Executive Director of Advancement, Michelle Farmer
We’re ready to celebrate! Assumption High School’s 42nd annual Rocket Spectacular Benefit Dinner & Auction – Run for the Rockets – will take place tomorrow evening from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event benefit the financial needs of our students. Currently, nearly 40% of our students receive some form of financial assistance to attend Assumption.
This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and even though the event has a sellout crowd this year with more than 500 guests in attendance, you can still support our students and be a part of the excitement! Be sure to visit our Rocket Spectacular page to bid on auction items, purchase raffle tickets, and more: https://one.bidpal.net/rs23/welcome.
Ahead of the event, we would like to recognize and give a huge THANK YOU to our sponsors. Their commitment and dedication to Assumption ensures the success of this year’s Rocket Spectacular!

During this special Catholic Schools Week and always, we thank you for sending your daughters to our Catholic school. At Assumption, we feel blessed to have the opportunity to educate your daughter both academically and spiritually. This morning, members of our Family Council braved the cold to show the parents a little love as they drove through the carpool line. Additionally, we prayed together as a community in your honor:
Mother and Father God, thank you for the gift of our parents. Thank you for their unconditional love, the sacrifices they make for us, the shoulders we cry on when we are in pain, and the encouragement they give us as we pursue our dreams for the future. Please forgive us for the times we have taken them for granted, and care for them in a special way as they continue to make your love present to us through them. We ask this in the name of Jesus, your son. Amen.

COLLEGE WORKSHOP AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND PARENTS: Attention, all sophomore and junior parents and students – please mark your calendars for Thursday, February 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. for a college workshop. This event will be virtual. Parents and students will have the opportunity to choose from breakout sessions on topics such as Mastering the College Application Essay, Helpful Strategies for Standardized Testing, the Governor’s Scholars Program, Purposeful Planning and Course Selection, Navigating the College Visit, and many more. If you have any questions, please contact LEIGH JACKSON or KIMBERLY HABICH, our college counselors.
FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, February 11, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students— freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Tickets may be purchased in advance during lunches on Monday, February 6 – February 10 for $25, or at the door the night of the dance for $30. The dance theme is “A Night in Vegas” and is casino inspired! Guests are invited to dress for the theme, but of course, themed attire is not required. Music will be provided by the band Famous on Friday. Hope to see you there!

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on Tuesday, February 7, from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Next week, we will be praying for the GALWAY Family freshmen and sophomores. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities! All are welcome!

During LEAD & Learn time last week, students viewed a presentation from our Broadcast Journalism class and also learned about our 40 Books Initiative to promote independent reading. Additionally, students learned about our upcoming RTI Week (Rockets Taking Initiative) in which students will have an opportunity to seek extra help in classes, work on projects, and focus on getting caught up academically.
Next week, students will experience their first-ever RTI Week. Please be sure to talk with your daughter about her plans for this week as her plan must be submitted by Monday, February 6 via an online survey. All students worked on planning during Lead and Learn time yesterday. Students invited specifically to attend an academic help session were notified by their teachers this week via email (and a parent/guardian was copied on the email). Students are required to attend these sessions.

REMINDERS AND REQUESTS ABOUT MORNING DROP-OFF AND AFTERNOON PICK-UP – CARPOOL LANE: The parking lot proctors and parents in the carpool lane would like to remind you that drivers need to pull up as far as possible in the carpool lane before stopping, and that once the vehicle has pulled up as far as possible behind the car in front of it and stops, the student is to get out of the car and then walk along the sidewalk to the entrance of her choice. Please do not stop short so your daughter will be close to her preferred entrance. When you stop short, it causes the carpool lane to stop and traffic to back up on Bardstown Road; it also creates a dangerous situation when the student takes what seems like a long time to get herself and her belongings out of the car and those in line behind the stopped vehicle try to go around the vehicle, and block the flow of traffic in the two-way drive which is used by those who need to drive in the opposite direction of the carpool lane to get to their parking spaces.
BETA CLUB INFORMATION FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Qualifying sophomores and juniors will be invited to join Beta Club this month for the 2023-2024 school year. Beta Club is an organization dedicated to honoring academic achievement and encouraging school and community service. Qualifying students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and no more than two demerits on their discipline record. Members are required to attend 75% of scheduled meetings unless they have an excused absence from school. They must complete 20 service hours their junior year and 20 service hours their senior year. Members must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA and may not accumulate more than two demerits (equal to six detentions) throughout their membership. Parents/Guardians of qualifying students will receive an invitation letter by email. Qualifying students will receive an email invitation as well. There is a one-time membership fee of $15 to join. Details for the application process, which includes attending one of two possible discernment meetings and a discipline check, will be included in the invitation emails. *Current junior class Beta Club members will not receive an invitation as they are already members, and their membership will roll over into their senior year as long as they attend the discernment meeting and meet all qualifications at the end of the school year. This was communicated to the students directly at their junior class Beta Club meeting this January.
WORK IT WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE FOR FEBRUARY: The Achievement Center will be hosting one more Work It Wednesday in February. Mark your calendar now for February 8. Students are invited to come to the Media Center from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to receive extra support in their classes from peer tutors, study groups, or the AC teachers. To ensure we are meeting everyone’s needs, we ask students to please RSVP in advance to Mrs. Conway or Ms. Prentice.
REGISTRATION FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR: Even as we continue to work to make this the best possible semester for your daughter, we are also looking toward planning for the success of our returning students next school year. Part of that planning process is registering for class for the 2023-2024 school year. Registration for current students for next school year will take place in March this year. More details will be shared as the time for registration approaches.
HIRING FOR FACILTY/MAINTENANCE TEAM AND CUSTODIAL TEAM: Parents do you know of someone who would be a good fit for Assumption? We are hiring for our Facility/Maintenance and Custodial Teams. Full-time and part-time positions are available. Good starting pay and benefits along with a great work environment. In addition, employees receive a 50% discount off their daughter’s tuition. Please email Michael Clark, Facility Director, at Michael.Clark@ahsrockets.org for more information.
