May 25, 2023

This is our final Rocket Report for the 2022-2023 school year as summer vacation begins after exams today for our students. Our school office will be open during the summer months Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. starting Tuesday, May 31, and ending Friday, July 29. Please note that our main entrance will be closed this summer due to floor work in that area of the building. You can access the school and main office via the Theatre Entrance on Tyler Lane closest to Bardstown Rd. Also, know that you can reach the main office during those times at 502-458-9551. We will continue to give updates for the upcoming school year as usual during the summer through Special Messages via email.
All families enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year will receive a back-to-school email in mid to late July with information about the start of school. Please check with the school office if you do not receive the email as there will be important information to complete for the beginning of the school year.
We are grateful for another successful year where our community continued to create, live, and experience #beautifulmoments in so many ways! Thank you for your support and for sharing your daughter with us. We hope that you and your family enjoy a fun-filled, healthy, and safe summer!

Yesterday, faculty and staff came together in prayer, food, and fun for the end of the year celebration! With your donations, every faculty and staff member walked away a winner! So on behalf of all of the faculty and staff, THANK YOU to those that donated which made this end of the year a joyful one!!
The APO board and class representatives would like to thank all of our terrific parents who have graciously shared their time, talents, and treasures to make the events we hosted not only fun but memorable. Without your help, we could not have had such great and successful events as the AHS Walk/Rocket Raffle, Rocket Spectacular 2023, the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon, and many more. Without your help and support, we would not have been able to make the events happen! We are looking forward to a just as exciting 2023-2024!

MAKE-UP EXAMS: Makeup exams will be given on Friday, May 26, at 9:00 a.m. in Room 204. Students must have a doctor’s note to make up any exam. Students need to bring their doctor’s notes in advance or bring them with them on May 26 to be eligible to take a makeup exam.

