President, Mary Lang and Principal, Martha Tedesco
The community of Assumption wishes all of our families a safe spring break and a blessed Easter. May we share together in this prayer for Easter:
Good and gracious God,
We praise you and thank you for the gift of new life in the Risen Jesus.
May we be like the women at the empty tomb and the disciples on the road to Emmaus
who welcome Christ into our homes and hearts even when we are confused or afraid.
Help us to be open to the Paschal Mystery at work in our own lives
so that we may truly be people of the Resurrection.
Amen.

This weekend the Junior Class Beta Club hosted the 20th annual Senior Citizen Prom. This year’s theme was Run for the Roses and they welcomed nearly 150 guests who danced the afternoon away. This annual service project organized by Assumption students provides a free opportunity for senior citizens in the greater Louisville community to dine and dance with one another. Many thanks to the Prime Time Band who provided music for the event!

SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, March 31, since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive, and continue through Monday, April 10 (Easter Monday). School will resume on Tuesday, April 11.

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, April 11, from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Following spring break, we will be praying for the Limerick freshmen. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities. All are welcome!

Last week, our freshmen followed up to their first semester Career Day by continuing to update their interest profile in an online portal called SCOIR. All grade levels watched our most recent student-produced Broadcast Journalism program and also followed up to last week’s prevention program by engaging in a discussion about continuing to make healthy and safe choices. Sophomores closed out their ACTS visits with a special prayer service. Seniors heard from college counselors about important steps to complete before the end of the year.
After Spring Break, our freshman, sophomores, and juniors will hear about leadership opportunities on Tuesday, April 14, during a class meeting. Seniors will continue to work on their collaborative art project. On Thursday, freshmen and seniors will reconnect in homeroom while sophomores and juniors learn more about parking on campus in 2023-24. On Friday, freshmen will enjoy some homeroom time together while sophomores, juniors, and seniors begin preparing for their annual bleacher dance.

ROSE THEATRE COMPANY’S SPRING PLAY: Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth (the butler), Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Clue is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out…WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT!? Performances will be April 22, 27, and 29 at 7 p.m., April 23 and 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at www.showtix.com. You can use this link or go to Showtix and search for “Assumption.” If you or anyone in your party needs assistance with handicap accessibility, please contact Colleen Murphy at colleen.murphy@ahsrockets.org.
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: Assumption is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, April 12. Student donors must be at least 16 years old. The Red Cross provides more information for students at this link: Red Cross Student Guide to Blood Donation.pdf. If a parent of a student is interested in donating at this drive, we do have some open appointment times. Please contact diane.darst@ahsrockets.org for scheduling. Thank you.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer have been UPDATED. You can find these on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2023. SENIORS – MOTHER/DAUGHTER BREAKFAST FOLLOW UP: Thanks to all the senior mothers/mother figures for attending this year’s event with their daughters! It was equal parts fun and tearful and marks the first of many events over the next several weeks to celebrate the Class of 2023. If you would like to purchase photos from the event, you can do so at https://shop.studioillumination.com/assumption/assumption-mother-daughter-breakfast/. You will need to enter a passcode which is AHSMoms2023.
NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES: Beginning April 11, as FLIK works to close out the school year with our graduating class, seniors who have a negative FLIK lunch account will not be able to charge their account until the account is brought positive.
LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2023. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. In order for inclusion in the Senior Honors Booklet, we ask that students submit all of this information no later than Friday, April 14, 2023.
