President, Mary Lang and Principal, Martha Tedesco
This is the last Rocket Report of the semester. On behalf of the faculty and staff, we wish you all a blessed Christmas.
May your celebration of the birth of Jesus this season
Open you to the true joy and lasting peace of Christ.
May what began in a simple manger on that night so long ago
Continue in our hearts every day of the coming year.

Faculty & Staff Angel Tree
Again this year, members of our faculty and staff had the opportunity to adopt residents of Creekside Senior Living right down the street on Bardstown Road. Thank you to the members of our community who shopped and provided Christmas for these 35 residents in Assisted Living and Memory Care and for Katie Culver, our Service Learning Director, who organized and provided the opportunity for us! We truly are surrounded by so many wonderful angels during this Christmas season.

MAKE-UP EXAMS: A doctor’s note is required to make up any missed exam. Makeup exams will be given on Friday, December 22 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 204; students need to bring their doctor’s notes in advance or bring them with them on December 22 to be eligible to take a makeup exam.
CHRISTMAS BREAK: This is the last Rocket Report of the semester. Assumption will be closed for Christmas Break from December 22 – January 7. Classes will resume on Monday, January 8. The next Rocket Report will be sent on Friday, January 12.
CALENDAR CHANGE TO SECOND SEMESTER: We have made a change to our school calendar: Wednesday, February 14, will be an 8:15 schedule due to our Ash Wednesday Prayer Service. A revised version of our one-page calendar is available here: ONE PAGE AHS CALENDAR

PARENT PRAYER: Parent Prayer will resume its weekly schedule on Tuesday, January 9 at 8:30 a.m. in the AHS chapel. We will be praying for Kingstown Family freshmen and sophomores. All are welcome!
PRAYER INTENTIONS: The Community of Assumption knows the power of prayer! All AHS parents and alumnae are invited to submit prayer intentions online. These intentions are then lifted in prayer all together during Five-Minute Prayer in the chapel on Wednesdays and weekly on the PA during morning prayer. If you would like to submit an intention, you can do so here. They will remain there for about two weeks, but feel free to post the same intention again later if needed. Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

We are looking forward to another exciting semester of LEAD & Learn time for our students. As a reminder, our LEAD & Learn time takes place in the middle of the day typically from 11:10-11:35. This time provides an opportunity for class meetings, advising, announcements, leadership development, guidance curriculum, and so much more. Counselors send information out to students about the plans for LEAD & Learn time in their weekly charts. Each counselor prepares a weekly chart listing the daily schedule and plans for LEAD & Learn time. If your daughter ever has a question about the schedule or where to go for LEAD & Learn time, please remind her to check her counselor’s weekly schedule.
When we return from break, students will report directly to homeroom on Monday for a special AM LEAD & Learn time where they will receive their new schedules for the semester and reconnect with their homerooms after the break. Additionally, the focus of LEAD & Learn times throughout this week will be on setting intentions for the new year 2024. Students will have time in homeroom to look ahead to the new year and consider how they will take every chance they get in 2024!

SECOND SEMESTER SCHEDULES: Hard copies of the second semester schedules will be given to students during homeroom on Monday, January 8. Students will have homeroom scheduled first on this day. Students will need to report to homeroom FIRST when they return to school. Students have already had the opportunity to meet with their deans with any scheduling questions. Drop/Add for second semester elective courses ends on Wednesday, January 17. Any elective schedule change request must be accompanied by a note from a parent and any necessary teacher signatures and recommendations.
SECOND SEMESTER BOOKS: Christmas break is a good time to check and make sure students have all of their second semester books. Please go to https://bnck-12.com/ahsrockets to review this list.
FIRST SEMESTER GRADE REPORTS: First semester grade reports will be emailed to parents no later than Monday, January 8.
WORK IT WEDNESDAY – JANUARY SCHEDULE: There will be NO WIW on January 10, the first week when students return from break. However, the Achievement Center will be hosting three Work It Wednesdays in January on the 17, 24, and 31. Students are invited to come to the Media Center from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to receive extra support in their classes from peer tutors, study groups, or the AC teachers. We ask students to please RSVP in advance.
UNIFORM UPKEEP: We have asked the students to take care of any uniform issues over Christmas break. Skirts have started to get shorter and hems are falling. Also, please make sure your daughter has the official AHS uniform sweater or quarter-zip sweatshirt to wear over her uniform shirt in these colder months. Additionally, black leggings or tights are allowed to be worn, so those might make great Christmas gifts for your daughter. Please assist your daughter in evaluating her current uniform status and take care of any uniform upkeep so that we can start off second semester as well as we did first semester. We sincerely appreciate your help and cooperation!
ATTENDANCE: Please be sure to contact the school if your daughter will be absent or needs to arrive to school late. Absences must be reported to the attendance office so that we are informed of the safety and well-being of your child. Please call the school or email attendance@ahsrockets.org to report absences or planned late arrivals. In addition, planned absences must be reported to the attendance office at least one week prior to the absence. Request for approval of planned absences can be submitted to attendance@ahsrockets.org. Please note that absences prior to and right after holidays/breaks require a doctor’s note to be excused. Special circumstances can be communicated in email to Kamaria Wesley, Dean of Students, at Kamaria.Wesley@ahsrockets.org.

END-OF-YEAR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN: There’s only a couple weeks left of our end-of-year fundraising campaign! Our goal is to reach 900 donors by December 31, representing the number of students we educate, and the number of reasons to give, as every student is a reason to support AHS. We humbly ask for your help to share this message with others and make a donation if you’re able. Donations, no matter the size, will make an impact on every one of our students! More info, contact ABBY MARTIN.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID PRESENTATION: The recording from last week’s college financial aid presentation can be found here. For families that plan to complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), it is scheduled to be available on December 31. Please wait 2-3 weeks before completing it to ensure the system is running smoothly. In the meantime, students and parents should complete the Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. Students and parents are encouraged to create an FSA ID at least two weeks prior to completing the FAFSA. To create an FSA ID, the individual will need his/her Social Security number and a mobile phone number and/or email address. Students should not use their Assumption email for this process. KHEAA, our state agency, has created tools to assist students and parents with the FSA ID and the FAFSA.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to college counselors Kim Habich and Leigh Jackson.

ACTS PANTS REMINDER: This is a reminder that all sophomores will need uniform pants in order to participate in ACTS next semester. The first ACTS service day is Wednesday, January 17. They are black pants with an embroidered “A” and can be purchased at Shaheen’s. If your student does not have hers yet, please be sure to take care of this over Christmas break. If you have any questions, please reach out to katie.culver@ahsrockets.org.
