Dear Parents,

In honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week, we want to take an opportunity to let you know how grateful we are for our amazing faculty and staff. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated staff of exceptional individuals who are hard-working, committed, innovative, creative, and caring.  The community of Assumption is grateful for these women and men who guide our students every day!

Yesterday we celebrated the last day of classes for our senior class with a virtual Senior Walk Out.  The “walk out” has always been the faculty and staff’s way to celebrate, thank, and say goodbye to the senior class. Although we could not have our traditional in-person walkout, we were able to host one virtually via Zoom that included a special letter to the Class of 2020 from the faculty/staff.  To view the full walk out experience, please click on this link: Class of 2020 Virtual Senior Walkout. We are so proud of our seniors who will always be forever young to us.  Thank you, senior parents, for sharing your daughters with us these past four years. We can’t wait to celebrate the Class of 2020 with you next week!

Today, we celebrated the achievements of the underclasswomen with a virtual presentation of the Celebration of Achievement affectionately known as The Rosies. You can view the video presentation and the flipbook version of the traditional PowerPoint of achievements through the links below.  Lanyard buttons that are traditionally given out at this assembly will be mailed home next week. We are so proud of our students!

  • CELEBRATION OF ACHIEVEMENT VIDEO 2020
  • ROSIES AWARDS FLIPBOOK 2020

Today, we also held a virtual Senior Dream Assembly for our rising seniors, Class of 2021.  This traditional assembly invites juniors to goal-set for their senior year as an individual, as a class, as a school, and as a larger community.  We are looking forward to the leadership of our Class of 2021 next year and helping them to achieve their dreams!

CALENDAR NOTES:

  • Week of May 11-15
  • Monday – Thursday: Virtual Learning Days as scheduled for Underclasswomen
  • Underclasswomen:  Last day of virtual classes: Thursday, May 14
  • Friday – Last day of school for Underclasswomen: including homeroom time, class meeting time, and end of the year celebration virtual experience. (exact schedule TBD)
  • GRADUATION EVENTS:  We will be celebrating the Class of 2020 with the following events next week:
  • Wednesday, May 13 – Virtual Senior Honors Ceremony – 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 14 – Virtual Senior Baccalaureate Prayer Service – 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 16 – Graduation – Special delivery to graduates’ homes.  In-person graduation tentatively scheduled for July 25.

SENIOR PARENT LETTER: A special message email was sent out last Thursday, April 30 to parents of seniors giving details about senior activities and graduation events.  If you are a senior parent and did not receive this email, please click on the link provided to view this important information: SENIOR EVENTS PARENT LETTER 2020.  PLEASE NOTE:  A special message with final details for accessing the virtual Senior Honors Assembly and Baccalaureate will be emailed next week!

SENIOR TRANSCRIPTS:  Senior parents, final transcripts will be sent to your daughter’s college or university (and NCAA, if applicable) in mid-June.  This is the university that she indicated on her final transcript request form she completed online earlier this week.  She may start to receive reminders from her university.  She does not have to contact the Guidance Office regarding those reminders unless she needs to change the university she listed on her final transcript form.

RETURNING/RETRIEVING ITEMS FROM SCHOOL:  We are working on a safe plan for all students to return library books, and other items to school as well as to retrieve any items from student lockers or classrooms.  Plans will be communicated later in May with a return scheduled during the week of June 1 -5.

END OF THE YEAR TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION and TABLET PCs:

  • Underclasswomen Tablets:  Because of the uncertainties and challenges anticipated for the next few months, Assumption has made the decision to allow underclasswomen to keep their tablet PC’s for summer.  We plan to reimage the student tablets when they return to school in the fall.  If your daughter has any problems with her tablet during this summer, she can reach out to Mr. Russ Wallace at russ.wallace@ahsrockets.org  for assistance.
  • Senior Tablets: All senior tablets need to be returned to school and will be collected during our returning/retrieving items from school days set for the first week of June.  Even if your daughter intends to purchase her tablet, she must return it during this time to remove the web filter.  Unfortunately, this can only be done in the school building.   We will be sharing more details with seniors next week regarding return procedures as well as pick up procedures for those purchasing their tablets.

