Lead4Change is a national program designed to teach students leadership skills by working with a team to implement a service project that addresses a community need. It’s the largest privately funded leadership development program in the nation. Each group identifies a social or environmental need, partners with a non-profit agency that addresses that issue, and implements a service project designed to address the problem. Lead4Change requires several work products to be submitted that demonstrate the team’s ability to come up with a goal that’s both challenging but realistic, engage in detailed action planning, market the project, evaluate its success, write a proposal to further impact, and deliver a video pitch to Lead4Change requesting grant funds so that the work of the project can continue into the future. In addition to these skills, students also learn about collaboration, time management, and creative problem-solving.
This year, Assumption had a record-breaking number of teams successfully completed Lead4Change projects – TEN. We recognized all ten teams in a previous Rocket Report, but since that, we’ve learned even more exciting news to share. FIVE of those ten teams were awarded grant funds for their partner agencies to continue the great work their projects began! Special congratulations go out to these teams:
- 5 Teens for 14 (juniors Ali Bixler, Giorgia Carraro, Hayden Hennessey, Jenna Nunn, and Adele Warren) – $8,640 for the Lesley and Rhyan Prather Foundation to support women, children, and families dealing with life-altering tragedies
- Fostering Future Friends (sophomores Lilli Burton, Brenley Hagan, and Ashlynn Kiesler) – $4,803 to the Fives Intralogistics Charitable Foundation to support children in foster care
- Hopeful Horizons (sophomores Gabrielle Buschemeyer, Molly Kieran, Madelyn Lynch, and Megan Oeswein) – $8,000 for SPARC Hope to support single parents in need
- Live to Give (juniors Ella Brown, Kara Hobgood, Leah Johnson, and Kate Lucas) – $8,000 to His Blessings Box to individuals and families experiencing poverty
- Prep the Paws (juniors Kayla Blalock, Addison Kuhn, and Eva Robinson) – $4,348.86 to the Kentucky Humane Society to support the care of shelter animals
These students together have made it possible for Lead4Change to invest $33,791.86 to address critical needs in the Louisville community! Sarah Culver, Program Manager with Lead4Change complimented these students and Assumption’s Service Learning Program: “I just want to commend your students on their work. It is clear that their service hours in many cases fuel or spark the project and purpose. Your teams do a fantastic job of partnering with local non-profits to support their work instead of reinventing the wheel. As a result, the projects tend to be stronger and make the investment of grant dollars very worthwhile.” Our students’ hard work and dedication have paid off in many ways. Their faith, compassion, integrity, and excellence have come together in creative ways through this initiative and will have a big impact on the community into the future.

Family Competition Winner
As our year comes closer to an end, it’s time to celebrate our family competition champion. At our spring pep rally this week, we announced that this year’s winner is the BOOTERSTOWN FAMILY! As a congratulations to Booterstown, all Booterstown family members may enjoy wearing spirit wear (following all spirit wear rules listed in the handbook) during final exams in May. Booterstown worked hard collecting for Canstruction, attending Assumption events, participating in collections, and performing well at our Family Olympics, which helped them earn their win. Congratulations to our Booterstown family on all their hard work throughout the year! Additionally, we held our annual bleacher dance competition at our pep rally. Congratulations to the SENIOR class for winning the bleacher dance competition!

END-OF-THE-YEAR TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS:
A member of our IT Department will share the following information with our students in one of their May class meetings.
- All students must turn in their HP laptop to the Boeckmann Lab by their last day of classes. Seniors must turn in their HP laptops on their last day of classes or after their last exam. We must have them turned in before graduation. All other students need to turn them in on or before May 23.
- Graduating seniors may purchase their HP laptops for $5.00. However, they must turn them in and tell us then if they want to purchase them so we can remove the school software. The graduates may pick up their purchased HP laptops starting the week of June 9. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- If a senior wants to purchase her HP laptop, the $5.00 fee, (cash or check, no credit cards) will be collected when she comes to pick it up. The HP laptops not purchased by the seniors will be placed in our school loaner pool or will be used for parts to fix other computers.
- The PC warranty and accidental damage protection ends the day before graduation. Also, graduated seniors’ AHS email and all Microsoft products will be deactivated on August 1. Please make the proper accommodations for removing all important information from these places.
- Rising seniors may pick up their HP laptops starting the week of July 14 and rising sophomores and juniors starting the week of July 21. Come to the Boeckmann Lab Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. HP laptops can only be given to students who come with their school-issued case to pick up. This is a requirement for our accidental damage insurance.
- Students who are experiencing any hardware issues (physical damage such as cracked screens, damaged plastics, etc.) with their HP laptops must bring their devices to the Boeckmann Lab within 30 days of the accidental damage.
