Michelle Farmer, Executive Director of Advancement
On Monday, we came together as a community for our Walk Kickoff Assembly! The annual Walk for Assumption is a time when our students come together not only to walk, dress up, celebrate class colors, and share lots of laughter, but it’s also a time that we focus on achieving an important goal together, as a community!
The Family Council has drawn inspiration from the time of year and we’re doubling down on the spooky season here with the theme HALLOWALK. It’s important to know that all funds raised from the Rocket Raffle ticket sales directly benefit the financial needs of our students and their families. This year, over 40% of our student body received some form of tuition assistance, and this number continues to grow.
The Walk for Assumption will take place on Friday, October 24. As we shared with the students, this is the only schoolwide fundraiser hosted in conjunction with our annual Rocket Spectacular Benefit Dinner and Auction. Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, February 7, 2026!
To participate in the Walk, each student must sell a minimum of four Rocket Raffle tickets by Thursday, October 23 (tickets and permission slip can be turned in during their lunch period). The raffle drawing itself will take place at our Rocket Spectacular Benefit Dinner and Auction, where our $20,000 winner will be announced!
Our schoolwide goal is to sell 5,000+ Rocket Raffle tickets. While getting the day off school the Friday before Spring Break and other incentives are awesome, the real excitement comes from achieving this goal together and supporting one another.
All students came home with their tickets and permission slips on Tuesday. Tickets can also be purchased here Rocket Raffle – Assumption High School (ahsrockets.org). The students have lots of incentives in addition to a day off to help motivate them to sell! We encourage them to ask friends, family members, and neighbors. We can’t wait for this year’s Walk, and we know that together we can exceed our goal!

Thank you for supporting not only your daughter but our entire Assumption community. Working together, we all make an impact!

Perry Initiative Outreach Program
Last Saturday, nine Rockets proudly represented Assumption High School at the Perry Initiative Outreach Program, held at the University of Louisville. This nationally recognized, hands-on STEM experience introduces high school students, especially young women, to the exciting fields of orthopedic surgery and engineering. Participants engaged in mock surgical simulations, biomechanical engineering experiments, and mentorship sessions with leading professionals in healthcare and STEM.
Congratulations to Marielle, Kate, Vienna, Ellie Kate, Alexandra, Gracie, Gabrielle, Ashlynn, and Ava for being accepted into this competitive program! Out of over 120 applicants, these Rockets stood out for their ambition, curiosity, and commitment to exploring careers that change lives.
We’re so proud of their initiative and can’t wait to see where their talents take them next!

UPCOMING FALL BREAK – Thursday, October 9 – Monday, October 13: On our fall break holidays, school will not be in session. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 14. Remember that a doctor’s note must be provided if your daughter misses school the day before or after any holiday break. If your daughter is absent and does not have a doctor’s note for her absence before or after a break/holiday, her absences will count towards her cumulative absence totals for the semester and all missed assignments, tests, and quizzes will be penalized by 50%.

ALL SAINTS DAY AND ALL SOULS DAY: November 1 and 2 are All Saints Day and All Souls Day in the Catholic Church, respectively, and both fall on a weekend this year. Therefore, we will prayerfully recognize the family members of anyone in the AHS community who has died during the past year as well as all Assumption alumnae who have passed on at any time during a prayer service in students’ theology classes on November 3 or 4. We will ask students to share the names of any family members they may have lost this past year so they can be part of this special remembrance, and we invite you to do the same. If you have lost a family member in the past calendar year, please email that person’s full name to Kathy Fleischer at Kathy.Fleischer@ahsrockets.org by Monday, October 27.
ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Wednesday, October 22 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. We will be praying for the Charleville family freshmen and sophomores. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

Our Varsity Club and Family Council programs collaborated to put together the most epic celebration on Monday afternoon. Celebrating our fall athletes as they prepare for post-season competition, our Varsity Club honored the championship culture of our golf, cross country, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, and flag football teams. The school spirit was on full display as our cheer team and dance team performed to an excited crowd.
Our Family Council took over the event with a Kick-Off experience to begin our 42nd Annual Walk for Assumption Rocket Raffle fundraiser. In true Kick-Off spirit, our teachers and administrators took center stage in a Clue-style parody skit complete with dancing and a “who-done-it” mystery to celebrate a spooky season Hallowalk experience. We are looking forward to celebrating our 42nd Annual Walk for Assumption together later this month!

LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP FOR A KHEAA SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE FALL SEMESTER: We received the most recent report from KHEAA today and have several students still listed as having not completed the steps on KHEAA.com to receive the DUAL CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP that will pay for at least TWO of their fall courses. If your daughter was listed on our report as having not completed this, both the student and a parent received an email from Judy Fieldhouse this morning around 10:30. Please look to see if you received this email and make sure you complete this ASAP. The posted deadline is October 1 but as of this morning, the portal was still open. Please don’t miss out on the chance to let your tax dollars pay for this class for your daughter.
WALK FOR ASSUMPTION: On Friday, October 24, we will hold our annual Walk for Assumption, an event to which our students make contributions to benefit the financial needs of our students. This year’s theme chosen by the students is Hallowalk. To participate in the Walk for Assumption, students must sell a minimum of four Rocket Raffle tickets AND turn in a signed Walk permission form. Tickets cost $25 each, and the purchaser is entered into a drawing for $20,000, which will take place at our Rocket Spectacular on Saturday, February 7, 2026. If the school reaches our goal of 5,000 tickets sold, not only will we have an amazing Walk for Assumption, but students will earn the day off from school on Friday, April 3, 2026, the Friday before spring break! We have many more fun incentives, along with their Rocket Raffle tickets and Walk permission form. We are encouraging the girls to reach out not only to their parents but to other people in their lives who would like the opportunity to support her and the Community of Assumption through the Walk and the Rocket Raffle. We hope that over the next week, you will help your daughter brainstorm ways that she can sell her tickets to help benefit the financial needs of our students and to make the Walk a success! Here is the link that can be shared with your family and friends https://www.ahsrockets.org/rocket-raffle/
Collections of the students’ contributions will take place at lunches October 14 through Thursday, October 23. The deadline for collection is October 23 at 1:30 p.m. during the last lunch period. If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Farmer in Advancement at michelle.farmer@ahsrockets.org
PRE-WALK MOVIE NIGHT: On Thursday, October 23, the sophomore, junior, and senior class officers are hosting a joint outdoor pre-Walk movie night at The Assumption Green (4500 Champions Trace Lane) for the Classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028. All sophomores, juniors, and seniors may begin arriving at 7:30 p.m. for the movie, which will begin at 8:00 p.m. Parking will be available at The Green. There is no cost for the event. Students may bring chairs or blankets to sit on and their own food and drink. Coolers are not allowed. This event is for Assumption students only, and students must bring their student IDs. The movie will be over at 10:00 p.m. Students may leave before the movie concludes, but once they leave the event, there will be no re-entry. We hope all sophomores, juniors, and seniors will join us for this fun pre-Walk event! Please contact MERILOU MATTINGLY, LINDSEY PEETZ, or NICK ROGERS if you have any questions about the event.
ROSE THEATRE FALL PRODUCTION: Next month, Rose Theatre Company is proud to present its production of Anastasia. Based on the 1997 animated film, this beloved musical shares the story of Anya, a determined young woman who travels from St. Petersburg to Paris. Against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution, Anya and her unlikely companions embark on a journey to unravel the mystery of her past and find “home, love, and family.” Their journey invites us all to consider how we find where we truly belong and share our true selves with others. Performances run Thursday, November 6 through Sunday, November 16, and tickets can be purchased at www.cur8.com by searching “Assumption High School.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please reach out to us at rose.theatre@ahsrockets.org.
To celebrate Rose Theatre Company’s 25th anniversary season, we also invite you to the following Anastasia-related events:
- Young audience members and their families can register here for a community “Tea and Treasures” afternoon on Sunday, October 26 and enjoy themed stations, trivia, prizes, and a sneak peek from the musical!
- Schools can find information about our Tuesday, November 11 grade school performance for sixth- to eighth- graders on Assumption website’s Theatre Arts page.
- Any Assumption theatre alumni can sign up here for our “Journey to the Past”-themed reunion on Saturday, November 15. This free gathering is a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate before our evening performance of Anastasia. Alumni are welcome to attend the reunion, the show, or both! Tickets to the evening performance are not included with an RSVP but are available through cur8.
