Sarah Brady, Manager of Special Events and Volunteers
Welcome back to Assumption for the new semester!
As we kick off 2026, one event is on everyone’s mind: our 45th Annual Rocket Spectacular Benefit Dinner and Auction – Sapphire Soirée. The event will be held here at Assumption on Saturday, February 7 and always sells out in advance! All event proceeds benefit our students’ financial needs; currently one third of our students receive financial assistance. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and there are many ways for YOU to support this effort!
We are still collecting donations for our live and silent auctions. Please contact Sarah Brady at 502-271-2519 if you are interested in donating or supporting or have any questions. If you’d like to help but don’t have time to shop, please feel free to Venmo @AssumptionHighSchool and note RS2026 Donation!
We also launched several raffle items that will be sure to sell out! We will continue to add more up until the event, so be sure to check those out!
Most importantly, we would like to invite you to join us for one of the most fun evenings in Louisville (according to past attendees). Each year, more than 450 individuals join us for a night of high energy and great company where you walk away feeling inspired! You can reserve individual tickets or reserve a table. Reservations are subject to availability. Reserve your tickets now before they are gone. Visit our Rocket Spectacular page to secure your tickets and bid on our exciting raffles. A limited number of tickets will be sold. https://one.bidpal.net/rs26

Seniors vs. Faculty & Staff Volleyball Game
Today we had the chance to bring the whole school together in a celebration of sport and community through a Senior vs. Faculty/Staff Volleyball Game. While the stakes were high (a dress down day for either the student body or the faculty/staff), we know the ultimate reward was the lasting memories made as members of the Assumption Community. Congratulations to the winning team: the Faculty and Staff!

LEARNING DIFFERENCES COLLEGE PANEL: The Learning Support Center will host a College Panel for students who are part of the Learning Differences Program at AHS. The panel will take place on Sunday, January 11 from 1:00–2:00 p.m. During the panel, AHS alumni will share their college experiences and transition to college. They will discuss how they use accommodations at the college level and what accommodations and supports are offered at their colleges and universities. All students in the Learning Differences Program at AHS (freshmen–seniors) and their parents are welcome to attend.

OPPORTUNITIES THIS SEMESTER: We kicked off the new year as a school community with our New Year’s Mass at St. Raphael on Wednesday this week. Like last semester, students will have several opportunities to attend a short Mass and/or participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation during RTI Time.
PARENT PRAYER: Parent Prayer will resume its weekly schedule on Wednesday, January 14 at 8:30 a.m. in the AHS chapel. We will be praying for Kingstown Family juniors and seniors. All are welcome!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

Rockets Taking Initiative (RTI) time returns next week with continued enrichment opportunities from the Office of Leadership and Engagement. Continue to encourage your daughter to take advantage of opportunities to explore topics that interest and enhance her ability to learn and grow at Assumption. She can look forward to opportunities related to leadership development, career exploration, physical and mental wellness, project-based learning, independence skill-building, faith formation, and service learning. Our class of 2029 will continue to participate in our Freshman Mentor program but with less frequency so they may start taking advantage of more of these RTI opportunities on Fridays as well. We look forward to seeing your girls engage in all of the Assumption Advantage.

