May 17, 2024

Congratulations to our 2024 graduates who have earned over $31 million in scholarships in addition to over $1.5 million over four years in the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship program. The seniors also completed 4,382 hours of service to the community during their senior year and 18,500 total hours of service during their high school career. Additionally, they earned 3,403 college credit hours. We are proud of the Class of 2024 and look forward to their graduation tomorrow!
Thank you, senior parents, for sharing your daughters with us these past four years. We can’t wait to celebrate the Class of 2024 with you next week!

Baccalaureate Mass
Our Baccalaureate Mass was our second celebration to honor our Class of 2024! Our community gathered on Thursday evening at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church to pray in gratitude for the gift that this class has been to our school and to pray for our students as they prepare to take their talents into the world. Julia Schmitt ’24 was chosen by her classmates to reflect upon the journey that is Assumption High School. She created the “Class of 2024 Beatitudes” to align with the gospel reading during mass. Here are a few of her beatitudes: “Blessed are those who have worked hard, for they will achieve great things,” “Blessed are those who have struggled, for they will learn perseverance,” and “Blessed are those who have grown in their faith, for this is a lifelong journey.” Thank you, Julia, for a truly wonderful reflection that the Class of 2024 and the entire community of Assumption will always remember and try to live by. We want to thank Fr. Dustin Hungerford for the years he has dedicated to Assumption by guiding us in our faith as our chaplain. He is departing, as he mentioned, alongside this class from Assumption. We wish him luck in all of his endeavors and are so grateful for the time we’ve had together!

These intentions are then lifted in prayer all together during Five-Minute Prayer in the chapel on Wednesdays and weekly on the PA during morning prayer. If you would like to submit an intention, you can do so here. They will remain there for about two weeks, but feel free to post the same intention again later if needed. Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

SCHEDULES FOR 2024-2025: Your daughter received her list of classes for the 2024 – 2025 school year during LEAD & Learn homeroom time this week. Please ask her to share this list with you. If she is interested in changing her classes, please have her bring a signed note from a parent with this request to her dean during her study or after school May 20-24. Our liaison from UL will be here to get all students registered at UL for the Fall 2024 semester.
ARGENTINA EXCHANGE PROGRAM: Our Argentina Exchange Program is ready to kick off the 2024-2025 session! Since 2007, Assumption has participated in the Mercy Ambassadors Program with Colegio Santa Ethnea, a school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy in Bella Vista, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The program is a one-to-one exchange with students from Argentina living and attending school with selected Assumption students for four weeks in late January/February; in June, the AHS students spend four weeks in Argentina where they will live and attend school with the students they hosted earlier in the year. The program is open to rising sophomores and juniors who have completed Spanish II and will be taking Spanish III or IV next school year. We will have 2 information meetings next week: Tuesday May 21st from 8:30to 9am or 12:20- 1:00pm both in room 318. Students who want to apply for the program must attend one of the meetings, and parents are welcome. Students will receive applications at the meeting and they are due by Friday May 31. The Argentina Exchange Program provides a truly life-altering experience not only for the students who participate but for their whole families. If your daughter is eligible to apply for the program, please encourage her to consider applying. If you have questions please contact Katie Culver who directs the program.
UNIFORM/SPIRIT WEAR DONATIONS: The guidance and counseling department is now accepting uniform/spirit wear donations. Do you have any extra uniform pieces or spirit wear around your house? The counseling office uses the donated uniforms for three purposes. The Rocket Parent Network sells donated uniform pieces to raise money for their scholarships. The counselors also use donated uniform pieces to help students in financial need and for whom the replacement of a uniform piece would be cost prohibitive. We also have a lending closet in the counseling office for students who happen to forget a skirt or uniform piece. We are able to help these students by lending them a uniform item for a day. Donated uniforms may be dropped off in the counseling office anytime. You may want to mark your calendar now for our upcoming Rocket Parent Network Annual Used Uniform Sale, which will be held on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in the cafeteria. No item exceeds $10. Come by and shop the bargains!
SHAHEEN’S JUNE UNIFORM SALE: Shaheen’s will be having their annual Summer Uniform Sale June 1-June 30. You are invited to buy uniforms early and receive a 10% off storewide discount. Please consider taking advantage of this special opportunity, especially if your daughter has grown over the past year. Please look at the length of her skirt in particular as many girls’ skirt lengths have crept up to unacceptable lengths. Rising sophomores will need ACTS pants for next year, and some of your daughters may have decided that they’d like a uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt after all. The Summer Uniform Sale would be a great time to make these purchases. A neat and appropriate uniform teaches our students to have pride in their own appearance as well as in their school. We ask for your help by investing in your daughter’s uniform for 2024-2025 school year. Click here for a flier with the details about Shaheen’s best sale of the year.
BOOK BUYBACKS: We will conduct our book buybacks on Friday, May 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. If students will be selling their books back to MBS Direct, they will need to go to their website after May 13, get a quote, and print out two (2) copies of the packing slip (three copies if you have more than six books). To take full advantage of the guaranteed buyback, students will need to log into the account used to purchase books when accessing book buyback online quotes. If you need assistance, please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE. Please see this flyer for details and instructions.
WORK STUDY PROGRAM: For the 2024-2025 school year, Assumption will continue offering our Work Study program for interested students. Work Study involves assisting our facility and custodial teams with cleaning classrooms after school. Students receive a $400 tuition credit for every 40 hours worked, as well as a $20 campus store credit. An application to apply for the next school year will be included with our summer mailing sent at the end of July. All students are welcome to apply!
HP LAPTOP INFORMATION FOR CURRENT FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, AND JUNIORS: In class meetings these past two weeks, the process for turning in HP Elite Laptops so they can be refreshed over the summer was explained to students. The HP laptops will be collected on the same day as our book buybacks – Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students may pick up their laptops for the 2024-2025 school year in the Boeckmann Lab from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following days: Rising seniors only – July 15 – August 3; Rising sophomores and juniors–July 22 – August 3 (Monday-Thursday).
FINAL REPORT CARDS: Final report cards for the 2023-2024 school year will be emailed no later than June 3.
SUMMER READING: Students received their summer reading requirements in English classes this week. These requirements can also be found on the website under “Current Parents” and through this link: SUMMER READING 2024. Summer reading is an important component of the English curriculum, and the books read in the summer will be incorporated into the first unit of study in your daughter’s English class next school year. PLEASE NOTE: If a student decides to make any schedule changes over the summer that result in a change in academic level for English, she is required to read the book assigned for that level, which may be a different book and/or a different assignment. She will need to find the correct summer reading assignment on the website.

