October 17, 2025

Manager of Marketing and Admissions, Kelsey Gunter

When I’m asked to describe Open House, I often contemplate how best to respond. I typically describe Open House as the “Disney version” of Assumption because everything is on full display,  But when I dig deeper, there is a palpable excitement that takes over our building as more than half of the Assumption community willingly shows up on a Saturday afternoon to welcome Future Rockets and their families. It’s Assumption magic as hundreds of students, motivated by the love and passion for the Community of Assumption, share the many ways our newest Rockets can leave their stamp on Assumption.

During Open House, families of sixth, seventh, or eighth grade students are invited to explore Assumption and the things that matter most in their high school search. In recent years we have created an experience that allows every Future Rocket to have a personalized view of the ways she can find her unique excellence at Assumption. On Open House Day everything about our community is on full display from academics and clubs, athletics and intramurals, McAuley Scholars and Learning Differences, the family program and leadership opportunities, guidance and the achievement center, and so much more.

As we near the three-week countdown before this year’s Open House, we ask you, our community, to help us continue the legacy of Assumption by personally inviting a prospective family to our Open House on Saturday, November 8, between 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Families can register for the event online by visiting our website here.

Thank you for all that you do to support Assumption High School!

Dual Credit Partnerships

We have been busy registering our dual credit students for their courses for the fall. We partner with the University of Louisville, Bellarmine University, Jefferson Community & Technical College, and Western Kentucky University to offer 15 courses.  For the fall semester of this school year, we have 331 students taking 490 classes.

Additionally, students have been busy coming to RTI sessions to register for dual credit scholarships through KHEAA. These funds will pay for up to FOUR courses, both junior and senior year, for our students. Last year our students earned over $106,000 in dual credit scholarships and $55,000 in work ready Scholarships to pay for these courses. Many students are earning 9–12 college credit hours with some earning as many as 20 hours this year at no additional cost to their families!

MID-SEMESTER PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT CONFERENCE COMMUNICATION: This semester, teachers will be sending an email to the parents of any student whose grade in their class is a D or F as of Thursday, October 16.  We ask all parents who receive an email to respond in a timely fashion. Parents may request a conference virtually through Teams during the conference window of Tuesday, October 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A link will be provided in the teacher’s email. Of course, any parent may request a conference call via phone or team or in-person meeting with a teacher at any time during the school year to discuss a student’s progress in a course.  We appreciate your shared commitment to our partnership to best help our students achieve academic success.

PRE-WALK MOVIE NIGHT: On Thursday, October 23, the sophomore, junior, and senior class officers are hosting a joint outdoor pre-Walk movie night at The Assumption Green (4500 Champions Trace Lane) for the Classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028. All sophomores, juniors, and seniors may begin arriving at 7:30 p.m. for the movie, which will begin at 8:00 p.m. Parking will be available at The Green. There is no cost for the event. Students may bring chairs or blankets to sit on and their own food and drink. Coolers are not allowed. This event is for Assumption students only, and students must bring their student IDs. The movie will be over at 10:00 p.m. Students may leave before the movie concludes, but once they leave the event, there will be no re-entry. We hope all sophomores, juniors, and seniors will join us for this fun pre-Walk event! Please contact MERILOU MATTINGLY, LINDSEY PEETZ, or NICK ROGERS if you have any questions about the event.

WALK FOR ASSUMPTION: The Walk for Assumption will be held on Friday, October 24. Arrival time for the Walk is 9:15 a.m., and we will dismiss at approximately 11:45 a.m. The building will not open until 8:15 a.m., and after-school supervision will not be provided on this day. Please make arrangements for your daughter to be dropped off after 8:15 a.m. and picked up by no later than 12:00 p.m. PLEASE NOTE: October 24 will count as a full day of school for students, and they are expected to be in attendance. If your daughter is ill on the day of the Walk and unable to come to school, please call the attendance office prior to 9:15 a.m. to report her absence. Students who do not want to participate in the Walk for whatever reason and/or do not meet the participation requirements (see Walk information below) must still come to school for an alternate activity. Students who meet the Walk participation requirements but who cannot physically participate in the Walk due to a health condition need to come to school and participate in special non-walking activities designed specifically to allow them to still be actively involved in the Walk and all the fun that comes with it.

