Tricia Ferree, Manager of Special Events
This past Saturday night, we hosted our 44th Annual Rocket Spectacular, one of the longest running and most successful fundraising events in our community. It was another amazing year with over 450 attendees, including our amazing volunteers.
Even more exciting, we had another record-breaking year and shattered all previous fundraising records. While we are still crunching numbers, early estimates indicate we raised an all-time high of over $600,000 (net)!
Rocket Spectacular continues to be our largest fundraiser and greatest source of support for the financial needs of our students. In just the past five years alone, we have raised nearly $2.5 million through Rocket Spectacular to support students who demonstrate financial need.
We also congratulate our Tuition Raffle Winner, Denise Bruneau – parent of Ellie Fisher ‘28, and our $20,000 Rocket Raffle Winner, Ashlee Harding.
Our deepest appreciation and heartfelt gratitude go out to so many of our current families. Your support of Assumption’s mission is what makes the magic happen. Whether you bought Rocket Raffle tickets, secured or donated an auction item, volunteered your time, or attended the event, you made a difference! Because of you, even more young women will have the opportunity to enjoy a superior Assumption education than ever before.

CHEER NATIONALS SEND-OFF
Thursday, our students got to watch our cheer team perform before they left for Nationals, wishing them luck and love as they leave it all on the mat in Orlando! Students were so enthusiastic, packing the bleachers and cheering with all their might. We wish our cheer team the best of luck! This spirited send-off took place during RTI. This is one of the MANY opportunities we offer students so that they can continue to create a unique daily schedule that works best for them.

FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, February 8, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students— freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Tickets may be purchased in advance via GoFan or at the door the night of the dance. Tickets are $25 per couple and $10 for each additional daughter. The dance theme is “Dads at the Disco” and will be a silent disco! Guests are invited to dress for the theme but, of course, themed attire is not required. Music will be provided by Assumption’s very own DJ, Jared Ramirez. Hope to see you there! https://gofan.co/event/3086429?schoolId=KY6124

UPCOMING WINTER BREAK: School will be closed for students (faculty/staff will participate in professional development) for Winter Break from Friday, February 14, through Monday, February 17. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 18.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, February 11 from 8:15-8:45 a.m. in the AHS chapel. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. We will be praying for our Tullamore family juniors and seniors. Please join us!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: All Assumption parents and alumnae are invited to share prayer intentions. Periodically, we will include the line of “prayer intentions posted online by AHS parents and alumnae” as part of our morning prayer over the P.A. Likewise, feel free to include the intentions you find there in your own personal prayer. To participate, please follow this link.

This week our Wellness Leaders have been providing an opportunity for our student body to celebrate one another through positive affirmation. The club, open to all ages, sold positive affirmation candy-grams during all lunches, which will be distributed in homerooms. Students had the opportunity to purchase a treat to accompany a positive message in celebration of friendship and positivity. Our Humane Action team is also focusing on providing positive experiences for animals in Kentucky by preparing for Animal Action Day on February 18, hosted by The Arrow Fund. On this day students will speak on behalf of animals across the state in our state capital. Two of our seniors, along with Penny and Lindsey Peetz, our Health and PE teacher, attended a taping of Great Day Live to share their advocacy and preparation for this event. We are proud of our students for recognizing the needs of all in our community and being leaders in our school and in Louisville.

