Pope Francis has stated that “God’s mercy transforms human hearts; it enables us, through the experience of a faithful love, to become merciful in turn.” During this Mission Week, our students have fully experienced how to be merciful and grounded in faithful love through their Mission Week activities. They have learned that they are valuable people, that everyone has dignity and worth, and what they do and say really does make a difference! In the end, whether experiencing something as big as a mission trip or something as small as an act of kindness, our students’ hearts have grown fully and faithfully. Our hope is that they have been inspired to continue to “live their mission” throughout the year – intellectually, physically, spiritually, and interpersonally. Thank you for your prayers and support of your daughters during this very special week!

TED Talks
Our 3rd annual Assumption TED Talks took place this week as a part of Mission Week! This started as a senior dream from alumna, Mary Claire Schmidt ’23. She envisioned an opportunity for students to share lessons they’ve learned through pivotal experiences in their life. The young women selected to speak this year did an excellent job with sharing their stories, speaking in front of large audiences, and being vulnerable. Through the TED Talks, we are connected on a deeper level as a school, a community, and a family. We are so appreciative of these students for sharing what has significantly impacted them, and for inspiring those around them to believe in themselves!TED Talk Students (left to right): Kate Jarboe ’27 – Emcee, Mackenzie Smith ’26, Bridget Wolfram ’25, Amina Bektasevic ’26, Bailey Blair ’25

MISSION WEEK HOLIDAY: There is no school on Friday, February 28.
CURRENT FRESHMAN PARENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION NIGHT: Attention, all freshman parents: On Thursday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. please join Dean of Studies Theresa Schuhmann and Class of 2028 counselor Amy Cundiff for an online meeting in which they will provide information about the registration and course selection process for all freshman parents. We highly recommend you take advantage of this important informational session to help your daughters plan their course of study for their sophomore year. A link to the meeting will be emailed next week.

ASH WEDNESDAY: Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 5. Therefore, we will all gather as a community in the AHS gym for a prayer service centered around receiving ashes. The prayer service is first thing on Wednesday so that all sophomores will be able to leave for ACTS immediately after the service concludes.
ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, March 4 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. We will be praying for our Limerick family freshmen and sophomores. Please join us!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

As a follow up from Mission Week, students will work during Community Time to develop their own personal mission statements to guide their experience at Assumption as well as beyond. Creating a clear mission statement is important because it helps students more clearly define their purpose and values. Using it as a guide, students make more meaningful decisions and can share themselves more authentically with others. We will display these mission statements in our main hallway next week as a way to honor the work they’ve done over Mission Week as both an individual and a community who supports one another.

MID-SEMESTER PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT CONFERENCE COMMUNICATION: This semester, teachers will be sending an email to the parents of any student whose grade in their class is a D or F as of Thursday, March 6. We ask all parents who receive an email to respond in a timely fashion. Parents may request a conference virtually through Teams during the conference window of Tuesday, March 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A link will be provided in the teacher’s email. Of course, any parent may request a conference call via phone or team or in-person meeting with a teacher at any time during the school year to discuss a student’s progress in a course. We appreciate your shared commitment to our partnership to best help our students achieve academic success.
ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that absences directly before or after Spring Break will count toward semester absence totals. If your daughter is sick before or after Spring Break, please submit a medical note to the Attendance Office so that this can be noted on your daughter’s attendance record. Full details about our attendance policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.

JUNIOR PROM: The Junior Prom will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the Assumption gym. The junior class moderators and class officers have been hard at work in the process of planning the details for the big semiformal event, and many juniors have already started shopping for the dance. With this in mind, our Dean of Students, Kamaria Wesley, will visit junior class meetings to review information about our dress code for dances with the students and answer any general questions they might have; she will email information about the dress code for the dance to all the juniors. Please take a few minutes to review the dress code with your daughter so you can help her know what is expected as she is deciding what to wear to the event. As you will see in the information, Ms. Wesley recommends that they ask parents for advice in following the guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with information about the theme and ticket details in a class meeting and with reminder emails and announcements.
