Dear Parents,

Yesterday we had students share with the student body the importance of leaving the legacy of Assumption to our future Rockets.  We were reminded that we are all recruiters for Assumption!  Additionally, one student shared how Open House completely altered her high school decision – the people she encountered and the “glow” from our community were the reason she chose Assumption as her high school.  Today, we ask you, our parents, to continue this legacy by personally inviting a prospective family to our Open House on Thursday, December 5, at 6:30 p.m.  Thank you, in advance, for your continued support!

CALENDAR NOTE:

  • CANSTRUCTION:  The can collection for Canstruction on Monday, November 25, is in full swing.  Please encourage your daughter to help fight hunger in the Louisville community by bringing in canned goods for Dare to Care between now and November 25.
  • THANKSGIVING HOLIDAYS:  Thanksgiving is only two weeks away!  Please note: Assumption will close for Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 27 – Friday, November 29.

CAMPUS MINISTRY:

  • PARENT PRAYER:  There will not be parent prayer on Tuesday, November 26.
  • THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION:  On Tuesday, November 26, we will have our Thanksgiving Celebration assembly at 10:15 a.m. in the gym.  Please join us for this special program where we stop and thank those people who are so special in our lives.

ALL SCHOOL SEMI-FORMAL DANCE:  On Saturday, November 23, the junior class is hosting an All-School Dance from 8:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.  Every student and her guest must have a ticket that was purchased in advance.  Tickets will not be sold at the door. Students have received information about dance rules and expectations via SharePoint, email, and morning announcements.  In order to ensure student safety, all students and guests must arrive by 9:00 p.m. and may not leave until 11:00 p.m.  All students will be monitored with the use of a passive alcohol sensor upon arrival and departure of the dance.

THANK YOU AND A REMINDER: DRESS CODE FOR DANCES AND SATURDAY’S ALL-SCHOOL SEMI FORMAL DANCE/JUNIOR PROM: Many and sincere thanks to all of you who have worked with your daughters to help them understand what it means to dress “appropriately” for a Catholic high school dance. Literally hundreds of students have asked us to check to make sure their dresses will work for Saturday’s dance and had parents help them modify problem dresses with mesh and lace panels and/or some simple sewing to make dresses less revealing. And we know lots of you have gone shopping with your daughters one more time when the first choice dress was too tight/clingy and/or too short. Our fervent hope is that all who come to the dance on Saturday evening will be looking and feeling cute, beautiful, comfortable, and/or elegant–while also being dressed appropriately. Please know, though, that if this is not the case, they will not be allowed to use a jacket, sweater, or other garment to cover a dress that is inappropriate, and anyone who is dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to attend the dance. If a student is not being allowed to attend, parents will be called by an administrator to let them know; if the student will need a parent to come and pick her up, she will remain inside under adult supervision until her parent arrives to take her home.

DUAL CREDIT TUITION DUE TO WKU, JCTC, AND UL:  Students enrolled in a dual credit class this semester should have met with Mrs. Fieldhouse during their study to verify which classes should receive their KHEAA Dual Credit Scholarship(s) and which classes for which they need to pay tuition.  You may have received tuition bills that had a November 1 due date, but due to a delay of disbursement from KHEAA that due date was extended and families should make these payments by the beginning of December.  If you have any questions, please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE.

ATTENTION, FRESHMAN PARENTS: All freshman parents received a letter electronically last week asking for your help with our Open House.  Each year, we ask our freshman parents to contribute to the success of our Open House by baking cookies for all of our guests.  Please check your email for the letter and the form to complete by Tuesday, November 26, or you may click here to access the form directly. Thank you in advance for your help.

ALERT SYSTEM TEST:  We sent a test weather and emergency alert on Monday, November 18, at 5:00 p.m. All parents who set their options in PowerSchool were sent a test message to their email and/or phone via text or voice.  If you did not receive the message as you expected, please check your options by logging into PowerSchool or email Brent Miller in our IT Department or call his office at 271-2527 for assistance.

REMINDER ABOUT DELIVERIES:  In an effort to teach our students about being accountable for their own belongings as well as to limit the number of visitors to school during the day and effectively monitor those visitors coming into the school, we have a policy that does NOT allow for student deliveries.  Parents – please do not bring items (lunches, homework, bake sale items, sports equipment, presentations, papers, etc.) to school to drop off for your daughters.  Our main office staff and athletic office staff have been instructed not to accept those deliveries. Thank you for your cooperation with these efforts.

THANKSGIVING LUNCH: On Tuesday, November 26, FLIK will serve a traditional Thanksgiving Lunch. There will be NO additional items sold.  The menu is:

  • Thanksgiving Lunch:  Sliced turkey and dressing with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, dinner roll
  • Dessert:  pumpkin pie

The Thanksgiving lunch will be $7.00 and $2.00 for pie. Students will need to pack a bag lunch if they do not wish to purchase the Thanksgiving lunch as no other items will be sold that day.  The Thanksgiving lunch will count as the meal plan entrée for students who are utilizing the meal plan option.

ROCKET PARENT NETWORK (RPN) NEWS:   On November 14, the CDC updated their website with new information about the serious lung diseases associated with vaping: CDC Website.  As you continue to dialogue with your daughter about the dangers of vaping, we thought these articles might be helpful: What Works to Get Kids to Quit Vaping and  Helping Teenagers Quit Vaping.

GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT PODCAST: We are excited to invite you to listen to the fourth episode of our new Guidance Department podcast, AHS Counselor Conversations. Podcast episodes will focus on a wide variety of topics such as mental health, academics, relationships, and college & career preparation.  We are grateful that this new initiative allows us to make information accessible to you, our parents, at your convenience with just a couple clicks of a button; we hope it will help you in your efforts to give your teen the support she needs to grow into the best version of herself. On November 14, we hosted our annual AHS Career Day for our students. Four of our guest panelists were kind enough to stay after and record this episode for our parents. Regardless of your daughter’s age or stage in the career exploration process, we think this information will assist you in supporting her as she moves toward her future. You may listen via this link or by searching for “AHS Counselor Conversations” in Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Feel free to subscribe so you don’t miss out on future episodes as they are released through the school year. Questions and comments are always welcome at GuidancePodcast@ahsrockets.org.
