March 21, 2025

On Monday, we held our annual Prevention Assembly planned by our Substance Abuse Committee. Like last year, we continued our educational approach of individualizing our programs by choosing topics that were relevant and grade-level appropriate. We hope that you will take time to ask your daughters about what they learned!
Here is a summary of what each grade covered:
- Freshmen- Wellness leaders led a lesson on peer pressure and making good choices which included information and experiential role plays.
- Sophomores– A pulmonary medical professional offered her expertise on vaping.
- Juniors- MADD hosted a program on drinking and driving.
- Seniors– An alum and a parent of an alum shared their expertise and experiences with addiction.
We hope these presentations have led to meaningful discussions at home on prevention and good decision making.

NATIONAL ACT FOR JUNIORS: On Tuesday, March 25, all juniors will take the National ACT at Assumption at 8:15 a.m. Juniors will be dismissed at 12:45 on this day. Just like in October, there is no makeup date for this ACT at AHS, no signup is needed on the part of each family, and this test fee is covered by your tuition dollars. Please encourage your daughter to consult the link sent to them from Mrs. Fieldhouse: Everything you need to know to prepare for the MARCH 25 ACT. Encourage her to bookmark this link for ACT practice, information about making an account to see her scores, and to access TAKING THE ACT: A STUDENT GUIDE. This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE or COLLEEN MURPHY you have any questions.
SENIOR ASSEMBLY: Parents of Seniors – On Tuesday, March 25, seniors will participate in an assembly centered around the award-winning documentary, The Hunting Ground. Current statistics indicate that one in five women will be sexually assaulted in college. The documentary features the stories of several victims of campus sexual assault and shows the emotional aftermath on the victims and their individual journeys for justice. At the assembly, seniors will view the documentary and hear from guest speakers about campus resources, consent, and bystander empowerment. We hope that this program will spark a discussion at home about the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses. If you would like to view the documentary with your daughter to foster a follow-up discussion at home, the documentary is available for purchase or rent on Amazon.com: Amazon Link. If you have any questions about this documentary or the assembly planned for seniors, please contact Lynnzi Hoehler via email at Lynnzi.Hoehler@AHSRockets.org
SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, March 28 since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive. School will resume on Monday, April 7.

LENTEN OPPORTUNITIES:
- Throughout Lent, we continue the Rice Bowl collection to support the important work of Catholic Relief Services, which meets the needs of people most in need around the world and here at home in Louisville. Feel free to send in a donation with your daughter! AHS is sponsoring a dress-down day on Thursday, March 27 to support the Rice Bowl effort. For a minimum donation of $3, students don’t have to wear their uniforms and can dress according to the guidelines in the handbook.
- Students have several opportunities to experience the sacraments during the Middle Block. Below is a tentative schedule of the RTI sessions Fr. Michael Schultz will present for Mass and Reconciliation. Students receive information in their weekly Campus Ministry email and can sign up in the RTI Scheduler.

- Thursday, March 20: #1-Reconciliation / #2-Reconciliation / #3-Mass
- Wednesday, March 26: #1-Reconciliation / #2-Mass / #3-Reconciliation

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, March 25 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. We will be praying for all freshmen. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

We continue to expand our RTI enrichment opportunities to students each week. Next week, we are excited to expand our Senior Series by bringing in two therapists from the Louisville area to unpack conflict resolution strategies for our seniors who will be living in dorm-like situations next school year. While those who will live in dorms will likely benefit the most from this session, conflict resolution is an excellent life skill for students no matter the living situation.
We will also welcome Chris Ratterman, CEO of Shady Rays, back to the building on Wednesday to meet with our students about growing a successful business. His session this fall was a huge hit among our Entrepreneurship classes and those who chose to sign up!
Finally, for our athletes and growing leaders, we continue to offer LEOs (Leadership Education Opportunities) to all students on the topic of motivating others. Our athletic director and Dr. Vanessa Shannon will team up to talk about how to get people motivated around a common idea or goal. We can’t wait to see our students encouraging one another and learning the nuances of group-think!

TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students received an email last Friday announcing tuition for the 2025-2026 school year. This year we will continue using Blackbaud Tuition Management (BBTM) for registration and tuition. BBTM will automatically re-enroll your account in March for the 2025-2026 school year. Once that process is complete, you will receive a verification email from BBTM with instructions on how to log in to your 2025-26 account or call them directly to make any changes (payment plan, banking information, etc.) Your registration fee will be included with your July payment. If your daughter will not be returning for the 2025-26 school year, please contact our registrar, KATHY FLEISCHER, for the proper withdrawal process so we have release of records authorization. If you have any questions about your account, please contact JESSICA THOMPSON
2025-2026 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES: We collected the signed course selection forms from your daughters Tuesday and Wednesday, March 18 and 19. If you have not finalized and submitted her course selections, please do ASAP this weekend and turn in on Monday, March 24 so we may begin working on our 2025-2026 master schedule. If your daughter still has some questions or concerns about courses, have her contact her dean of studies. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, please contact IT Specialist Brent.Miller@ahsrockets.org or Registrar Kathy Fleischer at Kathy.Fleischer@ahsrockets.org
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: Assumption is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, April 17. Student donors must be at least 16 years old. Students who are 16 must have parental permission; students 17 and older may give without parental permission. Student sign-ups will begin soon. We encourage you to talk with your daughter about how to prepare for being a donor if she expresses interest. The Red Cross provides more information for students at this link: Red Cross Student Guide to Blood Donation.pdf.
ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that absences directly before or after Spring Break will count toward semester absence totals. If your daughter is sick before or after Spring Break, please submit a medical note to the attendance office so that this can be noted on your daughter’s attendance record. Full details about our attendance policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.
DRIVER’S EDUCATION CLASSES IN APRIL: The Kentucky Driving School is offering classroom instruction and private driving lessons at Assumption on April 7-11. Please click on this link for additional information: SPRING DRIVER’S EDUCATION CLASSES
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES: The Summer Opportunities list is updated weekly. You can find the list on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2025. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like general/pre-college, leadership, STEM, etc. Many applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.
TORCHPREP ACT SUMMER INTENSIVE CAMP: A TorchPrep session will be offered at AHS from June 9-12, 2025. The ACT will change significantly by September 2025, so this is the last year for your daughter to take the current version. It’s a great opportunity to achieve target scores for college admissions and scholarships. For details and registration, please follow this link: https://torchprep.com/louisville-act-test-prep/. TorchPrep is available to answer your questions and support your college access.
AHS SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION NOW OPEN: We are excited to announce that registration for the 2025 camp schedule is now open! Assumption is offering over 35 stimulating enrichment and athletic summer camps for girls and boys in grades K-9. Click here to learn more. Please contact Lauren Lega with any questions.
FROM THE ADVANCEMENT OFFICE: Today is the last day of the Rocket Madness family participation fundraiser! If you haven’t yet, please consider making a donation in support of a program, activity, or fund you care about. The goal is participation so every donation – no matter the dollar amount – makes a difference. We also want to see which class has the most Rocket pride! The grade with the highest participation will get a sweet treat at lunch next week. Plus, as an added thank you, donations of $125 or more will get a limited-edition AHS Owala water bottle. Make your donation here or learn more. For more information, contact ABBY MARTIN.

SENIORS – MOTHER/DAUGHTER BREAKFAST: We will celebrate seniors and their mothers or mother figures at the Mother/Daughter Breakfast on Saturday, April 12, at the Crown Plaza Hotel by the airport (830 Phillips Ln, Louisville, KY 40209) from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Seniors will be learning more about this during a class meeting next week. Optional pictures will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. More information to come on those details. We are planning on you and your daughter attending, but if a conflict makes this impossible, please let MARY ANN STEUTERMANN know by THURSDAY, March 27 if you are NOT able to attend.
NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES: Beginning April 7, as FLIK works to close out the school year with our graduating class, seniors who have a negative FLIK lunch account will not be able to charge their account until the account is made positive.
LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. Most colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2025. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. We ask that students submit all of this information by Monday, March 24, 2025.

SERVICE HOURS REMINDER: This is a reminder that juniors who are currently taking Catholic Social Teaching have the remainder of their 15 Junior ACTS service hours due on Thursday, May 1. All hours will need to be completed, logged, and verified in MobileServe by 8:10 a.m. to receive full credit. Please reach out to Katie Culver katie.culver@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.
JUNIOR PROM SEMIFORMAL DANCE: On Saturday, April 12, the junior class is hosting a juniors-only prom from 8:30-11:00 p.m. Every student and her guest must have a ticket that was purchased in advance. Each student must also present her student ID when entering. Tickets will be sold during all lunches April 7-11, and the cost is $20.00 per ticket. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Students have received information about dance rules and expectations via SharePoint, email, and class meetings. In order to ensure student safety, all students and guests must arrive by 9:00 p.m. and may not leave until 10:30 p.m. All students will be monitored with the use of a passive alcohol sensor upon arrival and departure of the dance.

CONGRATULATIONS, ACTS ANGELS!: We are so proud of the Class of 2027 for completing their sophomore ACTS service! The 263 members of the Class of 2027 ventured out to 37 agencies each week across Louisville to make and serve meals, comfort the sick, care for small children, provide help to teachers and students, and take care of the environment. Their work amounted to 12,672 hours of service! We are proud of their dedication and commitment to following in the footsteps of our foundress, Catherine McAuley, to GO OUT and serve our larger community. Agencies have sent many messages singing the praises of these wonderful students as well as expressing gratitude for the gift of this time and hard work. We look forward to celebrating this class at their ACTS closing prayer service on March 25 during community time!

SERVICE HOURS REMINDER: This is a reminder that all freshman students have five service hours for their ACTS freshman service requirement due by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 (the day before spring break begins). These hours need to be logged and verified on MobileServe by that time to receive full credit. Please reach out to Katie Culver katie.culver@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.
