This Advent, Campus Ministry’s theme is Random Acts of Kindness and Epic Acts of Service. Each day of Advent students receive a reflection in their inbox. Each email has a Bible passage, a short reflection, a question or two to consider, and often some bonus material like a song to listen to. Additionally, they are invited to share any random acts of kindness they have seen or done as well as any service they have done beyond class requirements. Each of these random acts of kindness and epic acts of service are represented by pieces of hay that we use to fill our Christmas manager to prepare a place for Jesus.
Here is today’s reflection if you would like to join us in taking a few moments to prepare your heart for Christmas:
This week our Advent reflections will be focused on PEACE. We are going to concentrate on the peace we receive from the good news of Jesus coming, which is so much deeper than the temporary happiness that worldly things offer.
Bible verse: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
Reflection: Today we wrap up our reflections on peace before we move into joy next week. Hopefully you have had time to think more about the peace this season can bring. Maybe though, you have been searching but have had trouble finding it. Consider for a moment where you seeking peace from? As the verse above says, the peace we get from this world, isn’t like the peace we get from Jesus. It’s not always bad, but the peace the world offers is fast and fleeting. It’s just moments of respite and escape. Whereas the peace we get from Jesus is deep in our hearts, lasting, and constant. It’s there waiting for us. He is there waiting for us to invite him into our heart. He won’t make all our stressful situations go away- Christmas preparations, mid- term exams, our to-do lists- but he will offer us peace through it all.
Question: Can you take some time today to invite Jesus into your heart so that you can feel the peace he brings?
Prayer: Dear God, I know that true peace only comes from you, but still I seek to find it in other places. Show me Lord, what I need to do to feel the peace that only you can bring. Be with us all at this stressful time of year and help us to know that if we ask you to be with us, you will be. Amen.
BONUS! If you need a peaceful moment this weekend, here is a song for you to be still, quiet, and enjoy:

Fine & Performing Arts Week
This week we were so excited to be able to celebrate many of our Fine and Performing Art students who cultivated their semester by showcasing their talents. We enjoyed performances during the Intro to Theater Showcase, Art Show, Winter Choral Concert which included our Bell Choir, Glee Club, and Advanced Instrumental Ensemble, and the Humanities II Extravaganza. Congratulations to the many students who were able to share their incredible talents with the community.

Also, you may wish to consider adding the intentions you find there to your own personal prayer!

STUDY GROUP OPPORTUNITIES DURING EXAM WEEK: Students have been invited by the Achievement Center teachers to form study groups during exam week. Drop/Add for second semester elective courses ends on Wednesday, January 17. Any elective schedule change request must be accompanied by a note from a parent and any necessary teacher signatures and recommendations.
SECOND SEMESTER BOOKS: Christmas break is a good time to check and make sure students have all of their second semester books. Please go to https://bnck-12.com/ahsrockets to review this list.
FIRST SEMESTER GRADE REPORTS: First semester grade reports will be emailed to parents no later than Monday, January 8.
UNIFORM UPKEEP: We have asked the students to take care of any uniform issues over Christmas break. Skirts have started to get shorter and hems are falling. Also, please make sure your daughter has the official AHS uniform sweater or quarter-zip sweatshirt to wear over her uniform shirt in these colder months. Additionally, black leggings or tights are allowed to be worn, so those might make great Christmas gifts for your daughter. Please assist your daughter in evaluating her current uniform status and take care of any uniform upkeep so that we can start off second semester as well as we did first semester. We sincerely appreciate your help and cooperation!
ATTENDANCE: Please be sure to contact the school if your daughter will be absent or needs to arrive to school late. Absences must be reported to the attendance office so that we are informed of the safety and well-being of your child. Please call the school or email attendance@ahsrockets.org to report absences or planned late arrivals. In addition, planned absences must be reported to the attendance office at least one week prior to the absence. Request for approval of planned absences can be submitted to attendance@ahsrockets.org. Please note that absences prior to and right after holidays/breaks require a doctor’s note to be excused. Special circumstances can be communicated in email to Kamaria Wesley, Dean of Students, at Kamaria.Wesley@ahsrockets.org.
DRIVING PERMIT TEST FORM: Kentucky requires that your daughter obtains a School Compliance Form from her high school for her to take the driving permit test. If your daughter is planning to take her permit test over the Christmas break and she has not obtained this form, please contact the school before Thursday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. The office will not open again until Monday, January 8 at 7:00 a.m., so please plan ahead to obtain this form to ensure your daughter can take her test at her scheduled time. Per DMV requirements, this form cannot be emailed, scanned or faxed; therefore, the original copy will need to be mailed or picked up at school. Please call 502-458-9551, option ”0” if you need further assistance regarding this issue before Friday, December 16.

For families that plan to complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), it is scheduled to be available on December 31. Please wait 2-3 weeks before completing it to ensure the system is running smoothly. In the meantime, students and parents should complete the Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. Students and parents are encouraged to create an FSA ID at least two weeks prior to completing the FAFSA. To create an FSA ID, the individual will need his/her Social Security number and a mobile phone number and/or email address. Students should not use their Assumption email for this process.