MID-SEMESTER PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT CONFERENCE COMMUNICATION: This semester, teachers will be sending an email to the parents of any student whose grade in their class is a D or F as of Thursday, October 16. We ask all parents who receive an email to respond in a timely fashion. Parents may request a conference virtually through Teams during the conference window of Tuesday, October 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A link will be provided in the teacher’s email. Of course, any parent may request a conference call via phone or team or in-person meeting with a teacher at any time during the school year to discuss a student’s progress in a course. We appreciate your shared commitment to our partnership to best help our students achieve academic success.
FRESHMAN-SOPHOMORE SEMIFORMAL DANCE: We hope that our freshmen and sophomores are looking forward to attending this year’s dance for their classes on Saturday, November 22. This dance is a traditional semiformal school dance, and students may choose to bring a guest if they wish, but guests are not required. We are aware that many students who are excited about attending have started shopping for the dance! With that in mind, our dean of students, Kamaria Wesley, will discuss dance policies and dress code with all freshman and sophomore students. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about the theme and ticket details in a class meeting and with reminder emails and announcements. Please reference the handbook Dance Dress Code Policy for more information.
CANDY DONATION REQUEST & ASSUMPTION FAMILY HALLOWEEN NIGHT: The Assumption Alumnae Association, along with the Advancement and Marketing & Admissions offices, are once again hosting the annual Family Halloween Night on Tuesday, October 28 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Current families are invited to donate a bag of candy to support this important engagement event. Please click here to sign up to donate candy. This event is open to all AHS alumnae, families, faculty, staff, and future Rockets but is most suited for elementary aged children and younger. There will be activities including trick or treating, pumpkin decorating, coloring, and more. For more information about the event, please contact ELISABETH CASSADY OR KELSEY GUNTER.
ROSE AWARD NOMINATIONS: Do you know an Assumption employee who is a true role model and a positive influence on our community? We invite you to nominate a current administrator, faculty, or staff member who has made a significant difference in your life, your daughter’s, or your granddaughter’s – someone who embodies what it means to be a role model and a positive influence on our community. Thanks to a generous $5,000 grant from an anonymous donor, we have the chance to recognize a special employee who has changed someone’s life and who represents Assumption in a profound way. Please take a moment to submit your nomination. The deadline is October 24. Take a moment to share your story and help us celebrate the people who make Assumption extraordinary: Rose Award Nominations The award will be presented at the Thanksgiving Celebration on Tuesday, November 25. If chosen, your nomination submission may be read at the prayer service. Past winners are Katie Hughbanks, Kelly Kirwan, Kathy Fleischer, Dawn Deweese, Angela Lincoln, Barry Haworth, Jackie Metry, Judi Erskine, James Sutherland, Mary Ann Steutermann, Janet Adkins, and Jessica Williams, along with several retired faculty and staff members. COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID NIGHT: The 2026–2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open. However, it is recommended to wait 2-3 weeks before completing it to ensure the system is running smoothly. Per KHEAA’s policy, we are unable to share the recording of last night’s College Financial Aid presentation. Instead, we encourage you to explore the resources below. Important Note: Students should not use their Assumption email when completing the FAFSA.

JUNIOR ACTS SERVICE HOURS: This is a reminder that the first seven (7) service hours for Junior ACTS are due on Friday October 17 for all students who are currently taking Catholic Social Teaching. These hours will need to be logged in and verified in MobileServe by 8 a.m. on October 18 for them to be approved and counted. The remaining eight (8) hours will be due on December 5. Fall break would be an excellent time to get some service in!

FRESHMAN WALK SLEEPOVER & WALK COLLECTIONS/PERMISSION FORMS: On Tuesday, October 7 in a class meeting, freshmen received detailed information about participating in our traditional Freshman Pre-Walk Sleepover. On Thursday, October 23, freshmen are invited to a Pre-Walk Sleepover in the gym. The cost of the Walk Sleepover is $5. In order to participate, freshmen need to turn in their Walk permission slip, sleepover permission slip, a minimum of four Rocket Raffle tickets, and $5. (due to gaming regulations, the $5.00 must be separate from the Rocket Raffle ticket purchase) The two signed permission slips, tickets, and $5 are due by the end of lunches on Wednesday, October 22. All freshmen are asked to turn in both permission slips even if a freshman is not planning to attend the sleepover. Freshmen should arrive for the sleepover between 7:00-7:30 p.m. and enter through the doors at the gym lobby.
