This information can be found on our website HERE.
UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT COPY: If your daughter is a returning AHS Student (class of 2022, 2023 or 2024), an unofficial copy of her transcript was emailed to you last Friday, August 6. It required your daughter’s student number to access and will be available for 30 days from August 6 before the link expires. Official and unofficial copies of this document will be sent to colleges, universities, scholarship committees, and athletic departments at her request during her junior and senior years. Please take this opportunity to review your daughter’s current transcript with her. Also note, if we do not have a copy of her social security card (the number is listed at the top of the transcript) she will not be eligible for KEES scholarship opportunities offered by the state of Kentucky. Copies of your daughter’s social security card may be emailed to records@ahsrockets.org or mailed to the Assumption main office, attention: Registrar.
DROP/ADD DEADLINE: Our drop/add period for classes ends on Tuesday, August 24. If you or your daughter has questions about her schedule, please contact the appropriate dean of studies: Student Last Name A-K: JUDY FIELDHOUSE, Student Last Name L-Z: THERESA SCHUHMANN

TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION:
- PARENT POWERSCHOOL AND LMS CREDENTIALS: Parent usernames in PowerSchool for the 2021-22 school year will be synced with our PowerSchool Learning Management site, also called the LMS. This will allow parents to use the same username in both portals and not need to set up an LMS account since the system is setting it up for you.
- PowerSchool is where you will find your daughter’s grades and teacher comments.
- The LMS is where her teachers will post each class’s agenda, assignments, upcoming tests, and due dates.
- MONITOR AND MANAGE YOUR DAUGHTER’S TABLET PC: Be on the lookout in the next couple of weeks for information about apParent, a mobile app available to you at no cost so you can monitor and manage your daughter’s school-issued tablet PC after school hours. This app, if you want to install it, will allow you to view your daughter’s device screen, lock your daughter’s device with a custom message and view 24 hours of your child’s web browsing history. Your daughters’ teachers can control their computers from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. You can use the app outside of those hours on school days and all day on weekends and holidays.
COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT FOR SENIORS AND PARENTS: Leigh Jackson and Kimberly Habich, college counselors, will be visiting every senior English class August 23 through August 30. Our counselors will provide detailed information about the college application process to every senior. To further assist seniors and their parents with the college process, there will be a college information night for all seniors and parents on Wednesday, September 1, at 6:30 p.m. via ZOOM. The link for the program will be sent out prior to the event. Admission representatives from a variety of colleges and universities will discuss the college application process. This panel will provide helpful hints and advice to seniors as they begin their own college process. If you have any questions, please contact LEIGH JACKSON.
ATHLETICS: Please join us at The Assumption Green for field hockey and soccer games, at the gym for our volleyball home games, and at the courses for our cross country meets and golf matches.