DRIVER’S PERMIT SCHOOL FORM: If your daughter will be turning 16 this summer or has not taken her driver’s permit test but is planning to, please note that the state requires a school compliance form be completed by Assumption in order to take the test. The form has to be an original copy; it cannot be faxed, emailed, or scanned. If you need this form during the summer, please have your daughter call the main office. If given enough notice, we will be able to mail it to you, or your daughter can stop by school to pick it up.
CARPOOL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: We encourage carpooling as one of the many ways that we build community, respect the environment, and try to be good neighbors by reducing the amount of school-related traffic on Bardstown Road. Parents of incoming freshmen and rising sophomores should have received an email from CarpoolToSchool.com in early May inviting them to participate (check your junk folder if you don’t see it in your Inbox). Many of our older students who will be driving to school next year have set up carpools on CTS already and may be able to help with your daughter’s transportation to/from school next year. Parents may also set up carpools in CTS and work together to get their girls to and from school. Parents of rising juniors and seniors who are interested in using this service (instead of having their daughters do it themselves) may log on to CarpoolToSchool and create a new account or access an already existing account; just “request a new password” if you don’t remember what you set up previously. Parents who have general questions about CarpoolToSchool may contact Tatum Park in the main office; those needing technical help with the CarpoolToSchool website are encouraged to use the LiveChat feature on the CTS website (Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.) or contact Mrs. Park for assistance.
PARKING FOR JUNIORS AND SENIORS FOR NEXT YEAR: Our rising juniors and seniors were given information about applying for parking spaces for next year shortly after spring break. Here’s the basic information to help keep you in the parking loop as a parent: Students need to have their driver’s license (not just a permit) by August 10 to apply for a parking space before school starts and begin driving to school on the first day of the new school year; those who won’t have licenses by August 10 but will have them by Labor Day may apply for a space now, but it won’t be assigned until after school starts and they get their licenses. Juniors and seniors who won’t be ready to start driving to school until after Labor Day will just come to the main office to request a parking space whenever they are ready. Because we believe that if the girls are mature and responsible enough to drive to school, they should be mature and responsible enough to listen to announcements, read email, submit their own parking requests online, and work with school personnel to resolve any difficulties they have related to applying for parking, we will work only with students (not parents) on parking issues. That said, to help parents of rising juniors and seniors encourage their daughters in taking care of parking business themselves, here are some key dates the girls will need to keep in mind:
- Monday, July 24, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for submitting a parking request for space assignment before school starts
- Monday, July 24, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline for having passengers set up in CarpoolToSchool.com (the number of other AHS students in the carpool on this date will determine the priority for assigning parking).
If your daughter wants to drive to school next year, please encourage her to consider giving a ride to another student to/from school, practice, etc. It’s good in many important ways (some are listed in the previous item), and, as has been the case for at least 15 years, priority in assigning parking will be given to students with carpools and will not be based on seniority.
ARGENTINA EXCHANGE PROGRAM FOR 2023-2024: Rising sophomores and juniors who took Spanish II, III, or IV THIS year and will be taking Spanish again next year are eligible to apply to participate in next year’s Mercy Ambassadors Argentina Exchange Program. If selected, they would host a student from the Mercy school in Argentina during February and would then spend the month of June with that student in Argentina. If your daughter attended one of the information sessions about the program but didn’t invite you to come with her and you would like more information about the program, please contact program director Cindi Baughman. Applications were distributed only to students who attended an information meeting and are due by Wednesday, May 31. If your daughter regrets not attending a meeting but is qualified and interested in applying for the exchange program, she may contact Mrs. Baughman for more information and an application—she would need to do this quickly, though, because the Wednesday, May 31 application deadline would still need to be met.
UNIFORM/SPIRIT WEAR DONATIONS: The Guidance and Counseling Department is now accepting uniform/spirit wear donations. Do you have any extra uniform pieces or spirit wear around your house? The Counseling Office uses the donated uniforms for three purposes. The Rocket Parent Network sells donated uniform pieces to raise money for their scholarships. The counselors also use donated uniform pieces to help students in financial need and for whom the replacement of a uniform piece would be cost prohibitive. We also have a lending closet in the Counseling Office for students who happen to forget a skirt or uniform piece. We are able to help these students out by lending them a uniform item for a day. Donated uniforms may be dropped off in the Counseling Office anytime. You may want to mark your calendar now for our upcoming Rocket Parent Network Annual Used Uniform Sale which will be held on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the gym. Come by and shop the bargains!
SHAHEEN’S JUNE UNIFORM SALE: Shaheen’s will be having a special Uniform Sale June 1-July 5. You are invited to buy uniforms early and receive a 10% off storewide discount. Please consider taking advantage of this special opportunity, especially if your daughter has grown over the past year. Please look at the length of her skirt in particular as many girls’ skirt lengths have crept up to unacceptable lengths. Rising sophomores will need ACTS pants for next year, and some of your daughters may have decided that they’d like a uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt after all. The June Uniform Sale would be a great time to make these purchases. As a neat and appropriate uniform teaches our students to have pride in their own appearance as well as in their school, we ask for your help by investing in your daughter’s uniform for 2023-2024 school year. Click here for a flier with the details about Shaheen’s best sale of the year.
HP LAPTOP INFORMATION FOR CURRENT FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, AND JUNIORS: In class meetings these past two weeks, the process for turning in HP Elite Laptops so they can be refreshed over the summer was explained to students. The HP laptops will be collected on the same day and time as our book buybacks – Thursday, May 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students may pick up their laptops for the 2023-2024 school year in the Boeckmann Lab from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following days: Rising seniors only – July 17 – August 3; Rising sophomores and juniors–July 24 – August 3 (Monday-Thursday).
FINAL REPORT CARDS: Final report cards for the 2022-2023 school year will be emailed no later than June 2.
PURCHASING BOOKS FOR 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR: Assumption’s MBS Direct bookstore will open on July 4, and our free shipping week will be July 3-9, 2023. When you log onto MBSDirect.net with your daughter’s student ID number, it will link to her list of books. Book titles and ISBN numbers will be available for purchase through MBS. You are welcome to use this information to shop via other sources (ex. Amazon) if you would prefer. Please pay special attention to any “student message” listed at the top of the page regarding digital versions of texts. Most courses allow for student choice. Also, all art fee courses must be paid via MBS Direct. Please note: MBS Direct is the official supplier of textbooks for AHS students and works closely with the school to have all textbooks to the students by the start of school. If you choose to order books from a different online source, this needs to be done early enough to make sure the student has her books prior to the start of school; a student will not be excused from having a textbook if it was ordered late or from a vendor other than MBS Direct.
SUMMER READING: Students received their summer reading requirements in English classes this week. These requirements can also be found on the website under “Current Parents” and through this link: SUMMER READING 2023. Summer reading is an important component of the English curriculum, and the books read in the summer will be incorporated into the first unit of study in your daughter’s English class next school year. PLEASE NOTE: If a student decides to make any schedule changes over the summer that result in a change in academic level for English, she is required to read the book assigned for that level, which may be a different book and/or a different assignment. She will need to find the correct summer reading assignment on the website.
ACT TEST PREP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: We are offering our students the opportunity to partner with TorchPrep, an innovative test training program that cracks the code on improving ACT scores. TorchPrep has continually yielded outstanding ACT scores for our students. Last year, Assumption students who participated in TorchPrep saw an average score increase of 2.3 points. All courses include 30 hours of direct training, four full-length simulated tests, TorchPrep training manual, customized study plan, and guaranteed results. The training program will take place at Assumption June 5-8 from 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Early registration deadline is May 29. More information about programs, registration, and fees can be found at www.torchprep.com.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer can be found on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2023. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like STEM or Creative Arts/Design or General Summer Pre-College Programs, etc. Many applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.
ROCKET NIGHT AT THE BATS: The Assumption Alumnae Association invites you to start your summer off right with our Rocket Night at the Bats on June 1! All are welcome to join AHS for a night of Rocket pride, family fun, and Bats baseball at Louisville Slugger Field. The game starts at 6:35 p.m. but get there early to get some AHS swag as well as food and drink specials. Click here to get your ticket. For more info, contact ABBY MARTIN.

