May 24, 2024

This is our final Rocket Report for the 2023-2024 school year as summer vacation begins after exams today for our students. Our school office will be open during the summer months Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. starting Tuesday, May 28, and ending Friday, August 2.
All families enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year will receive a back-to-school email in mid to late July with information about the start of school. Please check with the school office if you do not receive the email as there will be important information to complete for the beginning of the school year.
We are grateful for another successful year where our community was sure to take “every chance we get” in so many ways! Thank you for your support and for sharing your daughter with us. We hope that you and your family enjoy a fun-filled, healthy, and safe summer!

The Big Three Awards
At the Senior Honors Assembly, there are three very special awards given to Seniors by the community of Assumption. Congratulations to the following young women for their excellence! Erin Hynes, who received the Assumption Alumnae Award for best all-around graduate
Chloe Smith, who received the Rocket Spirit Award for exhibiting the most school spirit and consistently setting a good example
Julia Schmitt, who received the Catherine McAuley Christian Leadership Award, which is the highest honor awarded to a graduate of Assumption! Julia consistently demonstrates her commitment to faith, compassion, integrity, and excellence. She is a servant leader who embraces and honors the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy and embodies Mercy values and charism.

MAKE-UP EXAMS: Makeup exams will be given on Tuesday, May 28 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 204; students need to bring their doctor’s notes in advance or bring them with them on May 28 to be eligible to take a makeup exam.

UNIFORM/SPIRIT WEAR DONATIONS: The guidance and counseling department is now accepting uniform/spirit wear donations. Do you have any extra uniform pieces or spirit wear around your house? The counseling office uses the donated uniforms for three purposes. The Rocket Parent Network sells donated uniform pieces to raise money for their scholarships. The counselors also use donated uniform pieces to help students in financial need and for whom the replacement of a uniform piece would be cost prohibitive. We also have a lending closet in the counseling office for students who happen to forget a skirt or uniform piece. We are able to help these students by lending them a uniform item for a day. Donated uniforms may be dropped off in the counseling office anytime. You may want to mark your calendar now for our upcoming Rocket Parent Network Annual Used Uniform Sale, which will be held on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in the cafeteria. No item exceeds $10. Come by and shop the bargains!
SHAHEEN’S JUNE UNIFORM SALE: Shaheen’s will be having their annual Summer Uniform Sale June 1-30. You are invited to buy uniforms early and receive a 10% off storewide discount. Please consider taking advantage of this special opportunity, especially if your daughter has grown over the past year. Please look at the length of her skirt in particular as many girls’ skirt lengths have crept up to unacceptable lengths. Rising sophomores will need ACTS pants for next year, and some of your daughters may have decided that they’d like a uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt after all. The Summer Uniform Sale would be a great time to make these purchases. A neat and appropriate uniform teaches our students to have pride in their own appearance as well as in their school. We ask for your help by investing in your daughter’s uniform for 2024-2025 school year. Click here for a flyer with the details about Shaheen’s best sale of the year.
WORK STUDY PROGRAM: For the 2024-2025 school year, Assumption will continue offering our Work Study program for interested students. Work Study involves assisting our facility and custodial teams with cleaning classrooms after school. Students receive a $400 tuition credit for every 40 hours worked, as well as a $20 campus store credit. An application to apply for the next school year will be included with our summer mailing sent at the end of July. All students are welcome to apply!
HP LAPTOP PICK-UP FOR CURRENT FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, AND JUNIORS: In class meetings these past two weeks, the process for turning in HP Elite Laptops so they can be refreshed over the summer was explained to students. Students may pick up their laptops for the 2024-2025 school year in the Boeckmann Lab from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following days: Rising seniors only – July 15 – August 3; Rising sophomores and juniors–July 22 – August 3 (Monday-Thursday).
FINAL REPORT CARDS: Final report cards for the 2023-2024 school year will be emailed no later than June 3.
PURCHASING BOOKS FOR 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR: Assumption’s MBS Direct bookstore will open on July 8, and our free shipping week will be July 8-14, 2024. When you log onto MBSDirect.net with your daughter’s student ID number, it will link to her list of books. Book titles and ISBN numbers will be available for purchase through MBS. You are welcome to use this information to shop via other sources (ex. Amazon) if you would prefer. Please pay special attention to any “student message” listed at the top of the page regarding digital versions of texts. Most courses allow for student choice. Also, all art fee courses must be paid via MBS Direct. Please note: MBS Direct is the official supplier of textbooks for AHS students and works closely with the school to have all textbooks to the students by the start of school. If you choose to order books from a different online source, this needs to be done early enough to make sure the student has her books prior to the start of school; a student will not be excused from having a textbook if it was ordered late or from a vendor other than MBS Direct.
SUMMER READING: Students received their summer reading requirements in English classes this week. These requirements can also be found on the website under “Current Parents” and through this link: SUMMER READING 2024. Summer reading is an important component of the English curriculum, and the books read in the summer will be incorporated into the first unit of study in your daughter’s English class next school year. PLEASE NOTE: If a student decides to make any schedule changes over the summer that result in a change in academic level for English, she is required to read the book assigned for that level, which may be a different book and/or a different assignment. She will need to find the correct summer reading assignment on the website.
ROCKET NIGHT AT THE BATS: The Assumption Alumnae Association invites you to start your summer off right with our Rocket Night at the Bats on June 1! All are welcome to join AHS for a night of Rocket pride, family fun, and Bats baseball at Louisville Slugger Field. The game starts at 6:35 p.m. but get there early to get some AHS swag as well as food and drink specials. Click here to get your ticket. For more info, contact ABBY MARTIN.

