President and the Principal, Mary Lang and Martha Tedesco
Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week, and we will be celebrating our amazing faculty and staff all week long for the great work that they do. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated staff of exceptional individuals who are hard-working, committed, innovative, creative, and caring. The Community of Assumption is grateful for these women and men who guide our students every day!
We have asked our students to take a moment next week to thank a faculty or staff member who has made a difference in their lives. We invite you to do the same. We also ask that you join our community in prayer as we ask God to bless our faculty and staff for the incredible blessing they are to the Community of Assumption.
God of all wisdom,
bless the faculty and staff of Assumption High School who give their heart and soul to their vocation of helping students learn and grow. Thank you for the special gifts that You have given them and for giving them a spirit of grace, understanding, and compassion. May they have strength and endurance to perform the many, many tasks they are responsible for, and may they know the deep gratitude of those they teach and those they serve.
We thank you for their creativity, work ethic, commitment, drive, and sense of humor. We thank you for the lives they have changed and transformed, for the countless ways they have taught by the example set by Jesus. During this National Teacher Appreciation Week, bless those faculty and staff who have contributed to the lives of others, inspiring them to become the very best versions of themselves.
Amen.

The Class of 2025 Gets Accepted
The Class of 2025 has achieved remarkable success, earning acceptance to over 140 colleges across 34 states, the District of Columbia, and two foreign countries. They have collectively secured nearly $31 million in scholarships, showcasing their dedication and hard work over the past four years. Impressively, 95% of the class has already earned college credit, giving them a valuable head start on their college transcripts. We couldn’t be prouder of each and every member of the Class of 2025. Congratulations on your outstanding achievements!

SCHOOL HOLIDAY: Friday, May 2, is a school holiday and the school will be closed.
AP EXAMS: AP exams will be held Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 16. Important information about the testing days and testing site as well as how to help your daughter be prepared can be found through this link: AP GENERAL INFORMATION AND SCHEDULE OF EXAMS
DRESS DOWN DAY – MAY 6: Assumption students recognize that they are blessed to enjoy such an outstanding education while many young women around the world can only dream of such opportunities. That’s why several AHS students who graduated in 2010 built a school in Cambodia before their senior year that AHS continues to support today. Now, another alumna, Erin McHugh ’12, is starting Casa Rosa, a transition home and safe haven for young women in Guatemala that will allow them to continue their education, grow in leadership, and discover their God-given potential. We are having a dress-down day on Tuesday, May 6 to support this great cause. Your daughter can participate for a minimum donation of $3. Of course, students must follow the handbook guidelines for appropriate dress. If you’d like to join this fundraising effort, feel free to send in a donation with your daughter!
FINE ARTS PROGRAMS: Please join us in celebrating the arts by attending one of the following events that showcase the talents of our Fine Arts students. All events take place in the Performing and Fine Arts Center (theater).
- Spring Music Concert: Tuesday May 6, at 6:30 p.m. – admission $5
- Visual Arts Show: Thursday May 8, at 6:30 p.m. – open admission

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet for the last time this semester on Tuesday, May 6 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. We will be praying for all faculty and staff. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

