President and the Principal, Mary Lang and Martha Tedesco

Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and we will be celebrating our amazing faculty and staff all week long for the great work that they do. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated staff of exceptional individuals who are hard-working, committed, innovative, creative, and caring.  The Community of Assumption is grateful for these women and men who guide our students every day!

We have asked our students to take a moment next week to thank a faculty or staff member who has made a difference in their lives.  We invite you to do the same.  We also ask that you join our community in prayer as we ask God to bless our faculty and staff for the incredible blessing they are to the Community of Assumption.

God of all wisdom,

bless the faculty and staff of Assumption High School who give their heart and soul to their vocation of helping students learn and grow. Thank you for the special gifts that You have given them and for giving them a spirit of grace, understanding, and compassion. May they have strength and endurance to perform the many, many tasks they are responsible for, and may they know the deep gratitude of those they teach and those they serve.

We thank you for their creativity, work ethic, commitment, drive, and sense of humor. We thank you for the lives they have changed and transformed, for the countless ways they have taught by the example set by Jesus. During this National Teacher Appreciation Week, bless those faculty and staff who have contributed to the lives of others, inspiring them to become the very best versions of themselves.

Amen.

Senior Signing Day was a powerful snapshot of the future.

Wearing the college shirts of where they’ll continue their journey next year, the Class of 2026 proudly represents what hard work, faith, and confidence can achieve. This remarkable class was accepted to 154 different colleges across 38 states, Washington, D.C., and four foreign countries, earning more than $29 million in scholarships. We can’t wait to see where their gifts and leadership take them next.

Please continue to keep Kaitlyn and her family in your prayers.

ASSUMPTION HONORS CEREMONY: The Assumption Honors Ceremony will be held again this year at Assumption for our underclasswomen.  At this event, we will celebrate and accomplishments of our underclasswomen in the areas of academics, service, fine arts, leadership, and honor scholarship recipients.  We will also honor the service of faculty and staff as we award the annual Karen Russ Excellence in Teaching Award to a faculty member and the Excellence Award for Staff and bid farewell to teachers who are retiring from Assumption this school year. This assembly’s objectives include spotlighting the accomplishments of the current school year, encouraging and challenging students toward goals for the following year, and celebrating our year as a community.  The assembly will be held in the gym from 1:40-3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8.

PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

As our year comes closer to an end, it’s time to celebrate our family competition champion. At our spring pep rally this week, we announced that this year’s winner is the CHARLEVILLE FAMILY! As a congratulations to Charleville, they will be receiving a morning treat during exams.  In addition, all Charleville family members may enjoy wearing spirit wear (following all spirit wear rules listed in the handbook) during final exams in May.  Charleville worked hard collecting for Canstruction, attending Assumption events, participating in drives and school-promoted engagement activities, and performing well at our Family Olympics, which helped them earn their win. Congratulations to our Charleville family on all their hard work throughout the year!

Additionally, we held our annual bleacher dance competition at our pep rally.  Congratulations to the SENIOR CLASS for winning the bleacher dance competition!

To parents of students in Family Birr: As part of their victory in the 2026 Family Olympics, members of the Birr family will have the opportunity to participate in an outdoor celebration during RTI.  The celebration includes enjoying giant inflatables that students can jump and slide on during this time.  While this event is completely optional for members of the Birr Family, we do hope that they come together to celebrate in their victory and spend time as a family together.

WE NEED YOUR VOTE! – Last Day to Vote! Last year, Assumption was chosen as the Best Private High School in Louisville by the Courier-Journal as part of its Community Choice Awards, which recognizes the top organizations and businesses in 25 different categories.  We are honored to be nominated again this year!   We are asking our families to support Assumption so we can again be recognized as the best of the best here in Louisville. Voting is open until Thursday, April 30, and you can vote once per day.   Click here to vote.

ALUMNAE UNITE RESULTS: Our recent Alumnae Unite campaign was a success, raising over $132,000 for Assumption! With 11.30% participation and over 1,000 donors, our alumnae community secured a third-place finish. Thank you to every alumna who supported the campaign through donations, matches, and outreach. This investment in our school makes a lasting difference for our current Rockets and our entire community!

END-OF-THE-YEAR TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS:

A member of our IT Department will share the following information with our students in one of their May class meetings.

  • All students must turn in their HP laptop to the Boeckmann Lab by their last day of classes. Seniors must turn in their HP laptops on their last day of classes or after their last exam. We must have them turned in before graduation. All other students need to turn them in on or before May 21.
  • Graduating seniors may purchase their HP laptops for $5.00. However, they must turn them in and tell us then if they want to purchase them so we can remove the school software. The graduates may pick up their purchased HP laptops starting the week of June 8. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • If a senior wants to purchase her HP laptop, the $5.00 fee (cash or check, no credit cards) will be collected when she comes to pick it up. The HP laptops not purchased by the seniors will be placed in our school loaner pool or will be used for parts to fix other computers.
  • The PC warranty and accidental damage protection ends the day before graduation. Also, graduated seniors’ AHS email and all Microsoft products will be deactivated on August 1. Please make the proper accommodations for removing all important information from these places.
  • Rising seniors may pick up their HP laptops starting the week of July 13 and rising sophomores and juniors starting the week of July 20. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.  HP laptops can only be given to students who come with their school-issued case to pick up. This is a requirement for our accidental damage insurance.
  • If your student is participating in a summer activity through Assumption and will need access to her laptop, please have her reach out to the IT Department and the faculty member coordinating that activity to make arrangements for keeping or picking up her laptop.

PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR: Our current sophomores and juniors will soon be given detailed information about parking for next year at upcoming class meetings. Students need to have their driver’s license to apply for a parking space. We ask that students submit their own parking information online and work with Ms. Wesley and Mrs. Park themselves to take care of the parking process. Students will receive all of the needed information for parking links in their email. Parking is assigned based on several factors including carpool and seniority.

  • Monday, July 13, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for submitting a parking payment and information for space assignment before school starts
  • Monday, July 13, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for having passengers set up in CarpoolToSchool.com

If your daughter plans to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It builds community, is good for the environment, and helps Assumption be a good neighbor by reducing the amount of school-related traffic in our area.

CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: Assumption is pleased to announce that we will again partner with CarpoolToSchool.com for the 2026-2027 school year. This online service creates an Assumption-only network that allows parents and students to set up carpools to and/or from school. Requests for carpools can also be made on the site. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should be receiving an email from CarpoolToSchool.com in mid-May inviting them to participate (check your junk folder if you don’t see it in your Inbox).  Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are also interested in using this service may utilize CarpoolToSchool. General questions about CarpoolToSchool may be directed to Tatum Park in the Main Office.

ASSUMPTION PARENT ORGANIZATION (APO) NEWS:

  • Teacher Appreciation: As we near the end of this school year, we’d like to take some time to show the AHS faculty and staff how much we appreciate all they do for our daughters. During the week of May 4-8, we are planning to show our appreciation to the faculty and staff. We are asking parents to contribute to this event, if so inclined, by sending in gift cards or monetary donations. You can send these in with your daughters or drop them off to the main office to the attention of Sarah Brady in the Advancement Department. You can also send monetary donations to the AHS Venmo using this link https://www.venmo.com/u/AssumptionHighSchool with “Faculty/Staff Appreciation” in the description line.  Please note there is currently a scam account on Venmo using a very similar account name and our logo. Using our link will ensure your donation is going to the correct place. If possible, please send these in by May 4. Any donation is appreciated.
  • Call for Class Representatives: Are you interested in getting more involved in the APO? We are looking for class representatives for the 2026-2027 school year, especially for our rising sophomores and incoming freshmen. It is a great way to meet other parents, get to know the parents in your daughter’s class, and help in a variety of ways throughout the year. For more information, please contact Kelly Doyle (APO President) at APO@ahsrockets.org.

TORCHPREP ACT SUMMER INTENSIVE CAMP: TorchPrep will offer an ACT Summer Intensive Camp session at AHS from June 8-11, 2026. It’s a great opportunity to achieve target scores for college admissions and scholarships. SENIOR PROM: Our seniors will have a special holiday from school on the day of their prom, Friday, May 8. The Senior Prom will be held in the Da Vinci Room at the Mellwood Art Center and starts at 6:30 p.m. The seniors and their guests need to arrive at the Da Vinci Room between 6 and 7 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Students arriving after 7:15 p.m. will not be admitted to the dance unless they have made prior arrangements with Ms. Wesley, Dean of Students. Prom ends at 11 p.m. If something unfortunate would happen between now and May 8 and your daughter’s planned guest is no longer going to attend with her, please encourage your daughter to come anyway—she can come alone, with a group of girls, or with a friend (lots of our girls do this anyway so she won’t stand out). We just want her to come and celebrate this final, very special dance with the rest of her class, regardless of who does or does not come with her.

SENIOR EVENTS WEBPAGE:  A reminder that important information about upcoming senior schedules and events is available on the AHS website on the Class of 2026 senior webpage linked here: Class of 2026 Senior Events Webpage

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT GRADUATION TICKETS: Seniors received their graduation tickets at the end of Senior Celebration Day last Thursday. If your family will not be using all ten (10) of the allotted graduation tickets given to your senior, please have her bring them to the main office so they can be distributed to another senior who is in need of extra tickets.  Thank you!

JUNIOR RING CEREMONY: Junior Ring Ceremony is Saturday, May 9 at 11:00 a.m. in the Assumption High School Gym.  Students will need to arrive no later than 10:40 a.m. and should meet their homeroom teacher and family in the cafeteria (enter through the Senior Courtyard doors).  Guests may enter through the CAC doors upon arrival to be seated in the gym.  Following the ceremony, we ask that you meet your Junior in the fenced in area of St. Raphael (by the playground) for pictures.  We are looking forward to this very special celebration for our juniors as we mark the passing of leadership to the Class of 2027.  Special reminder about rings/jewelry: Your student will need to bring her own ring/jewelry with her and hold onto it for the ceremony.

GSJUNIOR ACTS SERVICE HOURS: All juniors are required to complete 15 hours of service at an agency that addresses a justice issue and/or works with a marginalized population. All students were given the details of this requirement in their theology classes as well as a list of approved agencies. They are encouraged to complete or begin this service over the summer. Before they begin serving, they will need to complete an online commitment form that requires a guardian’s signature. If you have any questions, please reach out to the service learning director, Katie Culver (katie.culver@ahsrockets.org)