SENIOR TRANSCRIPTS: Senior parents, final transcripts will be sent to your daughter’s college or university (and NCAA, if applicable) in mid-June. This is the university that she indicated on her final transcript request form she completed earlier this week during graduation practice. She may start to receive reminders from her university. She does not have to contact the guidance office regarding those reminders unless she needs to change the university she listed on her final transcript form. If a senior has earned college credit through a DC class, instructions for requesting those transcripts have been emailed to the senior.

SENIOR PORTRAITS: Earlier this week, the junior class received information about how to book their senior portrait session at Illumination Studio. They will also receive a mailing from Illumination Studio with all of the information they will need. Here is a link to the information for your review: AHS SENIOR PORTRAIT INFORMATION. Please make sure to read the information so that you can schedule your student’s portrait session before we return to school in August. You are welcome to have your student’s senior photos taken anywhere, but you must have her drape photo (her official senior portrait) taken at Illumination Studio before school begins in August. If you have questions, please contact Illumination Studio at 502-585-3103 or you can email Beth Smith at bsmith@studioillumination.com.
COLLEGE ADVISING DATES FOR JUNIORS: Leigh Jackson and Kimberly Habich, college counselors, will be available on several dates at the end of May and into the month of June to meet with current juniors (our rising seniors) and their parents to discuss the college application process. Mrs. Jackson, who works with the first part of the alphabet (A-L) will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 26-Wednesday, June 7. JUNIOR ACTS SERVICE HOURS: In their theology classes, all sophomores learned the details about their junior ACTS requirement. They are encouraged to begin this over the summer. Before they begin serving, they will need to complete an online commitment form that requires a guardian’s signature. Please see the syllabus for all the details. CLASS OF 2025 JUNIOR ACTS SYLLABUS If you have any questions, please reach out to the service-learning director, Katie Culver (katie.culver@ahsrockets.org)

PHYSICALS: A reminder to all parents of Assumption athletes: It is required by the KHSAA that your daughter have a current physical on file with the athletic office before she may participate in tryouts or practice of any kind. This physical must be submitted on the KHSAA physical form. Fall sports tryouts begin July 15. Please call and make a doctor’s appointment today with your daughter’s primary care physician. There are no group physicals offered here at school.
