March 20, 2026

Guidance and Counseling Program Director, Dawn Deweese

On Monday, we held our annual Prevention Assembly planned by our Substance Abuse Committee.  Like last year, we continued our educational approach of individualizing our programs by choosing topics that were relevant and grade-level appropriate. We hope that you will take time to ask your daughters about what they learned!

Here is a summary of what each grade covered:

  • Freshmen- Wellness leaders led a lesson on peer pressure and making good choices, which included information and experiential role plays.
  • Sophomores– We partnered with Morton Center for a program on vaping.
  • Juniors- Norton hosted a program on drinking and driving.
  • Seniors– An alum and a parent of an alum shared their expertise and experiences with addiction.

We hope these presentations have led to meaningful discussions at home on prevention and good decision making.

See the Good, Be the Good

This week we presented a check to the Arrow Fund for the money that was raised by the Penny Peetz Spirit Wear initiative! Last semester, Marilyn Shoemaker ’28, a sophomore at AHS, had a wonderful idea to do a contest for Penny Peetz Spirit Wear! The winners would have their designs sold to the AHS community and beyond, and the proceeds would benefit the Arrow Fund, a local organization that cares for abused and severely neglected animals through medical care, advocacy, and education. We are so proud of Marilyn, Penny Peetz, Lindsey Peetz, the Arrow Fund, and the entire AHS community who gathered in support for this initiative! Let’s always try to live like Penny and “See the Good, Be the Good!”

FUREVER FRIENDS ADOPTION AND INFORMATIONAL EVENT: The Humane Action Team is hosting a pet adoption and informational event this Sunday, March 22 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Highland Hall (our campus across the street). Come learn information from animal charities, veterinary offices, and training facilities as well as possibly bring home a “furever friend.”

ACT FOR JUNIORS: On Tuesday, March 24, all juniors will take the ACT at Assumption at 8:50 a.m. Juniors will be dismissed at approximately 12:15 on this day.  Just like in October, there is no makeup date for this ACT at AHS; no signup is needed on the part of each family; and this test fee is covered by your tuition dollars.  You can read more about ACT school day testing at this link.  This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact COLLEEN MURPHY if you have any questions.

LEAD & LEARN DAY – Wednesday, March 25: While our faculty and staff will be participating in a professional development day, our students will utilize this day from home as a LEAD & Learn Day.  As they were in October, students will be asked to identify how they can most productively utilize the day to achieve academic and co-curricular outcomes for the semester and may choose to engage in a variety of activities to accomplish these goals. These could include catching up on homework or working ahead on a project, writing college essays or completing college applications, making a college visit, completing service hours, or engaging in standardized test prep. This could also include some time for rest, mindfulness, or exercise. As a final step in solidifying their purposeful use of the day, students will be required to submit their plans for the day by 12:00 p.m. via email through an Attendance Forms Survey. This survey will serve as their virtual attendance for the day.

SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, April 3 since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive.  School will resume on Monday, April 13.

LENTEN OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Throughout Lent, we continue the Rice Bowl collection to support the important work of Catholic Relief Services, which meets the needs of people most in need around the world and here at home in Louisville. Feel free to send in a donation with your daughter! We will also have a dress-down day to support this effort on Friday, March 27. For a minimum donation of $3, students can dress down for the day according to handbook guidelines.
  • Students have several opportunities to experience the sacraments during RTI Time. We had Mass and Reconciliation available today with Fr. Yen Tran. Some remaining opportunities during Lent are below. Students receive information in their weekly Campus Ministry email and can sign up in the RTI Scheduler.
  • Monday, March 23 – Mass with Fr. Bill Hammer in the chapel (A only)
  • Monday, March 23 – Reconciliation with Fr. Bill Hammer in the chapel (B only)
  • Friday, March 27 – Mass with Fr. Casey Sanders in the chapel (A only)
  • Monday, March 30 – 15-Minute Prayer in the chapel (A, B)

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Parent Prayer will not meet on Wednesday, March 25 as it is a LEAD & Learn Day but will meet the following week, on April 1, from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the chapel. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance.  We will pray for all juniors on April 1. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