NATIONAL ACT TEST FOR THE CLASS OF 2021:  We have postponed the National ACT scheduled for June 2 to the fall.  We will announce this date as soon as it is confirmed with ACT.

AP TESTING GUIDE AND SCHEDULE:  If your daughter is taking an AP exam, please make sure she is keeping on top of her emails from College Board.  Any correspondence will be coming from College Board and not her teachers.  If you would like more details, this AP TESTING GUIDE and EXAM DAY CHECKLIST from College Board are very helpful.

PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR:  Our current sophomores and juniors have already been given information about applying for parking spaces for next year, including the links to submit a Parking Spot Request and establish accounts and carpools with CarpoolToSchool. Students need to have their driver’s license (not just a permit) by August 10 to apply for a parking space before school starts and begin driving to school on the first day of the new school year; those who won’t have their licenses and/or a vehicle to drive to school until after August 10 need to see Mrs. Dusch in the main office to request a parking space after the first day of school and when they are ready to start driving to school on a regular basis. Thursday, July 30 is the deadline for submitting a parking request for space assignment before school starts; deadline for having passengers set up in Carpool to School (the number of other AHS students in the carpool on this date will determine the priority for assigning parking).

If your daughter wants to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It builds community, is good for the environment, and helps Assumption be a good neighbor by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road in the morning and afternoon. Parking will be very tight for the new school year, so carpooling will be more important than ever; as has been the case for the last several years, priority in assigning parking will be given to students with carpools and will not be based on seniority. A senior without a registered, official carpool should expect to park at the Legion.

CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS:  Assumption is pleased to announce that we will again partner with CarpoolToSchool.com for the 2020-2021 school year—this online service creates an Assumption-only network that allows parents and students to set up carpools to and/or from school that others can then request to join or request to join a carpool to/from school that has already been set up by an AHS junior or senior who drives to school or another AHS parent. As noted in the information about student parking above, this is one of the many ways that we build community, respect the environment, and try to be good neighbors by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should be receiving an email from CarpoolToSchool.com on or about Monday, May 18, inviting you to participate.  Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are interested in using this service may log on to CarpoolToSchool.com and access their already existing accounts; just “request a new password” if you don’t remember what you set up previously. If you have any difficulties setting up or accessing a CarpoolToSchool account, please contact Angie Dusch, assistant to the deans, and she will be happy to help you.

FLIK ACCOUNTS:  All monies in the FLIK lunch accounts of current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be credited to next year’s account for the 2020-2021 school year.  Senior parents – FLIK will be processing refunds to account balances for senior lunch accounts.  If you have any questions, please contact FLIK directly at lin.johnson@compass-usa.com.

BOOK BUYBACKS:  Please view the flyer and video linked below for instructions on how to return your daughter’s books to MBS through their Online Buyback Program since we will be unable to facilitate an EZ drop buyback due to our building closure.  For questions, please contact vb@bncservices.com or call 1.800.325.3252 as their customer service support line is open 24/7.

FINAL EXAMS/FINAL GRADES/FAILURES:  Given this unique school year, we have decided to cancel our traditional final exams as well as exam days for all grade levels.  Instead, we will follow the schedule outlined below for student last days and students with failing grades.

Students who are passing their courses with at least a 70% for the semester and/or the year and have met all course requirements will have their last day of classes on:

  • Seniors:  Thursday, May 7
  • Underclasswomen:  Thursday, May 14

Students who are NOT passing their courses with at least a 70% for the semester and/or the year and/or have NOT met all course requirements will be required to meet with their teacher virtually during the week of May 11-15 for the seniors and the week of May 18-22 for the underclasswomen and complete work designated by their teacher by the dates listed below:

  • Seniors:  Friday, May 15
  • Underclasswomen:  Friday, May 22

Work must be completed successfully in order to earn a passing grade; participation in these extended days and completion of the work does not guarantee a passing grade.

Gratefully,

Martha Tedesco

Principal
