BEST BUDDIES
There is a new club at Assumption this years called Best Buddies. Best Buddies is a national organization with chapters at schools and organizations all across America. Best Buddies is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This club is open to everyone who would like to support members of our community with IDD and to learn more about the mission of best buddies. Please come to our first interest/information meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13. See your email for the Teams join code. If you have any questions, please email Mary Claire Stukenborg.
SENIOR PRIVILEGE FINALLY BEGINNING AFTER FALL BREAK
Hi there, Class of 2021! We know you are likely looking forward to tomorrow when your senior privilege will provide the opportunity for you to take the day off on testing day to pursue a college visit or just get some rest. We are thrilled for you! We hope you will be thrilled to hear that when you return after fall break, we will begin to roll out the senior privilege of giving seniors the opportunity to enjoy eating lunch outside. With the help of your senior class officers, we have worked out a plan to allow three families in each cohort to eat outside on assigned days with two families on the Tyler Lane side and on family in the courtyard. During homeroom on Tuesday, we will ask all seniors to join a meeting in the Class of 2021 team meeting Teams to share some logistics, details and responsibilities of how this will work within our Healthy at Assumption framework. Be on the lookout for the meeting invite. We are excited for this new addition for you when we return and wanted to give you the head’s up before fall break begins.
EARLY VOTING
The Student Y Chapter would like to remind all eligible KY Voters that early in person voting begins today 10/13. If you did not request an absentee ballot please spend some time over fall break and go out and vote when you have more free time during the day. Locations can be found on elect.ky.gov. Let your voice be heard!
CANstruction
Did you know that 16.1% of Louisville residents experience food insecurity? That’s almost 1/5th of the population. What CAN you do to help? Bring in cash or coins, or write a check to dare to care and put it in your homeroom bucket by October 23!! Want to wear Halloween costumes and have a whole week of spirit wear? Keep listening! $1 equals THREE meals. If the whole school collects 20,000 meals (about $6,667) by October 23, then everyone can wear Halloween costumes on October 27th, or October 30. AND, if we collect 25,000 meals, (about $8,334) by October 23, then everyone can wear spirit wear for a whole week! Do you want to win a TON of family points? $1 brought in= 1 family point! The family with the best box decoration theme will earn 1,000 extra points, 2nd place will earn 900, 3rd place will earn 800, and so on down by the 100’s.
So, bring in some spare cash and coins!! we CAN do it!!
TESTING DAY CHANGE
There has been a change to our testing schedule due to a shipping issue with test materials. There will not be a PSAT given this Wednesday therefore juniors and any freshman and sophomore scheduled to take the PSAT on Wednesday will not take it this week but will be able to take it the last week of October. However we can administer the preACT this Wednesday. The preACT is a test for all freshman and sophomore’s at Assumption. So, all freshmen and sophomores should plan to come to school this Wednesday to take the preACT This test will start at regular school time so you should be in your room ready to go just like today at 8:30 and will dismiss at approximately noon. The best thing about the preACT is it is truly a test to help all of us gather information about what we need to do to help you get your best ACT when you’re a senior. The school gets information about what you know and don’t know and you get information about what you know and don’t know. You just need to take the test seriously and do your best for what you know on this given day. Your parents are receiving a special message with the same information yesterday. Lastly, we know this is a late change to your schedule so if your parents aren’t able to get you here on Wednesday, we will offer a make up for the pre-ACT. We will communicate that make up date at a later time. This also impacts testing pool. If you have a test to make up in testing pool, please make sure to check your email for an email from Mr. Monaghan to know when to take your testing pool tests.