ALL SAINTS DAY AND ALL SOULS DAY:  November 1 and 2 are All Saints Day and All Souls Day in the Catholic Church, respectively, and both fall on a weekend this year.  Therefore, we will prayerfully recognize the family members of anyone in the AHS community who has died during the past year as well as all Assumption alumnae who have passed on at any time during a prayer service in students’ theology classes on November 3 or 4. We will ask students to share the names of any family members they may have lost this past year so they can be part of this special remembrance, and we invite you to do the same.  If you have lost a family member in the past calendar year, please email that person’s full name to Kathy Fleischer at Kathy.Fleischer@ahsrockets.org by Monday, October 27.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Wednesday, October 22 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance.  We will pray for the Charleville family freshmen and sophomores.  Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

As we get further into the school year, we want to remind families about the RTI enrichment opportunities available to all students each week from our various departments.  This week, we want to share with parents/guardians the enrichment offered by our Guidance and Counseling department.  This department continuously offers small connection groups and mental health activities including mindful walking, WAGS therapy dog visits, and group study skills.  Our college counselors have been offering opportunities for extended visits with colleges, FAFSA and scholarship information sessions, and workshops for college applications.

FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE PRE-ACT: All freshmen and sophomores will be taking the digital Pre-ACT on Tuesday, October 28.  Assumption will not hold classes on this day, and students will be dismissed at approximately 12:30. This test is excellent practice for the ACT, taken in the junior year, and it provides valuable data for our faculty and staff. Please help your daughter remember to eat a good breakfast, charge her computer, and get a good night’s sleep. Students will have access to a Desmos calculator during the test or can bring their preferred calculator from the approved list. You can read more about the ACT’s calculator policy HERE.

REMINDER ABOUT DELIVERIES: In an effort to teach our students about being accountable for their own belongings as well as to limit the number of visitors to school during the day and effectively monitor those visitors coming into the school, we have a policy that does NOT allow for student deliveries. Parents, please do not bring items (lunches, homework, bake sale items, sports equipment, presentations, papers, etc.) to school to drop off for your daughters. Our main office staff and athletic office staff have been instructed not to accept those deliveries. Thank you for your cooperation with these efforts.

SOCIAL SECURITY CARD:  Please make sure we have a copy of your daughter’s Social Security card on file so we can properly submit each student’s information to the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), which provides KEES money for college and scholarships for high school Dual Credit courses. We must have a copy of the physical card on file to be able to confirm the number is correct. Please note, only students living in Kentucky qualify for money through KHEAA. Indiana residents do not qualify.  Please contact registrar JENNY FRIEDENBERG with any questions.

WALK FOR ASSUMPTION: On Friday, October 24, we will hold our annual Walk for Assumption, an event to which our students make contributions to benefit the financial needs of our students. This year’s theme chosen by the students is Hallo Walk.  To participate in the Walk for Assumption, students must sell a minimum of four Rocket Raffle tickets AND turn in a signed Walk permission form. Tickets cost $25 each, and the purchaser is entered into a drawing for $20,000, which will take place at our Rocket Spectacular on Saturday, February 7, 2026. If the school reaches our goal of 5,000 tickets sold, not only will we have an amazing Walk for Assumption, but students will earn the day off from school on Friday, April 3, 2026, the Friday before spring break! We have many more fun incentives, along with their Rocket Raffle tickets and Walk permission form. We are encouraging the girls to reach out not only to their parents but to other people in their lives who would like the opportunity to support her and the Community of Assumption through the Walk and the Rocket Raffle. We hope that over the next week, you will help your daughter brainstorm ways that she can sell her tickets to help benefit the financial needs of our students and to make the Walk a success!  Here is the link that can be shared with your family and friends https://www.ahsrockets.org/rocket-raffle/

Collections of the students’ contributions will take place at lunches October 14 through Thursday, October 23. The deadline for collection is October 23 at 1:30 p.m. during the last lunch period. If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Farmer in Advancement at michelle.farmer@ahsrockets.org

ROSE THEATRE FALL PRODUCTION: Next month, Rose Theatre Company is proud to present its production of Anastasia. Based on the 1997 animated film, this beloved musical shares the story of Anya, a determined young woman who travels from St. Petersburg to Paris. Against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution, Anya and her unlikely companions embark on a journey to unravel the mystery of her past and find “home, love, and family.” Their journey invites us all to consider how we find where we truly belong and share our true selves with others. Performances run Thursday, November 6 through Sunday, November 16, and tickets can be purchased at www.cur8.com by searching “Assumption High School.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please reach out to us at rose.theatre@ahsrockets.org.

