Dear Parents,

We happily welcomed the Class of 2024 at registration last night. They were so excited to officially become Assumption Rockets.  Thank you for your support and prayers as we worked to recruit a healthy class of incoming freshmen who will continue to carry on the tradition of an Assumption High School Catholic education.

CALENDAR NOTES:

  • FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students— freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Tickets may be purchased at the door for $25. The dance theme is “March Madness” and is basketball inspired! Guests are invited to dress for the theme, but of course, themed attire is not required.  Music will be provided by the band Famous on Friday. PHOTO PACKAGE:  If you plan to buy a photo package at the Father-Daughter Dance, please use the link below to decide on your package and pay for it ahead of time. At the dance, just come to the camera and give your name–no waiting and no forms to fill out!  You will still have the opportunity to order a photo package at the dance if you choose, but this one step will make it go faster so you can spend more time enjoying the event. • PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT CONFERENCES:  Spring conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 12, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to give students and parents the opportunity to meet with teachers about students’ progress.  All parents are invited to attend, but parents of students with a D or F in in a class or classes as of March 12, the date of the conferences, are required to attend. As we return from Mission Week, teachers will have updated grades as of March 2 and again March 12.  We recommend that you check your daughter’s grades on PowerSchool between now and Thursday, March 12, in order to make plans to attend.   No appointment is necessary.  If you have any questions that cannot be addressed at Parent/Teacher/Student conferences, please contact your daughter’s dean – JUDY FIELDHOUSE (students whose last names begin with A-K) or THERESA SCHUHMANN (students whose last names begin with L-Z).

CAMPUS MINISTRY:

  • The Parent Prayer group meets each Tuesday morning from 8:00-8:30 a.m. in the chapel at St. Catherine’s Convent, which is right across Tyler Lane from AHS.  Just look for the sign! If you are unable to attend but would like them to pray for a particular intention, please email it to our campus minister MARY ANN STEUTERMANN. We hope you find comfort in knowing that we are praying for your intention even if you can’t be present.

2020-2021 SCHOOL CALENDAR:  We are in the process of working on the 2020-2021 school calendar.  Although we have not finalized the calendar, we recognize that our families may need general calendar information in advance.  In order to help with this need, the tentative key calendar dates for 2020-2021 are posted on our website through this link: IMPORTANT DATES FOR 2020-2021 SCHOOL CALENDAR

PREVENTION ASSEMBLY 2020:  Our annual prevention assembly will be held on Tuesday, March 10. Our students will hear from a rotation of speakers on the topics of vaping, mental health and addiction, and alcoholism.  Our Peer Leaders will follow the presentation with two days of prevention-related activities during RocketTime, which will include information on vaping/e-cigarettes and addiction.  While we have prevention programs running year-round, we wanted to highlight this special student prevention program planned for March.

REAL. WOMEN. CARE.  The week of March 9-13 is the International Week of the Woman, and at Assumption, we are celebrating all week long the fact that Real. Women. Care.  As part of our Compassion Connections program, each AHS family is aligned with a service agency.  We will have a dress-down day on Friday, March 13, for a minimum donation of $3, and the proceeds will go to the nine agencies we support.  But that’s not all!  We will also “connect in compassion” by donating gently used jeans to homeless teens, making cards for veterans at the VA hospital, and advocating in support of marginalized women and Mother Earth.  If you would like to participate, feel free to send in any used jeans throughout the week or a monetary donation on Friday.  Together with our students, we can show that Real. Women. Care.

DIGITAL SAFETY MONTH:  March is Digital Safety Month at Assumption!  Each class will learn about a different topic in their class meetings.  Some areas of focus will be cyberbullying, the dangers of sexting, and the dangers of texting and driving. Our juniors will have a special guest come and discuss social media and positive digital branding.  Check out our DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP AND RESPONSIBLE SOCIAL MEDIA USE from our guidance department for parent resources on digital safety!

BLOODMOBILE:  On Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17, the National Honor Society will be hosting the Bloodmobile sponsored by the Red Cross from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Assumption.  Students, parents, faculty, and staff are invited to give. Parents, please ask your daughter if she is signed up to give. If she is, please make sure that she eats a good dinner the night before and a good breakfast the morning prior to her donation. The Red Cross also recommends that donors drink a lot of water to stay hydrated both before and after donating.  We have some openings available and would like to invite parents to donate. If you would like to donate on behalf of Assumption on March 16 or 17, you may sign up via an online scheduling system through the Red Cross. You will need to sign up for an account if you have not done so before. Use this link SIGN UP HERE. If you have never given blood, this is a wonderful way that you can make a difference.  Thank you for considering!

SENIORS – MOTHER/DAUGHTER BREAKFAST: Just a reminder to our seniors and their mothers or mother figures in their lives – the Mother/Daughter Breakfast is Saturday, March 21, at the Marriott East (1903 Embassy Square Blvd) from 9:30-11:30 a.m.  Optional pictures will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. Please note that it’s best to arrive early for photos so that you don’t have to wait until after the breakfast to get yours.  There is also an option to purchase pictures online via email, which can save time waiting in link.  If your daughter hasn’t already, please let MARY ANN STEUTERMANN  know by March 16 if you are NOT able to attend.

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT: All parents are invited to attend our College Scholarship Night on Monday, March 23, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the theater. There will be different colleges represented for a panel discussion about college scholarships aimed at helping juniors and even sophomores understand what colleges are looking for in a strong scholarship candidate. If you have any questions, please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH, our college counselors.

SENIOR CITIZEN PROM:  Assumption High School’s Junior Class Beta Club members will be hosting “Senior Prom: Roaring Twenties” for senior citizens at Assumption High School on Saturday, March 14, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Assumption gym.  There will be plenty of food and delicious desserts prepared by the Junior Class Beta club.  There will also be live music played by The Prime Time Band(with horn) enjoyed by the senior citizens.  There is no cost, but we have limited seating.  We ask that guests call in advance to reserve their place:  Terry Langley or Erica Lasley at 271-2531.  Please share with any interested senior citizens!