We are excited to announce the elected executive positions in our Assumption student government for the 2025-2026 school year. Earning the Senior Class President position and taking on the lead for her senior class of 2026 is Nikita Nair. Earning the Family Council President position and leading our schoolwide initiatives is senior Anna Conner. Congratulations to Nikita and Anna! We are grateful for all of those who ran for these positions as it shows the desire to lead is strong at Assumption! Our elections for general positions in Family Council and Class Officers at each of the grade levels will be held next week.
We are also excited to honor those students who have earned Christian Leadership Distinctions for the 2024-2025 school year. These students made the commitment to attend Leadership Education Opportunities throughout the school year, attend retreat, and participate in a variety of school-sponsored events in order to earn eligibility for this distinction. Those who were eligible completed a written defense of their leadership development throughout the school year. One junior wrote of her experience, “Through many LEO’s, I have learned that being a leader doesn’t just mean taking a step up and ‘calling all the shots.’ To be the best leader I can be it is important to know the group of people I am working with. In one LEO, I learned that it is important to identify who in a group is willing to work and who is not as willing. Having that deeper knowledge of the people you are working with can help you encourage everyone to strive to do their best efforts.” Additionally, one senior wrote, “As a senior, I am the oldest on my gymnastics team. I have learned how to not only advocate for my teammates but also teach them how to advocate for themselves. I have learned to be a leader by showing up to practice and keeping a positive attitude when things don’t go my way. It truly changes the culture when someone decides to keep a positive attitude even through tough times. It inspires those around them and allows for the entire team dynamic to be more positive and productive. Being a leader is not just about leading, but being a good example, and that is what I strive to do every day.”
Christian Leadership Distinctions are earned in four different categories, Advocacy, Faith-in-Action, Global Issues, and Social Justice. These students will be recognized at our two spring honors ceremonies: Senior Honors Assembly on May 14 and Underclasswoman Honors Ceremony on May 9:
- Advocacy: Mila Halpin (12), Kate Jarboe (10), Aislinn Ryan (11), Nicki Younger (12)
- Faith-in-Action: Molly Bass (12), Agnes Boyer (10), Eleanor Keith (10), Annie Gilbert (11), Anna Graves (12), Chiagoziem Ibeawuchi (9), Kate Jarboe (10), Molly Keiran (10), Kaylee Miller (9), Ella O’Donnell (11), Jacey Pham (9) Emma Rutledge (11), Kate Schardein (10), Piper Steurer (10), Bridget Wolfram (12), Rosie Wolfram (10), Mary Zabrocki (11)
- Global Issues: Elizabeth Hammond (11), Kate Jarboe (10), Harper Swinney (10), Chloe Wells (9)
- Social Justice: Molly Bass (12), Kate Jarboe (10)

