The Office of Leadership and Engagement is excited to share the growing opportunities available to our students during Rockets Taking Initiative (RTI) time during the school day. While the primary focus of this time remains meeting the academic needs of each student, there are also several opportunities for students to grow beyond the classroom in the areas of mind, body and spirit. Our Campus Ministry department has been hosting weekly Mass and Reconciliation opportunities for students with our Chaplain, Fr. Michael Schultz, as well as offering Bible Study and Encounter faith-sharing experiences. Our Athletic department, in collaboration with Leadership & Engagement, has been offering yoga and walking sessions to allow our students the chance to add movement into their school day to increase focus in the classroom. Additionally, sports performance psychologist Dr. Vanessa Shannon visits weekly to build healthy, resilient mindsets for our scholar athletes and all students. Finally, we are providing additional opportunities for students to learn about leadership, advocacy and global issues through our Leadership Educational Opportunities (LEO) experiences. Delivered by members of our faculty, staff, and administration, our students have the chance to learn different leadership skills to be successful as well as how to effect change in our world.
Coming up, we have several exciting opportunities to share with our students:
- Spring Senior Series: This guest speaker program will empower our seniors with vital skills, ensuring a confident transition to their next chapter. The series will begin with financial literacy lessons on Wednesday, March 19 and dorm room conflict resolution lessons on Wednesday, March 26. We encourage our Class of 2025 to take advantage of these opportunities as they look ahead to life beyond Assumption. Sessions focused on the realities of living independently will continue after spring break.
- Entrepreneurship Guest Speaker: We will welcome Chris Ratterman, founder and CEO of Shady Rays, back this semester to meet with our students in Entrepreneurship classes. His session will be on Wednesday, March 26 and will be open to all interested students.
- Lenten Reconciliation and Mass: In this season of Lent, Fr. Schultz will spend additional time with our students preparing for the Holy Tridium in reconciliation and faith-sharing opportunities.
- Leadership Educational Opportunities: Leadership skills lessons will be available, covering several topics including different leadership styles, diffusion of responsibility, how to motivate others and more. We will also provide opportunities to learn different ways to advocate about issues related to the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy, disability awareness, and fair trade (the last of which are taught to our students by our students!).
Students can sign up for enrichment opportunities through the RTI Scheduler each day. We continue to grow these opportunities each week, and we hope to meet the various needs of all our students. Please reach out to Kristin Walsh at Kristin.walsh@ahsrockets.org with any questions or suggestions for continued growth.

Best Buddies Cornhole Tournament
The Assumption chapter of Best Buddies hosted a cornhole tournament this week in coordination with Special Olympics and Dreams with Wings. Our students welcomed a wonderful group of young adults from the Dreams with Wings community to enjoy music, snacks, and friendly competition on a beautiful day! We were so excited that so many students and their Best Buddies showed up to make this day a great one!

LEAD & LEARN DAY – Friday, March 21: While our faculty and staff will be participating in a professional development day, our students will utilize this day from home as a LEAD & Learn Day. As they were in December, students will be asked to identify how they can most productively utilize the day to achieve academic and co-curricular outcomes for the semester and may choose to engage in a variety of activities to accomplish these goals. These could include catching up on homework or working ahead on a project, including completing work for Day 3 classes, writing college essays or completing college applications, making a college visit, completing service hours, or engaging in standardized test prep. This could also include some time for rest, mindfulness, or exercise. As a final step in solidifying their purposeful use of the day, students will be required to submit their plans for the day by 12:00 p.m. via email through an Attendance Forms Survey. This survey will serve as their virtual attendance for the day.
SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, March 28 since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive. School will resume on Monday, April 7.

LENTEN OPPORTUNITIES:
- Throughout Lent, we continue the Rice Bowl collection to support the important work of Catholic Relief Services, which meets the needs of people most in need around the world and here at home in Louisville. Feel free to send in a donation with your daughter!

