Michelle Farmer, Executive Director of Advancement
We were excited to welcome back our students, faculty, and staff this week after a restful Christmas Break. As we start our new semester, one event that is on top of everyone’s mind and is less than a month away is our 42nd Annual Rocket Spectacular Benefit Dinner and Auction. This year’s theme is Derby inspired – Run for the Rockets. The event will be held here at Assumption on Saturday, February 4, and always SELLS OUT in advance! All proceeds from the event benefit the financial needs of our students; currently one third of our students receive some form of financial assistance. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and there are many ways for our families to support this effort!
We are still collecting donations for our live and silent auctions. In the past, donors have asked if there are any specific items that were needed, or if they could purchase and donate. For this reason, and to simplify the process, we have created a “WISH LIST” on Amazon https://bit.ly/AHSRS23. We are also looking for experiences to share (such as a beach condo or mountain chalet, etc.); please contact us at 271-2519 if you are interested in donating or have any questions. Most importantly, we would like to invite you to join us for one of the most fun evenings in Louisville (according to past attendees). Each year, more than 450 individuals join us for a night of high energy and great company where you walk away feeling inspired! You can reserve individual tickets or reserve a tableby January 15. Reserve your tickets now before they are gone! Click here to purchase your Rocket Spectacular 2023 tickets! We hope to see you there!

We have had several updates to our athletic facilities including a new state-of-the-art track that was installed at The Green. Our new track is a Plexi-Trac surface which will provide a tremendous upgrade for our athletes that can be found at many universities around the country. We are proud to provide first class facilities which allows our student-athletes to compete and win at the state and national level.

LEARNING DIFFERENCES COLLEGE ACCOMODATIONS PANEL: This Sunday, January 8, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., the Learning Differences Program will host a panel of former students that were part of this program. The students will discuss which college/university they are currently attending and the accommodations being used as well as offered at the post-secondary level. The alumni will discuss various college issues for students with learning differences. This will be a great opportunity for you and your daughter to listen to their personal stories, discuss the challenges/successes of college, and ask alums various questions about their experiences. This meeting will be in the Learning Support Center, so please use the main entrance at the Atrium, and an ambassador will greet you!
UPCOMING HOLIDAY REMINDER: On Monday, January 16, school will be closed for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

PARENT PRAYER: Parent Prayer will resume its weekly schedule on Tuesday, January 10, from 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Next week, we will be praying for the CORK freshman family. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities. All are welcome!

During Lead and Learn time this past week, students worked on first semester academic reflections and goal setting for second semester. On Thursday, all students attended a meeting in the gym hosted by Mrs. Schuhmann and Mrs. Fieldhouse who discussed upcoming advising happening in homeroom. This advising is aimed at academic support, course selection, career exploration, and much more. On Friday, students had a mental health break during homeroom and enjoyed some unstructured time to be with their homeroom family.
Next week, freshmen and sophomores will learn about standardized test scores on Monday and Tuesday. Juniors and seniors will have some leadership education through our LEO program and class meeting time. Freshmen will have an opportunity for leadership education and academic advising on Thursday and Friday. Sophomores will be engaged in various leadership and advising programs next week and in the weeks to come.

FIRST SEMESTER REPORT CARDS: First semester report cards were emailed to parents on Tuesday, January 3. If you believe you have not received your daughter’s report card, please check your junk mail folder as emails from Assumption are sometimes diverted to these folders. If it is not in that folder, please contact our registrar, KATHY FLEISCHER, for assistance.
PreACT, PSAT, and ACT TEST REPORTS: Students will receive paper copies of their PreACT, PSAT, and ACT test reports on Monday, January 9. Students will also have their test booklets returned and will be led through error analysis activities by their math, English, social studies and science teachers.
DROP/ADD DEADLINE: Drop/Add for second semester elective courses ends on Friday, January 13. Any elective schedule change request must be accompanied by a note from a parent.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS) APPLICATIONS: In September, Mrs. Kelly Kirwan sent an email to sophomores and juniors with a PowerPoint that provided basic details about selection and membership into the National Honor Society. On Monday, January 9, all sophomores and juniors will receive an email regarding the NHS application process. If a student is interested in applying, she must meet the following criteria: 1) have at least a 3.70 unweighted cumulative GPA; 2) have no more than one demerit on her discipline record at the time records are checked; 3) show demonstrated involvement in school extracurriculars and activities; 4) show outstanding experience in leadership; and 5) demonstrate documented service hours on MobileServe. Sophomores must show a minimum of 20 hours, and juniors must show a minimum of 40 hours. These hours cannot include sophomore ACTS. If a student meets these initial criteria and wishes to apply, she MUST attend a mandatory meeting which serves as a guide through this selective process. Three different meeting times will be offered. Each meeting will cover what can and cannot be considered for the application and will explain the expected commitment to NHS if a student is selected. NHS is an organization that requires students to be actively involved. Students already inducted and granted membership in NHS do NOT need to attend one of these meetings or re-apply to the organization. The meeting dates are Thursday, January 19, at 7:25 a.m. (media center), Thursday, January 19, at 3:10 p.m. (media center), or Friday, January 20 at 7:25 a.m. (media center). Parents, please ensure that your daughter accommodates her schedule (transportation, work, practices, etc.). Meetings will last about 30 minutes. Applications are due by 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, February 23 (the Thursday before Mission Week). NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DEADLINE! Questions about applying to NHS can be directed to NHS adviser KELLY KIRWAN.
FINANCIAL AID FORM: The financial aid link for the 2023-2024 school year has been added to the school’s website. The due date is January 31, 2023, and the form must be submitted online to FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION LINK. As a reminder, you are required to file every year to receive assistance.