GRADUATION PHOTO REMINDER: A formal picture will be taken of each senior with her diploma and a rose by BIG Photo at graduation. Pictures will be able to be viewed and purchased at shop.studioillumination.com. Packages start as low as $22 and will be mailed home directly. A QR code information card will be available at the graduation event in the lobby of Knights Hall at Bellarmine. Please call BIG Photo at (502) 585-3103 should you have any questions.
SENIOR TRANSCRIPTS: Final transcripts will be sent to your daughter’s college or university (and NCAA, if applicable) in mid-June. This is the university that she indicated on her final transcript request form she completed earlier this week during graduation practice. She may start to receive reminders from her university. She does not have to contact the guidance office regarding those reminders unless she needs to change the university she listed on her final transcript form. If a senior has earned college credit through a DC class, instructions for requesting those transcripts have been emailed to the senior.
SENIOR HONORS CEREMONY: A digital version of the Senior Honors program booklet from the Senior Honors Assembly is now available: 2024 SENIOR HONORS CEREMONY PROGRAM

SENIOR PORTRAITS: Earlier this week, the junior class received information regarding an exciting new event we will host on campus prior to the beginning of next year called Senior Media Day with M. Haas Photography. This will allow seniors to come to campus to get their official senior drape photo taken. Next week, you will receive an email with the details of Senior Media Day, which will include a link to sign up for a time slot. Please save date for Wednesday, July 31 so your daughter can plan to be here. If you can’t make that day, there will be alternative options for getting her senior portrait taken prior to school starting in August.

The Lead4Change teams whose service projects and outstanding submission of all required documents earned grant money for a non-profit agency with whom they partnered.

Congratulations to these 12 students for using their leadership skills to make the world a better place. An email is being sent to rising sophomores and juniors from Mrs. Steutermann this week with information about how to get involved in Lead4Change next school year!
