September 12, 2025

Over the course of the last 70 years, generations of faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to achieve our school’s vision to graduate young women who are socially responsible, committed to gospel living, lifelong learning, and a life of leadership and service.  One of the objectives of our 2015-2020 strategic plan, however, was for our faculty and staff to crystallize that vision and define Outcomes of an Assumption Education.  Over the course of the 2018-2019 school year, the faculty and staff worked together to collectively determine a list of skills that we were committed to ensuring every student at Assumption would learn before she graduated.  These outcomes were built on the four pillars of our mission statement – faith guides, compassion inspires, integrity matters, and excellence empowers – and designed to allow students to become the best version of themselves. Since that time, they have been at the forefront of every decision we have made in regard to our academic curriculum and co-curricular programming.

As we have worked to grow as a PLC school, we have become even more intentional about the fact that, in order for students to own and master their learning, we must also ensure that they are aware of and can speak to the learning outcomes we are supporting them to achieve.   We want them to be able to speak to the ways that they are growing toward each of these outcomes as they take advantage of the opportunities to hone these skills through both academic classes and RTI.  With this in mind, we took time this year to share these outcomes with your daughters in student-friendly language.

We call this vision the Assumption Advantage: the outcomes we commit to providing every Assumption student so she knows there is a place for her to learn and grow in mind, body, and spirit as a member of the community of Assumption.

Neon Night was a glowing success!

On Thursday evening, we proudly welcomed future Rockets, alumnae, and their families to cheer on our Rocket volleyball team as they faced off against St. Thomas Aquinas from Florida. Events like these offer a vibrant glimpse into the heart of Assumption’s culture, where tradition, community, and school spirit shine bright.

We invite our current families to help us spread the word! If you know a prospective Rocket family, please encourage them to attend one of our upcoming events and experience the Assumption culture firsthand. To explore all the exciting events we host for future Rockets, visit our website: ahsrockets.org/admissions-process/future-rocket-events

ACADEMIC BANQUET – MOVED TO SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28: Due to an unexpected scheduling issue with our venue, it will not be possible to hold our Academic Banquet at our previously announced date and time on this upcoming Sunday, September 14.  We are happy to announce, however, that our venue will be available to host us on Sunday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m.  We apologize for the unexpected change and any inconvenience that this may cause for families who have already arranged to attend this weekend.  All students and parents who were initially invited to attend the banquet should have received an email yesterday morning with the opportunity to RSVP by Thursday, September 18 to the new date or request a refund if unable to attend on the new date.  Please contact Jenny Friedenberg at jenny.friedenberg@ahsrockets.org with any questions.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Wednesday, September 17 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel.  Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance.  We will be praying for the Booterstown family juniors and seniors.  Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

This week over 100 students committed their RTI time to a service project led by juniors Molly Keiran and Piper Steurer to create letters of gratitude for the many veterans in the Louisville area who travel on Honor Flights to Washington D.C. For many veterans, their Honor Flight is a deeply emotional experience. Some, like Vietnam veterans, never received proper recognition when they returned home. These letters show them that their service is remembered, appreciated, and valued. Molly presented this project last fall as a way for the class of 2027 to give back to their community, inspired by the Honor Flight that her grandfather was taking. Molly knew not every veteran has someone to write them a letter, and she worked hard to change that.  Her passion has only grown in the last year, and she hopes that by writing letters, students help bridge generations, build community, and give veterans the recognition they deserve. A simple message of gratitude can mean the world to someone who sacrificed for our freedom.

ROCKET PARENT NETWORK: This is your last chance to join the Rocket Parent Network and/or order a Student/Parent Directory. The Rocket Parent Network is a trustworthy group of Assumption parents united to provide a drug- and alcohol-free social environment for teens. Parents commit to chaperoning their daughters and their friends to be sure that alcohol and drugs are not used while at their home. Membership dues are $10 per year, or $30 for four years. A directory is free in a parent’s first year of membership and may be purchased for $5 per year in subsequent years. If you would like to join the RPN, please visit this website:  RPN Website for a membership form. If you would like to order a parent directory, please contact Meghan Rogers at 458-9551 ext. 2539 or by email at meghan.rogers@ahsrockets.org.

RTC PARENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Assumption’s 70th birthday also marks a milestone for our theatre program: 25 years since students selected the name Rose Theatre Company! In honor of our special anniversary season, BRAVE NEW WORLDS, we’re looking for parents and guardians who would like to support our student artists, engage our audiences, and help make this RTC’s best year yet! We will hold a volunteer interest session on Saturday, September 27 from 2-3 p.m. in the Assumption cafeteria. Please email RTC Volunteer Coordinator Colleen Murphy (colleen.murphy@ahsrockets.org) with any questions.

FROM THE GUIDANCE & COUNSELING DEPARTMENT: September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and we wanted to let you know that students will have two suicide prevention programs during the week of September 22.  Our focus for these programs will be on destigmatizing mental health and providing students with a road map for resources and help.  One program will be with homerooms, and one will be with combined grade-level groups during an RTI session.