ATTENDANCE UPDATE: As you likely know, a number of schools have had to close and move to online learning (NTI) in the past few weeks due to high number of absences related to flu and other contagious illnesses. Currently, the Archdiocese of Louisville requires a school to close if its hits a threshold of 20% of staff and students out due to illness. AHS has continued to monitor absences during this peak of cold/flu season. As a school, we have remained at 10% or less of total absences (for illness and non-illness related reasons) per day among our student and staff population. As we navigate through this cold and flu season, we want to emphasize the importance of managing attendance if your daughter is sick. Please report all absences to the Attendance Office daily. If your daughter is ill, please do not send her to school. Based on our attendance policies, a doctor’s note is highly recommended in order to support absences due to illness.
KHEAA DUAL CREDIT SCHOLARSHIPS: Is your daughter enrolled in a spring dual credit course? Does she still have remaining KHEAA scholarships? If you are unsure about either of these things, please ask your daughter and have her sign up for the KHEAA RTI session on Wednesday, February 12. Mrs. Fieldhouse and Mrs. Fleischer will help her navigate the KHEAA portal and show her how to apply for a scholarship if she qualifies. TORCHPREP ACT SUMMER INTENSIVE CAMP: Thanks to the families who attended our college night last week. We have gotten requests for the information shared by Rhett Barbour about the TorchPrep session offered at AHS from June 9-12, 2025. The ACT will change significantly by September 2025, so this is the last year for your daughter to take the current version. It’s a great opportunity to achieve target scores for college admissions and scholarships. For details and registration, please follow this link: https://torchprep.com/louisville-act-test-prep/. TorchPrep is available to answer your questions and support your college access.
REMINDERS AND REQUESTS ABOUT MORNING DROP-OFF AND AFTERNOON PICK-UP – CARPOOL LANE: The parking lot proctors and parents in the carpool lane would like to remind you that drivers need to pull up as far as possible in the carpool lane before stopping, and that once the vehicle has pulled up as far as possible behind the car in front of it and stops, the student is to get out of the car and then walk along the sidewalk to the entrance of her choice. Please do not stop short so your daughter will be close to her preferred entrance. When you stop short, it causes the carpool lane to stop and traffic to back up on Bardstown Road. Also, please be sure to follow the directions of the parking lot proctors so that traffic can continue to run smoothly. We appreciate your kind consideration of the students and staff in the parking lot.
BETA CLUB INFORMATION FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Qualifying sophomores and juniors will be invited to join Beta Club this month for the 2025-2026 school year. Beta Club is an organization dedicated to honoring academic achievement and encouraging school and community service. Qualifying students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and no more than two demerits on their discipline record. Members are required to attend 75% of scheduled meetings. School-related absences will not be factored into this. They must complete 20 service hours their junior year and 20 service hours their senior year. Members must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA and may not accumulate more than two demerits (equal to six detentions) throughout their membership. Parents/Guardians of qualifying students will receive an invitation letter by email. Qualifying students will receive an email invitation as well. There is a one-time membership fee of $35 to join. Details for the application process, which includes attending one of several possible discernment meetings and a discipline check, will be included in the invitation emails. *Current junior class Beta Club members will not receive an invitation as they are already members, and their membership will roll over into their senior year as long as they attend the senior discernment meeting and meet all qualifications at the end of the school year.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS) APPLICATIONS: Completed hard copy applications are due by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 (before Mission Week) to the Guidance office. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DEADLINE. The application requires both student and parent/guardian signatures. Remember, only sophomores and juniors who attended one of the NHS application informational meetings held in January and who met the GPA and discipline requirements may apply. Any questions? Contact NHS adviser Kim Habich.
ROCKET PARENT NETWORK (RPN) UPDATE: SAVE THE DATE! The Rocket Parent Network invites you to “save the date” for their next speaker program on February 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the AHS theater. The presentation will focus on helping your daughters through feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed. They will host the parents of three daughters and a local therapist. This program will also be offered online with a link coming to the Rocket Report in the next few weeks.

MISSION WEEK: Mission Week is Monday, February 24 – Thursday, February 27. We will begin school each morning one hour later at 9:10 a.m. and dismiss each day at 3:00 p.m. We believe that Mission Week activities are so important that we suspend classes for the week; all students are required to attend and participate in the activities scheduled, both on and off campus. All attendance policies apply during Mission Week–if your daughter is ill and unable to participate on a given day, please call the attendance office as usual. If at all possible, please do not schedule medical appointments for your daughter on days when she will be participating in activities off campus. During Mission Week, before-school supervision will be provided in the cafeteria as usual beginning at 7:15 a.m. each day. After-school supervision will also be provided each day in the cafeteria until 4:30 p.m. as usual. There is no school on Friday, February 28. More details about Mission Week were sent in a Special Message from the Principal email on Wednesday, January 29 and can also be accessed through this link: SPECIAL MESSAGE – MISSION WEEK 2025
BLOOM THEATRE PROJECT: Bringing Life Onstage and Offstage through Ministry (BLOOM) is Assumption’s social justice theatre project and annual student theatre festival. This year’s production, titled “Live It Loud,” will take place on Friday, February 21, and Saturday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m. The project features four student-written plays based on the Mission Week theme, “Live Your Mission.” Rose Theatre Company invites you to experience these original works FREE of charge. General admission. No tickets required. If you or anyone in your party requires assistance or handicap accessibility, please contact ANDREW STAIRS.

MISSION WEEK PERMISSION FORMS FOR SENIOR PARENTS: This week, seniors were asked to complete a detailed permission form for Mission Week activities which will require your electronic signature at the end of the form. Please ask your daughter about this if she does not mention it to you. Senior permission forms are due on Thursday, February 13 by 3:00 p.m., and senior service hours need to be submitted to MobileServe by Tuesday, March 4 at 3:00 p.m.

MISSION WEEK FORM FOR JUNIORS: Juniors received detailed forms for Mission Week activities yesterday. Please ask your daughter about this if she does not mention it to you. Online commitment forms for both job shadow and college visits are due Friday, February 7. Verification forms are due Tuesday, March 4.

MISSION WEEK PERMISSION SLIPS FOR FRESHMEN: Freshman students learned about their Mission Week field trip experience on Monday, February 3. As part of this experience, students will travel with their homeroom, homeroom teachers, and several senior leaders to areas around Louisville that address various Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy (non-violence, racism, earth, women, immigration). They will receive permission slips starting Monday to bring home for your signature. Students began turning in this permission slip, along with $20, to the tables at lunch on Tuesday, February 4. All permission slips need to be returned by Wednesday, February 19. Please ask your daughter about this if she does not mention it to you.