CURRENT STUDENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
- PARENT POWERSCHOOL LOG IN FOR 2025-2026 REGISTRATION: Parents, please log into your parent PowerSchool account to register your daughter for classes next year. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, when you go to the login screen for PowerSchool, just click on the link “Having trouble signing in?” and follow the directions to obtain a forgotten username or forgotten password. Please contact kathy.fleischer@ahsrockets.org or brent.miller@ahsrockets.org if you have trouble logging in!
- 2025-2026 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES: Your daughter consulted with her teachers for class suggestions on Monday and Tuesday of this week. If you have not already, please have a conversation with your daughter about her classes for next year before she enters her courses into Powerschool this weekend. We ask that she print the selections and bring them to school to obtain teacher signatures and turn in the parent signed course selections no later than Wednesday, March 19. PLEASE NOTE: You are not able to use the PowerSchool app to access the registration link. It must be at https://ahsvps1.ahsrockets.org/public/
FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIP LETTER: Financial aid and scholarship letters were emailed to families on March 3 via the email address in FACTS or on file with the admissions office. If you applied for financial aid or a scholarship, you hopefully have received your notification letter by now. If your daughter received a scholarship, the scholarship award was also included in the financial aid letter. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis, and if your daughter did not receive a scholarship for the coming year, she has an opportunity to apply again for the 2025-2026 school year. With over 1,000 applications for scholarships, it is always a difficult decision when it comes to making awards. If you do have any questions regarding financial aid awards or would like to file an appeal for an additional award, please contact our Executive Director of Finance, Megan Whitler, at Megan.Whitler@ahsrockets.org or 271-2520.
ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that absences directly before or after Spring Break will count toward semester absence totals. If your daughter is sick before or after Spring Break, please submit a medical note to the Attendance Office so that this can be noted on your daughter’s attendance record. Full details about our attendance policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.
DRIVER’S EDUCATION CLASSES IN APRIL: The Kentucky Driving School is offering classroom instruction and private driving lessons at Assumption on April 7-11. Please click on this link for additional information: SPRING DRIVER’S EDUCATION CLASSES

We have gotten requests for the information shared by Rhett Barbour about the TorchPrep session offered at AHS from June 9-12, 2025. The ACT will change significantly by September 2025, so this is the last year for your daughter to take the current version. It’s a great opportunity to achieve target scores for college admissions and scholarships. For details and registration, please follow this link: https://torchprep.com/louisville-act-test-prep/. TorchPrep is available to answer your questions and support your college access.

SENIORS – MOTHER/DAUGHTER BREAKFAST: We will celebrate seniors and their mothers or mother figures at the Mother/Daughter Breakfast on Saturday, April 12 at the Crown Plaza Hotel by the airport (830 Phillips Ln, Louisville, KY 40209) from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Seniors will be learning more about this during a class meeting next week. Optional pictures will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. More information to come on those details. We are planning on you and your daughter attending, but if a conflict makes this impossible, please let MARY ANN STEUTERMANN know by THURSDAY, March 27 if you are NOT able to attend.
NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES: Beginning April 7, as FLIK works to close out the school year with our graduating class, seniors who have a negative FLIK lunch account will not be able to charge their account until the account is made positive.
SENIOR ASSEMBLY: Parents of Seniors – On Tuesday, March 25, seniors will participate in an assembly centered around the award-winning documentary, The Hunting Ground. Current statistics indicate that one in five women will be sexually assaulted in college. The documentary features the stories of several victims of campus sexual assault and shows the emotional aftermath on the victims and their individual journeys for justice. At the assembly, seniors will view the documentary and hear from guest speakers about campus resources, consent, and bystander empowerment. We hope that this program will spark a discussion at home about the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses. If you would like to view the documentary with your daughter to foster a follow-up discussion at home, the documentary is available for purchase or rent on Amazon.com: Amazon Link. If you have any questions about this documentary or the assembly planned for seniors, please contact Lynnzi Hoehler via email at Lynnzi.Hoehler@AHSRockets.org
LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2025. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. We ask that students submit all of this information by Monday, March 24, 2025.
DRESS CODE FOR SENIOR PROM: Seniors will receive information about their senior prom their upcoming class meeting. Senior prom will be held Friday, May 9, at the Mellwood Art Center from 6-11 p.m. Unlike other Assumption dances, the senior prom is a formal dance, and our Dean of Students, Kamaria Wesley, will review information about our dress code for a formal dance with the seniors; she will also email information about the dress code for the dance to all the seniors. Ms. Wesley recommends that students ask parents for advice in following the dress code guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with other specific information about senior prom in class meetings and with reminder emails and announcements.

NATIONAL ACT FOR JUNIORS: On Tuesday, March 25, all juniors will take the National ACT at Assumption at 8:15 a.m. Juniors will be dismissed at 12:45 on this day. Just like in October, there is no makeup date for this ACT at AHS, no signup is needed on the part of each family, and this test fee is covered by your tuition dollars. Please encourage your daughter to consult the link sent to them from Mrs. Fieldhouse: Everything you need to know to prepare for the MARCH 25 ACT. Encourage her to bookmark this link for ACT practice, information about making an account to see her scores, and to access TAKING THE ACT: A STUDENT GUIDE. This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE or COLLEEN MURPHY you have any questions.

CURRENT FRESHMAN REGISTRATION PARENT NIGHT: Thanks to those parents in the Class of 2028 who joined us for this information night last week. During the event, Dean of Studies Theresa Schuhmann reviewed the information sessions covering the registration process that have been and will be shared with the freshmen. The first is designed to introduce students to the language of the registration process so that they can be active and informed participants in the process. The second covers the logistical details of the process including due dates and deadlines. If you were unable to attend, the PowerPoint that was used as part of this presentation is linked here.
