Dear Parents,
On Saturday morning, our seniors and their mothers/mother figures participated in our first digital event, the Mother-Daughter Breakfast Experience. It was a beautiful and touching experience as evident from the wonderful pictures and comments shared via social media. Thanks to all who were able to participate in this virtual experience together and celebrate this important event in the lives of our seniors. Please keep all of our seniors and their parents/guardians in your prayers as we walk with them through these last few weeks of school.
Today, we had the opportunity for classes to meet in class meetings and homerooms. It was so good for the students, faculty, and staff to connect in this virtual way…together. Additionally, the seniors were able to participate in a virtual Senior Celebration Day where they worked on their Class of 2020 collaborative art project. We were thrilled to be able to make this important senior tradition – a collaborative art piece that will hang in the halls of Assumption next year – a reality for them today!
CALENDAR NOTES:
- Week of April 27- May 1
- Monday – Thursday: Days as scheduled
- Friday: Virtual Learning Holiday (originally Oaks Day Holiday) No virtual classes for all; catch-up, rest, and re-charge day.
JUNIOR RING CEREMONY UPDATE: We shared with the juniors today at their class meeting that we plan to celebrate their rings with them at a ceremony at the beginning of their senior year. We look forward to that celebration. In the meantime, however, we want to commemorate April 26 as the special date that it was intended to be for the Class of 2021. On Sunday via their school email, the juniors will receive a video message from the senior class officers with a reflection on the true meaning of senior rings. We also know that the juniors are understandably eager to receive their senior rings. We have asked Balfour to notify us as to when senior rings are available which they believe will be in the next week or so. When they are, we will email juniors and notify parents via the Rocket Report so that you can arrange curbside pickup with Balfour.
FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE PICTURES: Pictures taken and ordered at the Father-Daughter Dance are being delivered to Assumption today and will be mailed home next week. If your daughter does not receive her photos by the end of the week, please contact our main office receptionist AMY SCHELB.
FLIK ACCOUNTS: All monies in the FLIK lunch accounts of current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be credited to next year’s account for the 2020-2021 school year. Senior parents – FLIK will be processing refunds to account balances over the next few weeks for senior lunch accounts. If you have any questions, please contact FLIK directly at lin.johnson@compass-usa.com.
BOOK BUYBACKS: Please view the flyer and video linked below for instructions on how to return your books to MBS through their Online Buyback Program since we will be unable to facilitate an EZ drop buyback due to our building closure. - Seniors: Thursday, May 7
- Underclasswomen: Thursday, May 14
Students who are NOT passing their courses with at least a 70% for the semester and/or the year and/or have NOT met all course requirements will be required to meet with their teacher virtually during the week of May 11-15 for the seniors and the week of May 18-22 for the underclasswomen and complete work designated by their teacher by the dates listed below:
- Seniors: Friday, May 15
- Underclasswomen: Friday, May 22
Work must be completed successfully in order to earn a passing grade; participation in these extended days and completion of the work does not guarantee a passing grade.
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY – DIGITAL SPRING PLAY: Rose Theatre Company is excited to announce “A Midsummer Night’s STREAM!” Assumption’s digital production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being filmed on Zoom, complete with props and costumes! The play will air via the Assumption High School Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26. A link to the performance will also be made available through the school website through May 3 at ahsrockets.org/academics/fine-arts/theatre-arts/. In lieu of ticket sales, the Rose Theatre Company is asking audience members to contribute to the Assumption High School Annual Fund which provides tuition assistance to those in need. We know there will be many families struggling financially due to hardships related to COVID-19 in the days and weeks ahead, and we want to help our community to meet that need.
WHAT WE DO MAKES A DIFFERENCE: During this pandemic, we know that it may feel isolating while abiding by social distancing guidelines. However, we also know that even while we are apart we can continue to find ways to make a difference both individually and collectively. So, we ask, “What are you doing to make a difference?” Please share what you are doing to make a difference on social media! Tag @ahsrockets in your Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter posts and pictures and use the hashtags #AHSMakesADifference, #HealthyAtHome and #RocketsAtHome. Or simply email your pictures and tell us what you are doing to make a difference at maggie.ising@ahsrockets.org. We are stronger together, and we will get through this united as a community. We hope that by sharing how you make a difference, it will bring a much-needed connection to our entire Assumption family. Although, we may be physically apart, we remain the community of Assumption!
Gratefully,
Martha Tedesco
