December 12, 2025

The past week has been one of preparation.  Our teachers have been busy preparing our students for final exams next week, and our prospective students are anxiously preparing for the High School Placement Test on Saturday.  Students received class schedules and are looking ahead as they prepare for second semester.  I would bet that many of us have also begun the preparation for the holiday shopping and gift-giving season.  But, most importantly, we are in the Advent season where we prepare for the birth of Christ. In the merry busy-ness of our days, may we be ever mindful of Catherine McAuley’s words: “Generosity is not in bestowing gifts…but in bestowing ourselves most freely and relying with unhesitating confidence on the Providence of God.”

PERFORMING ARTS

This past week our fine and performing arts students were able to show off all of their hard work from this semester during the Intro to Theatre Showcase, Advanced Acting Showcase, Winter Art Show, and the Humanities II Extravaganza. Thanks to all who were able to come to help celebrate the wonderful talents of our students!

END OF SEMESTER SCHEDULE: In order to keep a more consistent start time this school year and to have an earlier dismissal, which will help avoid conflicts with St. Raphael on our shared campus, our end-of-year assessment schedule will take place from 8:50 a.m. – 11:40 p.m. each day, and not end at 12:30 p.m. as originally shared in our year-at-a-glance calendar. Our end-of-semester assessments/finals will be held from Tuesday, December 16 to Friday, December 19.  Before-school supervision will be provided in the cafeteria as usual beginning at 7:15 a.m. each day, and FLIK will be selling a variety of breakfast items from 7:30-9:10 a.m. each day during exams.  They will reopen at 10:25 and close at 10:50 each day during exams.

Please note: There will be no after-school supervision in the cafeteria on these days.  Please make arrangements for your daughter to be picked up each day after exams by 12:00 p.m.  Our building will close at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17 for faculty/staff end-of-year activities so students will not be able to meet with faculty/staff members that afternoon.

ABSENCE DURING EXAMS & MAKE-UP EXAMS: A doctor’s note is required to make up any missed exam. Makeup exams will be given on Monday, December 22 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 204; students need to bring their doctor’s notes in advance or bring them with them on December 22 to be eligible to take a makeup exam.

STUDY GROUP OPPORTUNITIES DURING EXAM WEEK: Students have been invited by the Achievement Center to form study groups during exam week. Students may also come to study independently during this time. All students MUST RSVP to attend. Study sessions will take place on the following dates before and after school:

PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

ADVENT REFLECTIONS: The season of Advent begins on Sunday, December 1 and runs until Christmas. If you would like to receive a daily reflection throughout the season, you can do so free of charge by signing up for “Sacred Advent Emails” through Loyola Press.

SECOND SEMESTER SCHEDULES: Your daughter reviewed her second semester classes during Community Time on Thursday, December 12. Please take a moment to ask your daughter about her schedule and if needed, she can see her dean during her study hall next week December 16 – 19. For any level changes, she should already be in conversation with her teacher and will also need written approval from a parent.  She received an email with the steps needed for any schedule change. These forms are available in the main office.  Of course, Judy Fieldhouse  (A–K) and Theresa Schuhmann (L-Z) are always available if you have any questions or concerns.

SECOND SEMESTER BOOKS: If your daughter needs books for any new second semester courses, they will be delivered to your home by January 5. Please make sure we have the most current mailing address for this purpose. If you need to make a change to your mailing address, please contact our registrar, Jenny.Friedenberg@ahsrockets.org.

FIRST SEMESTER GRADE REPORTS: First semester grade reports will be emailed to parents no later than Monday, January 5.

UNIFORM UPKEEP: Over Christmas break, please take a moment to help your daughter check her uniform.

  • Skirt length should be at least fingertip length.
  • Students may only wear the official AHS uniform sweater or quarter-zip over their uniform shirt. These items should be free of snags or holes.
  • Only black leggings or tights may be worn under skirts.

Thank you for helping ensure your daughter’s uniform is in good shape so we can start second semester as smoothly as we did the first. Your partnership is appreciated.

DRIVING PERMIT TEST FORM: Kentucky requires that your daughter obtains a school compliance form from her high school for her to take the driving permit test. If your daughter is planning to take her permit test over the Christmas break and she has not obtained this form, please contact the school before Friday, December 19 at 1:00 p.m. The office will not open again until Monday, January 5 at 7:00 a.m., so please plan ahead to obtain this form to ensure your daughter can take her test at her scheduled time. Per DMV requirements, this form cannot be emailed, scanned or faxed; therefore, the original copy will need to be mailed or picked up at school. Please call 502-458-9551, option ”0” if you need further assistance regarding this issue before Friday, December 19.