GRADUATION PHOTO REMINDER: A formal picture was taken of each senior with her diploma and a rose by BIG Photo at graduation. Pictures will be able to be viewed and purchased at shop.studioillumination.com. Packages start as low as $22 and will be mailed home directly. A QR code information card will be available at the graduation event in the lobby of Knights Hall at Bellarmine. Please call BIG Photo at (502) 585-3103 should you have any questions.
SENIOR TRANSCRIPTS: Final transcripts will be sent to your daughter’s college or university (and NCAA, if applicable) in mid-June. This is the university that she indicated on her final transcript request form she completed earlier this week during graduation practice. She may start to receive reminders from her university. She does not have to contact the guidance office regarding those reminders unless she needs to change the university she listed on her final transcript form. If a senior has earned college credit through a DC class, instructions for requesting those transcripts have been emailed to the senior.

SENIOR PORTRAITS: The junior class has received information regarding an exciting new event we will host on campus prior to the beginning of next year called Senior Media Day with M. Haas Photography. This will allow seniors to come to campus to get their official senior drape photo taken. Next week, you will receive an email with the details of Senior Media Day, which will include a link to sign up for a time slot. Please save date for Wednesday, July 31 so your daughter can plan to be here. If you can’t make that day, there will be alternative options for getting her senior portrait taken prior to school starting in August.
COLLEGE ADVISING DATES FOR JUNIORS: Leigh Jackson and Kimberly Habich, college counselors, will be available on several dates at the end of May and into the month of June to meet with current juniors (our rising seniors) and their parents to discuss the college application process. Mrs. Jackson, who works with the first part of the alphabet (A-L) will be available on Tuesday, May 28-Thursday, June 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Habich, who works with the latter part of the alphabet (L-Z), will be available on Tuesday, May 28 – Tuesday, June 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. Please contact via email to set up an appointment – LEIGH JACKSON or KIMBERLY HABICH.

JUNIOR ACTS SERVICE HOURS: In their theology classes, all sophomores learned the details about their junior ACTS requirement. They are encouraged to begin this over the summer. Before they begin serving, they will need to complete an online commitment form that requires a guardian’s signature. Please see the syllabus for all the details. CLASS OF 2025 JUNIOR ACTS SYLLABUS If you have any questions, please reach out to the service-learning director, Katie Culver (katie.culver@ahsrockets.org)

PHYSICALS: A reminder to all parents of Assumption athletes: It is required by the KHSAA that your daughter have a current physical on file with the athletic office before she may participate in tryouts or practice of any kind. This physical must be submitted on the KHSAA physical form. Fall sports tryouts begin July 15. Please call and make a doctor’s appointment today with your daughter’s primary care physician. There are no group physicals offered here at school.