TUITION AND REGISTRATION FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR: Parents and guardians of current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors should have received an email this week outlining tuition details for the 2026–2027 school year. We will continue using Blackbaud Tuition Management (BBTM) for registration and tuition payments. In April, BBTM will automatically re-enroll your account for the upcoming school year. Once re-enrollment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for accessing your 2026–2027 account. If you experience any issues logging in, please contact BBTM directly at 1-888-868-8828 for assistance. If your daughter will not be returning for the 2026–2027 school year, please contact our registrar, Jenny Friedenberg, to complete the withdrawal process and provide authorization for the release of records. For questions about your account or to make changes (such as payment plans or banking information), please contact Shanna Selby at 502-271-2520 or email financedept@ahsrockets.org. Please note: The deadline to make any changes to your 2026–2027 account is June 15, 2026.

2026-2027 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES:  We collected the signed course selection forms from your daughters Thursday and Friday, March 19 and 20.  If you have not finalized and submitted her course selections, please do ASAP this weekend and turn in on Monday, March 23 so we may begin working on our 2026-2027 master schedule.  If your daughter still has some questions or concerns about courses, have her contact her dean of studies.  If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, please contact IT Specialist Brent.Miller@ahsrockets.org or Registrar Jenny Friedenberg at Jenny.Friedenberg@ahsrockets.org.

FROM THE ADVANCEMENT OFFICE: Today is the last day of the Rocket Madness family participation fundraiser! If you haven’t yet, please consider donating in support of your daughter’s favorite program or activity. The goal is participation so every donation, no matter the dollar amount, makes a difference. The grade with the highest participation will get a sweet treat at lunch. Plus, as an added thank you, donations of $50 or more will get an AHS monogrammed cosmetic bag. We want to see which class has the most Rocket pride! Make your donation here. For more information, contact Anna White.

FOOD SERVICE SURVEY – Flik wants your feedback! Flik invites you to share your feedback regarding your daughter’s dining experience in order to assist them in maintaining high standards of quality, service, and overall satisfaction.   Click here to take the brief survey: AHS Survey Link.  The survey closes on Friday, March 20.

ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that absences directly before or after Spring Break will count toward semester absence totals. Also, missing the day before or after Spring Break without a medical note will result in an academic penalty of a 50% reduction on assignments missed. If your daughter is sick before or after Spring Break, please submit a medical note to the Attendance Office so that this can be noted on your daughter’s attendance record. Full details about our attendance policies and procedures can be found in the Student-Family Handbook.

LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this.  Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2026.  These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org.  We ask that students submit all of this information by Monday, March 23, 2026.

NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES: Beginning April 13, as FLIK works to close out the school year with our graduating class, seniors who have a negative FLIK lunch account will not be able to charge their account until the account is made positive.

ACT FOR JUNIORS: On Tuesday, March 24, all juniors will take the ACT at Assumption at 8:50 a.m. Juniors will be dismissed at approximately 12:15 on this day.  Just like in October, there is no makeup date for this ACT at AHS, no signup is needed on the part of each family, and this test fee is covered by your tuition dollars.  You can read more about ACT school day testing at this link.  This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact COLLEEN MURPHY if you have any questions.

Students have received information about dance rules and expectations via SharePoint, email, and class meetings.  In order to ensure student safety, all students and guests must arrive by 9:00 p.m. and may not leave until 10:30 p.m. All students will be monitored with the use of a passive alcohol sensor upon arrival and departure of the dance.

CONGRATULATIONS, ACTS ANGELS! We are so proud of the Class of 2028 for completing their sophomore ACTS service! It was an unusual year with our interesting weather, but the time spent at their agencies was valuable.  The 242 members of the Class of 2028 ventured out to 35 agencies each week across Louisville to make and serve meals, comfort the sick, care for small children, provide help to teachers and students, and take care of the environment. Their work amounted to 10,164 hours of service! We are proud of their dedication and commitment to following in the footsteps of our foundress, Catherine McAuley, to GO OUT and serve our larger community. We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from our agencies commenting on the students’ hard work, kindness, and maturity. We look forward to celebrating this class at their ACTS closing prayer service on April 1 during RTI!

SERVICE HOURS REMINDER: This is a reminder that all freshman students have five service hours for their ACTS freshman service requirement due by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 (the day before spring break begins). These hours need to be logged and verified on MobileServe by that time to receive full credit. Please reach out to Katie Culver katie.culver@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.
