Director of Leadership and Engagement, Kristin Walsh

Family Council is in the middle of an exciting reimagined Canstruction Event—a yearly canned food drive to support the work of Dare to Care Food bank in our Louisville community. According to Dare to Care, your gift of money or cans comes at a time when our neighbors need us more than ever. With SNAP benefits disrupted across our 13-county service area, Dare to Care has doubled their food purchases to respond to the surge of families turning to food pantries for the first time – and your support is making that response possible. Dare to Care is able to provide two meals for every $1 it receives in donations, so we know that the impact we are able to make can support a great number of families in our community, and we will do our best to fulfill the ever-growing need.

This year, students have the opportunity to “purchase” tickets for a Canstruction Carnival event by bringing in canned food items or money.  This event will take place on Monday, November 24 and will include holiday themed carnival games hosted by our Family Council members and several faculty volunteers.  Tickets to participate are either $1/ticket or one canned food item/ticket, and students will have the opportunity to play games with their peers all in the efforts to combat food insecurity in Louisville.  Students can bring cans or cash in through Monday at lunch. We are also able to have students and families send donations through our Assumption Venmo account @AssumptionHighSchool. Be sure to include “Canstruction 2025, student first and last name, Assumption Family” in the description for the payment.

Students will also have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets during the event with cash.  If we reach our school-wide goal to supply 20,000 meals for Dare to Care, then students will earn spirit wear during the week of semester exams. Currently, we have collected cans/money for 5,422 meals. Please consider supporting our cause! We will also continue to offer family points, and endless bragging rights, to families who are able to rally together in support of this cause by donating the most cans or cash.  Right now, family Galway is taking the lead in cash and can donations, followed closely by family Limerick and Tullamore.  For more information about how you can support this event, reach out to Family Council Moderators Kristin Walsh Kristin.walsh@ahsrockets.org or Lauren Monaghan lauren.monaghan@ahsrockets.org.

Journey into the Past with Rose Theatre Company!

Last weekend, Anastasia closed with show-stopping performances that showcased the heart, soul, and incredible talent of every cast, crew, and tech member. Their passion and attention to detail made this musical unforgettable!

Rose Theatre Company is student-led, mission-driven, and community-forward, and every decision reflects those pillars. We are so proud of our Assumption students, faculty/staff, and families—and grateful to the young men from schools across Louisville who played essential roles on stage and behind the scenes.

  • And the magic didn’t stop there! On Wednesday, we welcomed Future Rockets to Rose Theatre Rocket Night, where they explored theatre skills both on and off stage:
  • Costume quick-change relay
  • Turntable demo from Anastasia
  • Song & choreography workshop
  • Performing with actors in front of family and friends

Plus, they left with adorable goodies like a “Together in Paris” necklace and autographed photos!

BLANKET LOUISVILLE COLLECTION: As we shared with our community this week, sophomore Kaitlyn Clements is in the hospital undergoing treatment for leukemia. As we continue to pray for her and her family, they would like us to help with something very important to Kaitlyn. She has been collecting blankets for Blanket Louisville for 10 years. This organization provides blankets to people experiencing homelessness in Louisville. Since Kaitlyn can’t participate this year, her family has asked that we continue this effort on her behalf. Her family will accept donations of new and gently used blankets in the Assumption and St. Raphael parking lots this Saturday, November 22, from 11:00-1:00. Please consider donating a blanket for this drive!

FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE SEMIFORMAL DANCE: On Saturday, November 22, the sophomore class officers are hosting the Freshman-Sophomore Semiformal Dance from 8:00-11:00 p.m. Every student and her guest must have a ticket that was purchased in advance.  Each student must also present her physical student ID or a picture of her student ID when entering.  Tickets will not be sold at the door. Students have received information about dance rules and expectations via SharePoint, email, and morning announcements.  To ensure student safety, all students and guests must arrive by 9:00 p.m. and may not leave until 10:30 p.m. All students will be monitored with the use of a passive alcohol sensor upon arrival and departure of the dance.
