Rocket Report
Dear Parents,
This week our sophomores took time to reflect upon and celebrate the service they completed through our ACTS program this semester. The stories they shared at the ACTS prayer service showed what a meaningful and life-changing experience ACTS was for each of them. Many thanks to the 46 agencies who graciously worked with our ACTS angels and to you, parents, for your support and encouragement of this long-standing Assumption tradition!
Spring break begins tomorrow, Friday, March 29, and continues through Sunday, April 7. School will resume on Monday, April 8. We wish all of our families a restful and safe spring break!
CAMPUS MINISTRY:
- PARENT PRAYER GROUP ON TUESDAY MORNINGS: We invite all parents to join our parent prayer group that meets on Tuesdays at 8:15 a.m. in the chapel after we return from spring break. Each prayer experience lasts just 30 minutes, dress is casual, and there’s no commitment to ongoing participation. Just come whenever you can make it!
PHYSICALS: For athletes: A reminder to all parents of Assumption athletes: It is required by the KHSAA that your daughter have a current physical on file with the athletic office before she may participate in tryouts or practice of any kind. This physical must be submitted on the KHSAA physical form. Fall sports tryouts begin July 15. Please call and make a doctor’s appointment today with your daughter’s primary care physician. There are no group physicals offered here at school.
For incoming freshmen and transfers: All incoming freshmen and transfer students are also required to have a physical before starting at AHS; if the student-athlete is a freshman or a transfer student, please use the AHS Physical Form, which incorporates the KHSAA form so it can be used for athletics, but also contains other information needed by Assumption personnel. Both forms can be accessed here on our website: AHS and KHSAA PHYSICAL FORMS
LEARNING DIFFERENCES/PSP INCOMING FRESHMAN PARENT PROGRAM MEETING: There will be an INCOMING freshman parent meeting on Wednesday, April 17, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Media Center. Parents should enter through the CAC/Gym doors. Please attend so that you can receive information about our specialized program. Any questions, please contact LAURA CRONIN.
FAMILY OLYMPICS: On Tuesday, April 9, all families will compete in Family Council-sponsored Olympics event from 12:30-2:55 p.m. Families will participate in a series of activities which will serve to strengthen family bonds and promote friendly, inter-family competition. Activities will include a family potluck, opening ceremony, three Olympic-style games, and finally, a closing competition in the gym at the end of the day. Families will hold pot-luck style lunches on that Tuesday, with Family Council members organizing this within their homerooms and families. Additionally, students are encouraged to wear a family t-shirt OR a t-shirt in their family color WITH their uniform skirts. May the best family win!
DRESS DOWN FOR EDUCATION: For a minimum contribution of $3, all students, faculty, and staff may “dress down” on Friday, April 12. Guidelines for appropriate dress are outlined in the handbook. The money raised will go to two important causes that support women and education. One is Assumption’s school in Cambodia, and the other is a project proposed by an AHS student in conjunction with an organization called “Days for Girls.” It involves an initiative that prepares and distributes sustainable menstrual health solutions to girls in developing countries who would otherwise miss school during their monthly periods. If you would like to contribute, feel free to send in a donation with your daughter.
#RIVALSUNITE4GIRLS ALUMNAE GIVING CHALLENGE: From March 18-21, Assumption teamed up with Mercy, Presentation, and Sacred Heart for a friendly competition focused on supporting girls’ education and raising awareness of women’s involvement in their alma mater’s annual funds. The school with the highest percentage of alumnae giving at the end of the challenge wins. Congratulations to Sacred Heart Academy who won the challenge this year with 18.6% of alumnae giving! While Assumption did not win the Golden Piggy Bank, we raised more than $52,000 in just four days. Additionally, our alumnae support grew from 3.76% to 14.18% and 996 alums donated!
ASSUMPTION PARENT ORGANIZATION (APO) NEWS: Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon: On Thursday, April 18, we will be showing our sincere appreciation to Assumption’s very own faculty and staff with a wonderful luncheon. Right after Spring Break we will be asking you to help us make the day special. We will be sending an email with a Sign-up Genius link for food, door prizes and monetary donations. Stay tuned…

INCOMING FRESHMEN – CLASS OF 2023 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We are so excited for you to start seeing all that your daughter will be experiencing over the next four years through the Rocket Report! To ensure that you have everything you need for your daughter to begin in the fall, we have created a special website for the Class of 2023. On this site you will see a breakdown from month to month with dates to note on your calendar and items that need to be completed or turned in. A few of the time sensitive items which you will want to pay special attention to in April include SUMMER SEMINAR REGISTRATION, TABLET PC TRAINING SIGN-UPS, AND FRESHMAN SERVICE HOURS REQUIREMENTS. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact the Main Office at 502-458-9551.
ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Assumption does not excuse students from school for family trips and/or vacations. If you are planning to take your daughter out of school before 2:55 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, to get a jump start on Spring Break travel, please bear in mind that the absence will be unexcused and she will not be able to receive credit for anything collected for a grade (including tests) in her classes while she is gone. She may not submit the work early or turn it in after the absence for late credit. If your daughter becomes ill and is unable to attend school on Thursday, March 28, or Monday, April 8, she will need to provide a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Dean of Students CINDI BAUGHMAN. Full details about our attendance and absence policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.
LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding scholarship offers, admission to special programs and honors colleges, as well as admission decisions to Leigh Jackson, college counselor. This information is vital to the Senior Honors Ceremony. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org by Friday, April 19, 2019.