AP EXAMS: AP exams will be held Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 16. Important information about the testing days and testing site as well as how to help your daughter be prepared can be found through this link: AP GENERAL INFORMATION AND SCHEDULE OF EXAMS
PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR: Our current sophomores and juniors will soon be given detailed information about parking for next year. Students need to have their driver’s license by August 1 to apply for a parking space before school starts. We ask that students submit their own parking requests online and work with Mrs. Wesley and Mrs. Park to resolve any difficulties they have related to parking. Detailed information on parking will be shared with students so they can submit the necessary materials and meet stated deadlines.
- Monday, July 14, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for submitting a parking request for space assignment before school starts
- Monday, July 14, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for having passengers set up in CarpoolToSchool.com (the number of other AHS students in the carpool on this date will determine the priority for assigning parking).
If your daughter wants to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It builds community, is good for the environment, and helps Assumption be a good neighbor by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road in the morning and afternoons. As has been the case for many, priority in assigning parking will be given to students with carpools and will not be based on seniority.
CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: Assumption is pleased to announce that we will again partner with CarpoolToSchool.com for the 2025-2026 school year. This online service creates an Assumption-only network that allows parents and students to set up carpools to and/or from school. Requests for carpools can also be made on the site. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should be receiving an email from CarpoolToSchool.com in mid-May inviting them to participate (check your junk folder if you don’t see it in your Inbox). Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are interested in using this service (instead of having their daughters do it themselves) may log in to CarpoolToSchool and create a new account or access an already existing account; just “request a new password” if you don’t remember what you set up previously. Parents who have general questions about CarpoolToSchool may contact Tatum Park in the main office.
MERCY AMBASSADORS PROGRAM: The Mercy Ambassadors Program (MAP) is our exchange student program with our partner school, Santa Ethnea, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In this program, Assumption students host a student from Argentina for a month during the school year and then travel to Argentina for a month in the following summer to experience a full immersion in the language and culture of her partner student. It is an amazing experience for students to grow both academically and personally. Through this program, our students gain meaningful lifelong relationships and experiences they will next forget. We are hosting information sessions for students who are interested in applying to the program and want to extend the invitation to these meetings to parents as it truly is a whole family experience. We will have a meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 in room 206 and at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday May 8 in the chapel. Students will also be able to attend information meetings during RTI time on Wednesday May 7. To apply, students must attend one of these meetings; attendance is not mandatory for parents. If you have questions, please reach out to Katie Culver, katie.culver@ahsrockets.org.
ASSUMPTION PARENT ORGANIZATION (APO) NEWS:
- Teacher Appreciation: As we near the end of this school year, we’d like to take some time to show the AHS faculty and staff how much we appreciate all they do for our daughters. During the week of May 5-9, we are planning to show our appreciation to the faculty and staff. We are asking parents to contribute to this event, if so inclined, by sending in gift cards or monetary donations. You can send these in with your daughters or drop them off to the main office to the attention of Tricia Ferree in the Advancement Department. You can also send monetary donations to the AHS Venmo account @Assumption High School with “Faculty/Staff Appreciation” in the description line. If possible, please send these in by May 5. Any donation is appreciated.
- Call for Class Representatives: Are you interested in getting more involved in the APO? We are looking for class representatives for the 2025-2026 school year. For more information, please contact Lindsay Finley (APO President) at finleylindsay@gmail.com.
DRIVER’S PERMIT SCHOOL VERIFICATION FORMS: Assumption has received the official school verification form for students scheduled to take the permit test. Students have been directed to email Amy Schelb in order to request a school verification form. Before receiving the form, students must have an appointment made with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as the verification form is only valid for two months. Please encourage your daughter to email Amy Schelb well in advance of her appointment so that there is ample time to complete this process.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES: The Summer Opportunities list is updated weekly. You can find the list on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2025. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like general/pre-college, leadership, STEM, etc. Many applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.
TORCHPREP ACT SUMMER INTENSIVE CAMP: A TorchPrep session will be offered at AHS from June 9-12, 2025. COLLEGE WORKSHOP for the CLASS OF 2026: The Guidance and Counseling Department is thrilled to offer a College Workshop on August 1 for the Class of 2026. Due to the ever-changing landscape of college admission, particularly early college application deadlines, housing deadlines, etc., the college counselors are providing this workshop opportunity for seniors to get started on their application process before school begins. We feel it is imperative that all members of the Class of 2026 attend this event to gain a clear understanding of the college process, particularly those details specific to the Assumption process. Our goal and the focus of this workshop is to prepare your student for the many nuances of the college process. The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. We will begin and end the day in the Performing and Fine Arts Center (theater), and lunch will be provided, with gluten-free options available.