ASSUMPTION HONORS CEREMONY: The Assumption Honors Ceremony will be held again this year at Assumption for our underclasswomen. At this event, we will celebrate and accomplishments of our underclasswomen in the areas of academics, service, fine arts, leadership, and honor scholarship recipients. We will also honor the service of faculty and staff as we award the annual Karen Russ Excellence in Teaching Award to a faculty member and the Excellence Award for Staff and bid farewell to teachers who are retiring from Assumption this school year. This assembly’s objectives include spotlighting the accomplishments of the current school year, encouraging and challenging students toward goals for the following year, and celebrating our year as a community. The assembly will be held in the gym from 8:30-9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 9.
TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students received an email announcing tuition for the 2025-2026 school year on March 26, 2025. This year we will continue to use Blackbaud Tuition Management (BBTM) for registration and tuition for our current students. BBTM has automatically re-enrolled your account for the 2025-2026 school year, and you should have received a verification email from BBTM with instructions on how to log in to your 2025-2026 account. If you need further assistance getting logged in, please call Blackbaud directly at 1-888-868-8828. Please log in, set up your payment plans and bank information, and pay your $225 registration fee by May 1, 2025, to secure your daughter’s enrollment for the upcoming school year. PLEASE NOTE: Blackbaud doesn’t allow us to create a one-time invoice/payment on our side prior to July 1 so you will see $225 as “billed” in July. Please log into BBTM and submit a one-time payment using the instructions below. Once that is paid, you will see the July amount reduced by $225. If your daughter will not be returning for the 2025-2026 school year, please contact our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER. If you have any questions about your account, please contact JESSICA THOMPSON .
END-OF-THE-YEAR TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS:
A member of our IT Department will share the following information with our students in one of their May class meetings.
- All students must turn in their HP laptop to the Boeckmann Lab by their last day of classes. Seniors must turn in their HP laptops on their last day of classes or after their last exam. We must have them turned in before graduation. All other students need to turn them in on or before May 23.
- Graduating seniors may purchase their HP laptops for $5.00. However, they must turn them in and tell us then if they want to purchase them so we can remove the school software. The graduates may pick up their purchased HP laptops starting the week of June 9. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- If a senior wants to purchase her HP laptop, the $5.00 fee, (cash or check, no credit cards) will be collected when she comes to pick it up. The HP laptops not purchased by the seniors will be placed in our school loaner pool or will be used for parts to fix other computers.
- The PC warranty and accidental damage protection ends the day before graduation. Also, graduated seniors’ AHS email and all Microsoft products will be deactivated on August 1. Please make the proper accommodations for removing all important information from these places.
- Rising seniors may pick up their HP laptops starting the week of July 14 and rising sophomores and juniors starting the week of July 21. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. HP laptops can only be given to students who come with their school-issued case to pick up. This is a requirement for our accidental damage insurance.
- Students who are experiencing any hardware issues (physical damage such as cracked screens, damaged plastics, etc.) with their HP laptops must bring their devices to the Boeckmann Lab within 30 days of the accidental damage.
PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR: Our current sophomores and juniors will soon be given detailed information about parking for next year. Students need to have their driver’s license by August 1 to apply for a parking space before school starts. We ask that students submit their own parking requests online and work with Ms. Wesley and Mrs. Park to resolve any difficulties they have related to parking. Detailed information on parking will be shared with students so they can submit the necessary materials and meet stated deadlines.
- Monday, July 14, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for submitting a parking request for space assignment before school starts
- Monday, July 14, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for having passengers set up in CarpoolToSchool.com (the number of other AHS students in the carpool on this date will determine the priority for assigning parking).
If your daughter wants to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It builds community, is good for the environment, and helps Assumption be a good neighbor by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road in the morning and afternoons. As has been the case for many, priority in assigning parking will be given to students with carpools and will not be based on seniority.
CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: Assumption is pleased to announce that we will again partner with CarpoolToSchool.com for the 2025-2026 school year. This online service creates an Assumption-only network that allows parents and students to set up carpools to and/or from school. Requests for carpools can also be made on the site. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should be receiving an email from CarpoolToSchool.com in mid-May inviting them to participate (check your junk folder if you don’t see it in your Inbox). Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are interested in using this service (instead of having their daughters do it themselves) may log in to CarpoolToSchool and create a new account or access an already existing account; just “request a new password” if you don’t remember what you set up previously. Parents who have general questions about CarpoolToSchool may contact Tatum Park in the main office.
MERCY AMBASSADORS PROGRAM: The Mercy Ambassadors Program (MAP) is our exchange student program with our partner school, Santa Ethnea, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In this program, Assumption students host a student from Argentina for a month during the school year and then travel to Argentina for a month in the following summer to experience a full immersion in the language and culture of her partner student. It is an amazing experience for students to grow both academically and personally. Through this program, our students gain meaningful lifelong relationships and experiences they never will forget. We are hosting information sessions for students who are interested in applying to the program and want to extend the invitation to these meetings to parents as it truly is a whole family experience. We will have a meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 in room 206 and at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday May 8 in the chapel. Students will also be able to attend information meetings during RTI time on Wednesday, May 7. To apply, students must attend one of these meetings; attendance is not mandatory for parents. If you have questions, please reach out to Katie Culver, katie.culver@ahsrockets.org.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES: The Summer Opportunities list is updated weekly. You can find the list on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2025. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like general/pre-college, leadership, STEM, etc. Many applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.
ACT TEST PREP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep, an innovative test training program that cracks the code on improving ACT scores. TorchPrep has continually yielded outstanding ACT scores for our students. Last year, Assumption students who participated in TorchPrep saw an average score increase of 2.4 points. All courses include 30 hours of direct training, four full-length simulated tests, TorchPrep training manual, customized study plan, and guaranteed results. A TorchPrep session will be offered at AHS from June 9-12, 2025. For details and registration, please follow this link: https://torchprep.com/louisville-act-test-prep/. TorchPrep is available to answer your questions and support your college access.
ROCKET NIGHT AT THE BATS: Kick off your summer with a night of baseball and family fun with the Louisville Bats. The annual Rocket Night at the Bats, sponsored by the AHS Alumnae Association, is being held on Thursday, June 5, at 6:35 p.m., at Louisville Slugger Field. All alumnae, families, and friends are invited and can enjoy food and drink specials, while also celebrating your Rocket Pride! Plus, a portion of every ticket sold will be donated back to AHS in support of tuition assistance. Get your ticket here. For more information, contact ABBY MARTIN.