To celebrate Rose Theatre Company’s 25th anniversary season, we also invite you to the following Anastasia-related events:

  • Young audience members and their families can register here for a community “Tea and Treasures” afternoon on Sunday, October 26 and enjoy themed stations, trivia, prizes, and a sneak peek from the musical!
  • Schools can find information about our Tuesday, November 11 grade school performance for sixth- to eighth- graders on Assumption website’s Theatre Arts page.
  • Any Assumption theatre alumni can sign up here for our “Journey to the Past”-themed reunion on Saturday, November 15. This free gathering is a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate before our evening performance of Anastasia. Alumni are welcome to attend the reunion, the show, or both! Tickets to the evening performance are not included with an RSVP but are available through cur8.

CANDY DONATION REQUEST & ASSUMPTION FAMILY HALLOWEEN NIGHT: The Assumption Alumnae Association, along with the Advancement and Marketing & Admissions offices, are once again hosting the annual Family Halloween Night on Tuesday, October 28 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Current families are invited to donate a bag of candy to support this important engagement event. Please click here to sign up to donate candy. This event is open to all AHS alumnae, families, faculty, staff, and future Rockets but is most suited for elementary aged children and younger. FLAG FOOTBALL ROCKET NIGHT: 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are invited to join us for a special Flag Football Rocket Night on October 30 at 6:30 p.m. Future Rockets will get the chance to meet the players, watch them play in a team scrimmage, and then join them on the field to run drills. This will be a one-of-a-kind flag football event with hands-on experience and the opportunity to take home a special, limited-edition, Rocket receiver gloves to keep practicing at home. Sign up for the event using this link: https://www.ahsrockets.org/admissions/

ROSE AWARD NOMINATIONS: Do you know an Assumption employee who is a true role model and a positive influence on our community? We invite you to nominate a current administrator, faculty, or staff member who has made a significant difference in your life, your daughter’s, or your granddaughter’s – someone who embodies what it means to be a role model and a positive influence on our community. Thanks to a generous $5,000 grant from an anonymous donor, we have the chance to recognize a special employee who has changed someone’s life and who represents Assumption in a profound way. Please take a moment to submit your nomination. The deadline is October 24. Take a moment to share your story and help us celebrate the people who make Assumption extraordinary: Rose Award Nominations The award will be presented at the Thanksgiving Celebration on Tuesday, November 25.  If chosen, your nomination submission may be read at the prayer service. SENIOR ASSEMBLY: Parents of Seniors – On Tuesday, October 28, seniors will participate in an assembly centered around the award-winning documentary, The Hunting Ground.  Current statistics indicate that one in five women will be sexually assaulted in college.  The documentary features the stories of several victims of campus sexual assault and shows the emotional aftermath on the victims and their individual journeys for justice.  At the assembly, seniors will view the documentary and hear from guest speakers about campus resources, consent, and bystander empowerment.   We hope that this program will spark a discussion at home about the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses.  If you would like to view the documentary with your daughter to foster a follow-up discussion at home, the documentary is available for purchase or rent on Amazon.com: Amazon Link.  If you have any questions about this documentary or the assembly planned for seniors, please contact Dawn Deweese via email at dawn.deweese@ahsrockets.org

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID NIGHT: The 2026–2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. However, it is recommended to wait 2-3 weeks before completing it to ensure the system is running smoothly. Per KHEAA’s policy, we are unable to share the recording of last night’s college financial aid presentation. Instead, we encourage you to explore the resources below. Important note: Students should not use their Assumption email when completing the FAFSA.

Students will have access to a Desmos calculator during the test or can bring their preferred calculator from the approved list. You can read more about the ACT’s calculator policy HERE.