As you continue to dialogue with your daughter on the topics of mental health and suicide prevention, we wanted to provide you with some helpful resources:

  • Mental health from a teen’s perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BByqa7bhto&t=11s
  • Suicide Prevention Lifeline: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/
  • Crisis Text Line: https://www.crisistextline.org/text-us/
  • Mental health resources on our AHS website: https://www.ahsrockets.org/student-life/guidance/guidance-program-resources/

In addition to these resources, please contact your daughter’s school counselor if we can provide any support or assistance in mental health or if you would like additional information about our upcoming suicide prevention programming.

APO MEETING: The Assumption Parent Organization (APO) will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, September 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the café. We have a variety of opportunities for anyone interested in volunteering with AHS.  We are still looking for a couple of freshman class parent reps to help us with various communication pieces throughout the year and to serve as a liaison for freshman parents.  Please reach out to Michelle Farmer michelle.farmer@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.

DUAL CREDIT COURSE REGISTRATION: Attention, parents of students enrolled in dual credit (DC) courses: Your daughter received an email from Mrs. Fieldhouse with the links below as well as information about signing up for an RTI session to set up her KHEAA account and choose her scholarships.  She was invited to sign up for RTI sessions on Monday, September 15 or Monday September 29 to complete this step.  If the family does not sign up for the KHEAA account and request the scholarship, you will owe each university approximately $97 PER CREDIT HOUR for all courses. If you have questions regarding registration or paying for dual credit courses please contact our registrar, Jenny Friedenberg or send your daughter to the main office to see Ms. Friedenberg or Mrs. Fieldhouse.

FRANCE AND ITALY INTERNATIONAL TRIP:  Bonjour! Assumption Rockets are traveling to Paris, Nice, and the Italian Riviera during spring break in 2027.  If you missed the informational meeting this past Sunday, there will be another informational meeting on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. in Rm 120. Please enter through the Tyler Lane doors/theater lobby and NOT the Atrium as the building will be closed.  Here is also the link to join virtually:  Join the meeting now  Those registered by September 25 will save $300.  After September 25, the price will increase. Please email Madame Shirley at Jennifer.shirley@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.

COSTA RICA SCIENCE RESEARCH TRIP: We are so excited to offer an amazing Costa Rica Science Research Experience.  Students will conduct real field research as they study antibiotic potential with leaf cutter ants on a gorgeous chocolate farm in the heart of Costa Rica!  Trinity High School, Lexington Catholic, and Mercy Academy will join us on from May 24- June 2, 2025 for this opportunity, and dual credit from Bellarmine University is available for students that register and pay.  An informational session for parents of students who are interested will be held on Monday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Trinity High School cafeteria (Alumni Hall). This is open to current freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Please contact Johanna Schrage at Johanna.schrage@ahsrockets.org with any questions about this student trip:  STEM | Seeds of Change – SOC | Costa Rica

ARISE SERVICE TRIPS: ARISE service trips are offered to seniors and take place during Mission Week. Seniors who join an ARISE team will learn about and participate in service, prayer, community, and simplicity. We are hopeful that we will be able to offer two direct service trips where students will be able to serve in traditional capacities such as building projects and working in food pantries. These trips would go to Auxier, KY with Hand-in-Hand Ministries and Cincinnati, OH with Franciscan Ministries. We would also like to offer an advocacy service trip. This group of students will travel to Washington, DC to learn about the Sisters of Mercy’s work on the Critical Concern of immigration. Then they will plan to visit the Capitol to meet with our lawmakers about this issue and advocate on behalf of the Sisters of Mercy. In the past, seniors have said that their mission trips are some of the most amazing and profound experiences they had during their time at AHS. If your student is considering participating in an ARISE trip, please encourage her to commit to joining us.  Students had a chance to learn more during RTI this week and received a commitment form at that time.  I hope you will support and encourage your student to consider this wonderful opportunity. Commitment forms and deposits can be turned in beginning September 15 until September 26. There are limited spots available on each trip, so students will reserve their spot as they turn in their commitment form and deposit. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Katie Culver at Katie.culver@ahsrockets.org

GOVERNOR’S SCHOLARS PROGRAM (GSP): All juniors should have received an email from COLLEEN MURPHY this week that included the join code for a Team on Microsoft Teams where information about the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program will be distributed and student applications will be collected. GSP is a prestigious summer program for high school juniors in the state of Kentucky who plan to return to a Kentucky high school for their senior year. Students must complete a rigorous application process and submit a standardized test score. Acceptable tests include the ACT, SAT, and PSAT. Informational sessions about how to complete the application and maximize a student’s chances for admission were held during RTI time on September 3. If your daughter is interested in applying for this program, please encourage her to follow up on Dr. Murphy’s email and enter the join code on Teams!

ACTS PARENT SURVEY: On September 4, an email was sent to all parents and guardians of sophomores regarding the sophomore ACTS service program. Included in this email was a link to a form that asks for your insights about your student’s strengths and interests to help match her with an ACTS agency that will be a good fit. The survey also asks for information regarding your student’s immunizations so that we can make appropriate agency assignments. We ask that you complete this form by September 19. If you have any questions, please contact Katie Culver at katie.culver@ahsrockets.org

ATHLETICS MEET & GREET: On Tuesday, September 23, we are hosting an Athletics Meet & Greet Night for seventh-, eighth-, and current ninth-grade families to meet coaches, players, and parents from all sports. This is a great evening to hear a little bit about our athletic department and make contact with coaches and sports your daughter might be interested in. Fill out this form to let us know you are coming!
