April 11, 2025

Tomorrow, we will host our Mother-Daughter Breakfast, the first of many culminating ceremonies leading up to graduation for our seniors. This is always a bittersweet time as we begin to say goodbye to our seniors, who are about to embark on the next step of their journey. But it’s also a time to celebrate them and how well-equipped they are for all that lies ahead.
One of the key goals of our multi-faceted strategic plan is centered on college readiness, ensuring our students are well-prepared for their future endeavors. Research indicates that exposure to college-level coursework in high school is the most effective way to prepare students for the college experience. Currently, Assumption High School offers 40 college-level courses through both Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit (DC) programs.
While most are familiar with the national AP program, the DC program is a lessen known pathway to earning college credit in high school. The main difference is how college credit is earned. AP courses require students to pass a College Board exam for potential credit, whereas DC courses offer guaranteed college credit upon successful completion. In order to teach DC courses, faculty members are required to take 18 hours of mastery level courses in their specific content area and must be approved by the college or university that is granting the college credit. Assumption currently offers DC courses through three separate colleges and universities. While other schools have chosen not to offer DC courses because of the steep qualifications required of their faculty, Assumption continues to commit to Dual Credit which aligns with our mission to provide every student an opportunity to begin their college transcript in high school.
We are equally proud to announce that an impressive 95% of our senior class will graduate with college credit, which exceeds our ambitious strategic plan goal! This not only prepares them for a bright future but also helps reduce the overall cost of college.
As we celebrate our seniors’ achievements and look forward to their future accomplishments, we are reminded of the importance of our mission to provide a comprehensive and transformative education. Together, we will continue to support and guide our students as they begin to write the next chapter in the ongoing story of their academic and personal success.

Compassion Connections – Service Fair
As a part of RTI time, over 10 local agencies visited Assumption to connect with students and provide information about how they can complete service at their agencies. These agencies ranged from helping the homeless, support for women and families, care and maintenance of the Earth, as well as advocacy for those with developmental disabilities, the elderly, and animals. Then in the following days students had the opportunity to do service projects for the various agencies. Service projects included things like making blankets for homeless individuals, making pet toys, packing care packages, etc.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, April 15 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. We will be praying for all juniors. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us!
PARENT PRAYER – PINK & WHITE EDITION: Each year before the Pink & White Game, the parents of Catholic high school students come together for a joint prayer service. All parents are invited to this year’s Pink & White Parent Prayer on Thursday, April 24, at 8:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Academy. For those who usually come to our own AHS Parent Prayer on Tuesdays, please be aware that we will NOT meet on April 23 since the special service is on April 24.
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

It is time for us to start passing the leadership torch to next year’s rising student leaders. Students have been presented with a number of potential leadership opportunities for the 2025-2026 school year, and with any position that requires an application or election, there is great opportunity to get involved and be part of the decision making for our school. Students have had the opportunity to apply for Retreat Leaders, Advancement Council, Recruitment Team, and Campus Ministry Leadership Team. On Monday, April 14, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will hear about student government positions available including Family Council Representatives, Class Officers and Freshman Mentors with formal information sessions to follow the next day. We will encourage students to consider these leadership positions and how they enhance their own experience and offer an extension of their own strengths. However, students should never feel burdened by these leadership positions, and we would advise parents/guardians to have a conversation with students about what seems manageable considering pre-existing commitments for next year including athletics, work commitments, other clubs and organization involvement, etc. We look forward to seeing the myriad ways our students show leadership in our building and encourage all students to consider taking leadership in their involvement in our school!

DRIVER’S PERMIT SCHOOL VERIFICATION FORMS: Assumption has received the official school verification form for students scheduled to take the permit test. Students have been directed to email Amy Schelb in order to request a school verification form. Before receiving the form, students must have an appointment made with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as the verification form is only valid for two months. Please encourage your daughter to email Amy Schelb well in advance of her appointment so that there is ample time to complete this process.
ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING PLAY – THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG: Welcome to opening night of the Cornley Drama Society’s newest production, The Murder at Haversham Manor. What could go wrong? Well, everything. As things quickly go from bad to disastrous, this 1920s whodunit features everything you never wanted in a show—an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Come see these accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it to final curtain, with hilarious consequences! Performances will be April 24 and 27 at 7 p.m. and April 26 and 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at CUR8.com. You can use this link or go to CUR8 and search for “Assumption.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact us at rose.theatre@ahsrockets.org.
PINK AND WHITE GAME: The eighteenth annual Pink and White Game will be held at Trinity High School on Friday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door. Students may purchase tickets during lunches in the cafeteria beginning Tuesday, April 22; tickets are $10.00. Assumption, Sacred Heart, St. X, and Trinity each receive a ticket allotment to sell to their communities. We are encouraging students to arrange with their family and friends at St. X, Trinity, and Sacred Heart to buy their tickets at their own schools. To ensure that all students have the opportunity to buy a ticket from Assumption’s allotted tickets, on Tuesday, April 22, each student may buy only one ticket for herself. For the remainder of the week, students may buy a maximum of two tickets per day. Tickets will be sold to students only. There will be no outside sales. Please note: All schools have agreed that there will be no tailgating at this event, and we highly encourage carpooling to the game!

COLLEGE WORKSHOP for the CLASS OF 2026: The Guidance and Counseling Department is thrilled to offer a College Workshop on August 1 for the Class of 2026. Due to the ever-changing landscape of college admission, particularly early college application deadlines, housing deadlines, etc., the college counselors are providing this workshop opportunity for seniors to get started on their application process before school begins. We feel it is imperative that all members of the Class of 2026 attend this event to gain a clear understanding of the college process, particularly those details specific to the Assumption process. Our goal and the focus of this workshop is to prepare your student for the many nuances of the college process. The workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. We will begin and end the day in the Performing and Fine Arts Center (theater), and lunch will be provided, with gluten-free options available. Seniors must bring their laptop computer (fully charged) and their water bottle. Please reach out to your college counselor with any questions Leigh Jackson (A-K) & Kim Habich (L-Z).