ACCREDITATION SURVEY: Because of Assumption’s commitment to continuous improvement for excellence, we are currently preparing for a Cognia (formerly AdvancEd) accreditation review in March 2026. Over the next two weeks, we are surveying students, parents, faculty, and staff. Please look for a Cognia accreditation survey that was emailed to you on Wednesday, January 7. Our goal is to have each student represented in the parent survey response, so we ask that at least one parent of each student take the survey – more than one is even better! Please respond to the survey by Sunday, January 18. Thank you, in advance, for helping us shape the future of Assumption High School with your feedback. We value your input!
ACT & PSAT COMPARISON AND GOAL SETTING: On Monday during Community Time, all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors reviewed standardized testing scores from our October ACT and PSAT testing days. Please ask your daughter to see her scores and her goals.
- FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMOREs: Freshmen and sophomores received a folder containing a detailed score report from their PreACT test. Students discussed growth mindset and completed test corrections on missed questions. Students also received an email from Dr. Colleen Murphy with a link to the original test; their score reports include both the correct answers and their selected responses. Students should keep these folders for at least 10 days in case teachers wish to follow up on this activity.
- JUNIORS: Juniors received a folder containing their ACT score report and, if applicable, their PSAT score report. Reviewing the scores together allowed students to compare performance across the two tests. Students also received an email from Dr. Colleen Murphy with a link to a concordance chart, which—though normed for the SAT rather than the PSAT—helps indicate which test a student may perform better on. Using this information, students completed a worksheet to guide their decision about whether to register for an SAT outside of school. Assumption has decided to continue focusing on the ACT, and we have found that most AHS students tend to perform better on the ACT—though some students may favor the SAT suite of tests. Students may register for the SAT at satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/registration. Students who wish to take an additional ACT (beyond the digital ACT given at school on March 24) may register at act.org.
NEWS FROM THE ACHIEVEMENT CENTER: Happy New Year! The AC is ready to help students start their academic year off on the right track. We have organizational supplies available, and we are offering assistance with organizing computer files. After reviewing fall semester grades, now is a great time for parents to encourage students to look for academic opportunities where a student might receive a little extra support. Encourage your student to reach out to her teachers during RTI or to come to the AC for academic help during her study. Don’t forget the AC is open early on Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school from 7:40 to 8:40. Don’t hesitate to contact us at AC@ahsrockets.org if you see an academic need.
FIRST SEMESTER REPORT CARDS: First semester report cards were emailed to parents/guardians on Monday, January 5. If you believe you have not received your daughter’s report card, please check your junk mail folder as emails from Assumption are sometimes diverted to these folders. If it is not in that folder, please contact our registrar, Jenny Friedenberg, for assistance.
DROP/ADD DEADLINE: Drop/Add for second semester elective courses ends on Wednesday, January 14. Any elective schedule change request must be accompanied by a signed schedule change request form or a note from a parent.
SPRING DUAL CREDIT CLASSES: If your daughter is enrolled in a spring 2026 dual credit class, she may have already filled out an online application in December or will be completing this over the next few weeks and will need to have a parent signature on at least one emailed form. If your daughter is taking DC PreCalculus, DC Calculus, DC Public Speaking, DC English IV, DC Intro to Business, DC Personal Finance, DC World Religions, DC Foundations of Instruction, or DC Human Development and Learning, please talk to your daughter about any parent forms that you need to complete from your email and if she still has remaining KHEAA scholarships to pay for these courses. She can log into her KHEAA account HERE. If you have any questions, please contact Jenny.Friedenberg@ahsrockets.org.
Save the date! COLLEGE WORKSHOP AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND PARENTS: Attention, all sophomore and junior parents and students – please mark your calendars for a college workshop on Wednesday, January 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Parents and students will have the opportunity to choose from breakout sessions on topics such as Mastering the College Application Essay, Helpful Strategies for Standardized Testing, the Governor’s Scholars Program, Purposeful Planning and Course Selection, and many more. If you have any questions, please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIMBERLY HABICH, our college counselors.
Save the date! FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, January 31, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students— freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Information about tickets will be available next week. The dance theme is “Great Gatsby Masquerade” and guests are invited to dress for the theme, but of course, themed attire is not required. Music will be provided by Assumption’s very own DJ, Jared Ramirez. Hope to see you there!
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS AND APPLICATIONS: The selection process for new members of the National Honor Society is now underway. This week, Mrs. Kim Habich communicated with sophomores and juniors via email regarding the basic details of selection and membership in the National Honor Society. Initial eligibility requirements include a 3.70 unweighted GPA and no more than one demerit on a student’s discipline record. Beginning Monday, January 12, interested students must attend one informational session outlining the application process. Attendance at this mandatory meeting is required to access and complete the application. The criteria for induction into National Honor Society include outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. For many students, this may be their first time applying to a selective organization, and the information presented at the meeting is intended to provide guidance and support throughout the application process.
TUITION ASSISTANCE: The tuition assistance link for the 2026-2027 school year has been added to the school’s website. The due date is January 15, 2026, and the form must be submitted online to FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. TUITION ASSISTANCE APPLICATION LINK. As a reminder, you are required to file every year to be considered for assistance.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: Scholarship applications for the 2026-2027 school year are on our website. Applications are due via email by 8:00 p.m. on January 19, 2026, via this link: Scholarship-Directory-2026-2027.pdf. Our Advancement Services Manager, Jackie Bloyd, is happy to answer any questions you may have about scholarships or the application and awards process and can be reached at Jackie.Bloyd@ahsrockets.org.

SERVICE HOURS: Juniors who are in Catholic Social Teaching this semester will have 15 service hours to complete as part of their class curriculum. Their service commitment form, which needs to be signed by a parent, is due Friday, January 30. This form, the syllabus with all the due dates and requirements, and a long list of approved agencies can be found on Student SharePoint.

ACTS UNIFORM REMINDER: This is a reminder that all sophomores will need to wear leggings under their skirts that adhere to the uniform code OR uniform pants in order to participate in ACTS this semester. The first ACTS service day is Wednesday, January 21. The black leggings must be plain black with no see-through panels, designs/patterns, or visible logos. Sheer or athletic-style leggings are not allowed. The leggings also need to be free of holes, rips, or runs. The uniform pants are black pants with an embroidered “A” and can be purchased at Shaheen’s. If your student does not have what she will need, please be sure to take care of this over Christmas break. If you have any questions, please reach out to katie.culver@ahsrockets.org.
