Guidance and Counseling Program Director, Dawn Deweese
On Thursday, we held our annual Prevention Assembly planned by our Substance Abuse Committee. This year, we continued our educational approach of individualizing our programs by choosing topics that were relevant and grade level appropriate. We hope that you will take time to ask your daughters about what they learned!
We are especially grateful for the following individuals who shared information and led activities to help our students be healthy and informed decision-makers.
- AHS counselor Jennifer Ruckriegel and our student Peer Leaders who taught lessons in freshman homerooms about peer pressure and prevention.
- AHS parent Dr. Scott Cornell who shared the dangers of vaping from a medical perspective with our sophomores.
- AHS parent Sgt. Craig Browning and fellow LMPD officers who shared information about drugs and impaired/distracted driving with our juniors.
- AHS alumna Julia Goodfleisch ‘19 who discussed family addiction and making good choices in college with our seniors.

Last night members of the Assumption community were honored as a part of the Leadership and Hall of Fame Awards held at the Mellwood Art Center. These individuals and families were celebrated because of their commitment and dedication of time, talents, and treasure to Assumption High School. It is quite an honor not only to be nominated by colleagues, friends, and other members of the community but to be chosen as an honoree and inducted into the Leadership and Hall of Fame Awards.
Congratulations to all of the awards winners listed below and a special thanks to all those that came to support them!

NATIONAL ACT FOR JUNIORS: All juniors will be taking a National ACT on Tuesday, March 28. Juniors will not attend any of their classes on this day and will be dismissed at approximately 12:45 p.m. This test is offered at no additional cost to our families and can be used to send to colleges and universities. Please encourage your daughter to continue to complete practice questions this weekend and help her remember to eat a good breakfast, check her calculator battery, and to bring her favorite #2 pencil on Tuesday.
SPRING BREAK: Spring break will begin Friday, March 31, since we met our Rocket Raffle ticket sale incentive, and continue through Monday, April 10 (Easter Monday). School will resume on Tuesday, April 11.

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, March 28, from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Next week, we will be praying for the Tullamore Family juniors and seniors. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities. All are welcome!
HOLY WEEK PRAYER SERVICE: Our Holy Week Pray Service is a portrayal of the Stations of the Cross through music, images, and dramatic movement. It will take place on Thursday, March 30, at 10:15 a.m. in the CAC/gym.

This past week, our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors had an opportunity to complete the registration process by obtaining teacher signatures on their registration printout. Seniors heard about speakers for their upcoming senior events.
Next week, all grades will watch a broadcast journalism news feature on Monday followed by a prevention assembly homeroom discussion. On Tuesday, freshmen will circle back to Career Day and continue filling in their interest inventory on SCOIR. Sophomores will participate in an ACTS Closing Prayer Service on Tuesday during homeroom and seniors will meet as a class to hear more about how they can support the Class of 2024 as they prepare to become seniors and information from the college counselors about important steps to take before the end of senior year.

TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students will be receiving an email in April announcing tuition for the 2023-2024 school year. This year we will continue using Blackbaud Tuition Management (BBTM) for registration and tuition. BBTM will automatically re-enroll your account in March for the 2023-2024 school year. Once that process is complete, you will receive a verification email from BBTM with instructions on how to log in to your 2023-24 account or call them directly to make any changes (payment plan, banking information, etc.) Your registration fee will be included with your July payment. If your daughter will not be returning for the 2023-24 school year, please contact our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER. If you have any questions about your account, please contact TAMMY FINCH.
2023-2024 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES: We collected the signed course selection forms from your daughters this past Tuesday, March 21. If you have not finalized and submitted her course selections, please do ASAP this weekend so we may begin working on our master schedule. If she still has some questions or concerns about courses, have her contact her dean of studies. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, please contact IT Specialist Brent.Miller@ahsrockets.org or Registrar Kathy Fleischer at Kathy.Fleischer@ahsrockets.org. If your daughter does not plan on returning next year, contact Kathy Fleischer for an official withdrawal form.
WORK IT WEDNESDAY: Next week the Achievement Center will be hosting its final Work It Wednesday in March. Mark your calendar now for March 29 from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Students are invited to the Media Center and Achievement Center to receive extra support in their classes from peer tutors, study groups, or the AC teachers. To ensure we are meeting everyone’s needs, we ask students to please RSVP in advance to Mrs. Conway or Ms. Prentice.
CAMPUS STORE UPDATE: The Campus Store at school will be closed from Monday, March – Wednesday, April 12 for some exiting new updates! However, the online store will still be open and orders will be fulfilled except during the week of Spring Break. Once you are notified of your online order being fulfilled, you may be pick it up up in the main office during regular school hours. Thanks for your patience as we make some updates!
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: Assumption is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, April 12. Student donors must be at least 16 years old. Students who are 16 must have parental permission; students 17 and older may give without parental permission. We encourage you to talk with your daughter if she plans to donate and ensure that she understands the importance of eating well and drinking lots of fluids several days prior to donation day. The Red Cross provides more information for students at this link: Red Cross Student Guide to Blood Donation.pdf. If a parent of a student is interested in donating at this drive, we do have some open appointment times. Please contact diane.darst@ahsrockets.org for scheduling. Thank you.
REMINDER – ABSENCES BEFORE/AFTER SPRING BREAK: Please note that Assumption does not grant excused absences for college days on days immediately before or after Spring Break. We also cannot excuse students from school for family trips and/or vacations. If you are planning to take your daughter out of school for the whole day or before 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, whether to incorporate a college visit into or to get a jump start on Spring Break travel, please bear in mind that the absence will be unexcused and she will not be able to receive full credit for anything collected for a grade (including tests) in her classes while she is gone; makeup work that is completed and turned in will receive 50% of the grade earned. If your daughter becomes ill and is unable to attend school on Thursday, March 30, or Tuesday, April 11, she will need to provide a doctor’s note or have authorization from our school nurse for the absence to be excused. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Dean of Students CINDI BAUGHMAN. Full details about our attendance and absence policies and procedures can be found in the STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK.

There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIM HABICH with any questions.

NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES: Beginning April 11, as FLIK works to close out the school year with our graduating class, seniors who have a negative FLIK lunch account will not be able to charge their account until the account is brought positive.
LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2023. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. We ask that students submit all of this information by Monday, March 27, 2023.

DRESS CODE FOR SENIOR PROM: Seniors received information about their Senior Prom at class meetings this week. Senior Prom will be held Friday, May 12, at the Mellwood Art Center from 6-11 p.m. Unlike other Assumption dances, the senior prom is a formal dance, and our dean of students, Cindi Baughman, reviewed information about our dress code for a formal dance with the seniors; she also emailed information about the dress code for the dance to all the seniors. That information is linked here: DANCE DRESS CODE INFORMATION FOR SENIOR PROM. Please take a few minutes to look it over and then to discuss with your daughter so you can help her know what is expected as she is deciding what to wear to the event—as you will see in the information, Mrs. Baughman recommends that they ask parents for advice in following the guidelines to make sure they are dressed appropriately for a Catholic high school dance. We are counting on you to help your daughter evaluate some of the current fashion trends. As the dance gets closer, we will share information about our usual dance policies and expectations along with other specific information about Senior Prom in class meetings and with reminder emails and announcements.