SENIOR PROM: Our seniors will have a special holiday from school on the day of their prom, Friday, May 9. The Senior Prom will be held in the Da Vinci Room at the Mellwood Art Center and starts at 6:30 p.m. The seniors and their guests need to arrive at the Da Vinci Room between 6 and 7 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Students arriving after 7:15 p.m. will not be admitted to the dance unless they have made prior arrangements with Ms. Wesley, dean of students. Prom ends at 11 p.m. If something unfortunate would happen between now and May 9 and your daughter’s planned guest is no longer going to attend with her, please encourage your daughter to come anyway—she can come alone, with a group of girls, or with a friend (lots of our girls do this anyway so she won’t stand out). We just want her to come and celebrate this final, very special dance with the rest of her class, regardless of who does or does not come with her.
SENIOR EVENTS WEBPAGE: A reminder that important information about upcoming senior schedules and events is available on the AHS website on the Class of 2025 senior webpage linked here: CLASS OF 2025 SENIOR EVENTS WEBPAGE
SENIOR EXIT SURVEYS: It’s May, and we can’t believe our seniors will be leaving us soon! Before they go, we wanted to provide an opportunity for them to give us feedback on their Assumption experience. This week, seniors were sent a senior exit survey to complete. They were also invited to chat with their principal, Mrs. Tedesco, in person about any of their answers to the survey questions as she hosted “Popsicles with the Principal” during all lunches on Tuesday in the senior courtyard. Please encourage your senior daughter to complete her survey by next Monday, May 12.
CLASS OF 2025 YARD SIGNS: Seniors received their Class of 2025 yard sign at the end of Senior Celebration Day. We have asked the seniors to take a picture with their yard sign and upload it here.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT GRADUATION TICKETS: If your family will not be using all ten (10) of the allotted graduation tickets given your senior two weeks ago, please have her bring them to the main office so they can be distributed to another senior who needs extra tickets. Thank you!

JUNIOR RING CEREMONY: Junior Ring Ceremony is Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the Assumption High School Gym. Students will need to arrive no later than 10:45 a.m. and should meet their homeroom teacher and family in the cafeteria (enter through the Senior Courtyard doors). Guests may enter through the CAC doors upon arrival to be seated. We are looking forward to this very special celebration for our juniors as we mark the passing of leadership to the Class of 2026. Special reminder about rings/jewelry: Your student will need to bring her own ring/jewelry with her and hold onto it for the ceremony.
COLLEGE WORKSHOP for the CLASS OF 2026: The Guidance and Counseling Department is thrilled to offer a College Workshop on August 1 for the Class of 2026. Due to the ever-changing landscape of college admission, particularly early college application deadlines, housing deadlines, etc., the college counselors are providing this workshop opportunity for seniors to get started on their application process before school begins. We feel it is imperative that all members of the Class of 2026 attend this event to gain a clear understanding of the college process, particularly those details specific to the Assumption process. Our goal and the focus of this workshop is to prepare your student for the many nuances of the college process. The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. We will begin and end the day in the Performing and Fine Arts Center (theater), and lunch will be provided with gluten-free options available. Seniors must bring their laptop computer (fully charged) and their water bottle. Please reach out to your college counselor with any questions Leigh Jackson (A-K) & Kim Habich (L-Z). We look forward to seeing ALL members of the Class of 2026 on August 1.

JUNIOR ACTS SERVICE HOURS: On Monday and Thursday, sophomores learned the details about their junior ACTS requirement in their theology classes. They are encouraged to begin service this over the summer. Before they begin serving, they will need to complete an online commitment form that requires a guardian’s signature. Please see the syllabus for all the details JUNIOR ACTS SYLLABUS. If you have any questions, please reach out the service-learning director, Katie Culver (katie.culver@ahsrockets.org)

PHYSICALS: A reminder to all parents of Assumption athletes: It is required by the KHSAA that your daughter have a current physical on file with the athletic office before she may participate in tryouts or practice of any kind. This physical must be submitted on the KHSAA physical form. Fall sports tryouts begin July 15. Please call and make a doctor’s appointment today with your daughter’s primary care physician.
